Seeing the Grand Staircase in Hogwarts Legacy for the first time is a moment you won’t soon forget. The iconic nature of this magical spiraling staircase is shown off in incredible detail and breadth as you wander through Hogwarts Castle. You could easily spend hours just strolling up and down the stairs finding sentient portraits, spotting things flying around, scooping up Field Pages, and watching students going about their witch and wizarding business.

The staggering variety of classrooms in Hogwarts Legacy is pretty remarkable, especially since you can enter and explore all of the ones you stumble across. The sheer amount of detail and artistry that has gone into crafting these rooms for magical learning won’t soon get old. From the cellar-like classroom that teaches Potions via Professor Sharp to Professor Fig’s eclectic taste in decor in his Magical Theory classroom to Defense Against the Dark Arts’ classroom, each one feels wholly unique and thoroughly enjoyable to discover and explore. Plus, there are even a handful of lesser known, out-of-reach classrooms that are a real treat to find.

The Forbidden Forest

10 Hidden Secrets in Hogwarts Legacy

No location in all of Harry Potter or Hogwarts Legacy is quite as creepy, foreboding, and ominous as the Forbidden Forest. Students are advised at all times from the Ministry of Magic that this infamous locale is off limits. However, as fans know from both the movies and this game, there’s just too much allure and mystery that needs to be hoovered up in this overgrown woodland. Fortunately, many of the game’s quests naturally take you here, such as Jackdaw’s Rest. Just know you have been warned about the Dugbogs, Mongrels, and Spiders that await fearless adventures of the Forest.

The Black Lake

The more that I think about it, the more I wonder if the Black Lake is named after Headmaster Black. Speculation on my part aside, the Black Lake is a magnificent body of water that encompasses all of Hogwarts Castle like one ginormous moat. Fans of the Harry Potter movies will have seen the titular lake many times so it’s a treat to explore this hearty body of water in Hogwarts Legacy as well. From recreating the scene of Harry flying over the lake on Buckbeak to swimming in the lake to discover treasures to exploring the Black Lake boatdock where new students arrive, this iconic location is up for grabs in Hogwarts Legacy.

Hagrid’s Hut

I have to imagine that one of the very first locations that Harry Potter fans sought out when first booting up the game was none other than Hagrid’s Hut. Well, this charming locale is fully explorable in the game. Nothing beats crossing the Wooden Bridge and seeing the spot that Hermione punched Draco Malfoy in the nose near the stonehenge pillars. From there, venture down the hill path to get to Hagrid’s beloved hut, replete with pumpkins galore. The interior is certainly not as quaint and cozy as the movies but there is a nod to Buckbeak just behind the hut in a sombering stone piece structure.

The Great Hall

Ah yes, the Great Hall, easily one of the best locations in both the Harry Potter movies and in Hogwarts Legacy. Seeing this location in full gamified beauty during the end of the ‘Welcome to Hogwarts’ quest is quite sublime, especially as you have the Sorting Hat plopped onto your head. While you can’t explore it during this quest, venturing back here later in the game is a must-do task since it’s a treat to see. The floating candles are there to greet you along with the ever-changing sky ceiling. There are always students sat around the massive banquet tables scarfing down some yummy looking food. Plus, much like many other areas in the game, the Great Hall changes with the seasons and holidays. Simply splendid!

Quidditch Pitch

While many fans are lamenting the fact that Quidditch isn’t actually playable in the game, we can, at least, enjoy exploring the famous Quidditch pitch. Yep, this unique sports arena is ready to be viewed at any time, and it certainly doesn’t disappoint. You do come here on a side quest to race and fly against Imelda, but you can also just fly around on your broomstick and make believe you are playing Quidditch. That, or load up your copy of Harry Potter: Quidditch World Cup.

Gryffindor Common Room

The Gryffindor common room in Hogwarts Legacy quite literally brought tears to my eyes the first time I wandered in. I’m nostalgic, okay! Seeing this truly memorable location from the movies where Harry, Ron, and Hermione spent so much time will immediately pull at your heartstrings. This utterly charming and cozy common room is festooned with paintings, sconces, portraits, regal wallpaper, and more, drawing you into its immersive ambiance. While each of the house commons rooms are downright stunning, it’s the Gryffinor one that stands above the rest for hardocre Potter fans.

Hogsmeade Village and Station

Holy guacamole, I can’t tell you how excited I get when I strolled into Hogmeade Village with Sebastian Sallow during the ‘Welcome to Hogsmeade’ quest early on in the game. There’s really no putting into words just how darn spectacular this location is. It’s a location that is brimming with details to discover, providing a sheer cornucopia of visual and auditory treats all across its cobblestone pathways. Getting to see Ollivanders, the Three Broomsticks, and Zonkos in full glory will undoubtedly bring a smile to your face, and that’s without even mentioning the likes of Honeydukes or Brood and Peck. Seeing this locale change for each season was remarkable. If all that wasn’t enough, you can even head over to Hogsmeade Station to see where students arrive to head off to Hogwarts Castle.

Hogwarts Castle and Grounds

Okay, okay, this might be cheating to just feature all of Hogwarts Castle and its surrounding grounds; however, can you really argue with the fact that you can explore these areas at your leisure? While I have discussed more in more detail about specific locations in and around Hogwarts, it’s the mere fact that you can just take in all of Hogwarts Castle at your convenience, whether by foot, broomstick, hippogriff, and more. Swooping between castle spires, stopping off on one of the many bridges, and discovering the verdant flora and fauna of the grounds is nothing short of amazing for Potter fans. Take your time seeking out every nook and cranny of Hogwarts Castle. You will always be rewarded for your inquisitive nature.
