This movie might not be 30 yet, but what have its stars been up to? Welcome to MsMojo and today we’ll be going over the “13 Going On 30” stars: where are they now?
For this list, we’ll be examining the careers of the actors in the romcom “13 Going On 30” since the film’s release in 2004.
As a young actress, Brittany Curran didn’t make much of an impact in “13 Going On 30,” given that she played an unnamed member of the popular, teenage bully group, “the Six Chicks.” However, as she’s grown up, Curran’s profile has climbed much higher. While she has yet to make a big impact on the silver screen, with her biggest part likely being in “Dear White People,” Curran has done well on television. Following roles on teen sitcoms like “The Suite Life of Zack and Cody,” Curran has received praise for her major parts on “Men of a Certain Age” and “The Magicians.”
In “13 Going On 30,” Sean Marquette played protagonist Jenna Rink’s best friend and eventual love interest, Matt Flamhaff…or at least, his teenage version. While Marquette has grown older, many of his roles have remained youthful, much like his appearance. His movie career hasn’t been very remarkable, with his largest part arguably being in the teen stoner comedy, “High School.” But his most well-known work has also been on TV. You may recognize his voice as that of Mac, from “Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends.” These days though, Marquette is known for playing Johnny Atkins on “The Goldbergs.”
While her role as Jenna’s mother Beverly in “13 Going On 30” may not be the biggest in the film, Kathy Baker’s work outside the movie is far more prolific. The veteran actress has appeared in a huge number of movies and TV, both before and after the film. Her movie credits include titles like “Saving Mr. Banks” and “The Art of Racing in the Rain,” while on the small screen she’s been in TV movies, like “Paterno,” as the title character’s wife. Her most frequent work since 2004 was a recurring part on the TV sitcom, “The Ranch.”
Another one of the nameless Six Chicks, Ashley Benson has made a name for herself following “13 Going On 30.” Benson is perhaps best known for her work in television, starring for several years on shows like “Days of Our Lives,” as well as arguably her most famous part as Hanna Marin on “Pretty Little Liars.” The actress has had a few more big screen roles too, such as in “Spring Breakers,” and musical drama “Her Smell.” Speaking of which, Benson is dating her “Her Smell” co-star, Cara Delevingne.
Okay, this is the last one of the Six Chicks, we promise. But seriously, can you believe how many of them ended up hitting it big? And Brie Larson most of all! Although the actress has had some steady TV work, such as on the acclaimed “United States of Tara,” mostly she’s become a bona fide movie star! From cult hits like “Scott Pilgrim vs. the World,” to critical ones like “Room” (which won her the Academy Award for Best Actress), to massive blockbusters such as “Captain Marvel,” it seems like Brie Larson has done it all and then some, and we can’t wait to see what else her career has in store.
As the teenager Jenna Rink, Christa B. Allen set the stage for Jennifer Garner to play the adult Jenna later in the film. However, this wouldn’t be the last time Allen would play a younger version of one of Garner’s characters, as she did the same in the film “Ghosts of Girlfriends Past” 5 years later. Allen has had many TV guest spots in the years since “13 Going On 30,” from “Grey’s Anatomy” to “CSI.” But her most famous role is definitely as Charlotte on “Revenge,” which she starred on for four seasons.
Given that he’s so renowned for his motion capture work, it can sometimes be hard to remember that Andy Serkis has done plenty of work with his real face too. Besides playing Jenna’s boss Richard in “13 Going On 30,” Serkis has since appeared in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Ulysses Klaue. He also provided the voice and motion capture for Caesar in the “Planet of the Apes” reboots and Snoke in the “Star Wars” sequel trilogy. Serkis has done work behind the camera too, directing “Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle,” in which he also played Baloo. He’s set to direct the second “Venom” film, as well as star as Alfred in the new “Batman” film.
In “13 Going On 30,” Judy Greer played Jenna’s ambitious bestie/former bully Lucy Wyman. Lucy would probably be envious of Greer’s success, as she’s arguably the most prolific actor on our list, appearing in a ton of TV shows and movies in the years since the film. Greer has been in movies like “Carrie,” as well as in the “Ant-Man” films. She’s also made her directorial debut with 2017s “A Happening of Monumental Proportions”. Meanwhile, her most regular TV role has been as the voice of Cheryl on “Archer.” Greer also stars in the Showtime show “Kidding.”
Since appearing as the adult version of Matt, Jenna’s best friend and love interest in “13 Going On 30,” Mark Ruffalo has become a huge movie star. Ruffalo has made appearances in big hits like the “Now You See Me” films, critical darlings such as “Spotlight,” and of course, we can’t forget his role as the Hulk in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Ruffalo’s small screen work has been sparser, but that’s about to change, as he’s set to star in and produce the forthcoming HBO miniseries, “I Know This Much Is True.”
After getting her big break on television, Jennifer Garner’s first big movie role was as the suddenly 30-year-old version of Jenna Rink in “13 Going On 30.” Garner has had continued success on the big screen, appearing in a host of movies in the last few years. Although the majority have been romantic comedies, such as “Valentine’s Day,” she’s also appeared in dramas like “The Dallas Buyers Club,” and even returned to her action roots with thrillers like “Peppermint.” She’s also had a recent return to television in the short series, “Camping.” Garner may not be 30 anymore, but she’s still flirty and thriving.
