10 Celebs Who Won’t Let Their Kids Be Famous
Welcome to MsMojo, and today we’re looking at stars who are most notably reluctant to let their children join them in high-profile, high-pressure show business.
#10: Duke & Duchess of Sussex
There may be no more high-profile family than the British Royals. That especially goes for the playboy prince Harry, Duke of Sussex, and his former actress wife Meghan Markel. The births of their children Archie and Lili were obviously huge pop culture events. Since then, however, public appearances have been rare. The Duke and Duchess have explained that they actively keep their kids out of the spotlight. As the son of Princess Diana, Harry is more familiar with the perils of public pressure than most royals. It should be noted that child safety is also one of his and Meghan’s most impassioned philanthropic efforts. Despite the glamorous combination of royal and tabloid stardom, the couple take their children's privacy very seriously.
#9: Priyanka Chopra & Nick Jonas
Lifelong American star Nick Jonas and Bollywood icon Priyanka Chopra are a power couple on a global scale. It's lovely to hear them brag about their daughter Malti. Of course, fans will have to settle for word of mouth. Jonas and Chopra are fiercely protective of Malti’s privacy, and didn't even publish a photo until she was a year old. Jonas is particularly outspoken about his right to protect his child from the media and his own industry. Brother Joe and his ex-wife, British actress Sophie Turner, are similarly private about daughters Willa and Delphine. Whether Malti will one day follow her parents into worldwide stardom, it will have to be on her own terms.
#8: Kristen Bell & Dax Shepard
Veteran comedic actors Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard have turned their marriage into its own brand. From hilarious interviews to hit commercials, they’re glad to share everything but their two daughters. Lincoln and Delta are so protected that when their parents do put photos of them on social media, their faces are obscured. Unfortunately, the paparazzi do manage to snap the occasional candid. Bell and Shepard are fighting such media intrusion as major supporters of the “No Kids Policy” movement. They’re dedicated to keeping their daughters out of the industry, and have expressed resistance to Lincoln and Delta joining the grind in the future. Over time, though, the couple has softened to the idea of legacies in the family business.
#7: Gigi Hadid & Zayn Malik
Gigi Hadid draws the cameras as a leading supermodel, as does pop star ex-partner Zayn Malik. Khai Malik was practically born to be a glamorous icon. And yet, her parents are so guarded about her privacy that Hadid published an open letter pleading with paparazzi to never show the child’s face. The media has largely respected this request. Hadid and Zayn insist that their daughter have a normal childhood as far removed from their public images as possible. The singer has at least said that he'll support whatever, well, direction Khai takes in life. Until then, we have to take his and Hadid’s word that their daughter has inherited their natural showmanship.
#6: Mindy Kaling
Actress-writer Mindy Kaling has given the world many beloved roles and shows, as well as three children. But she won't even disclose the paternity of Katherine, Spencer and Anne. The children themselves, born between 2017 and 2024, are carefully hidden in the public and social media posts. Kaling has stated that she plans to hide their faces until they're old enough to properly consent to public exposure. She has also mentioned that she's reluctant to share her work with her kids. Kaling has clearly mastered keeping her public and private lives separate. As that especially goes for her kids, she doesn't seem eager to bring them into stardom any time soon.
#5: Angelina Jolie
Actors Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt have never hid their six children from the public eye. Still, Jolie has said that none seems interested in acting, and that she hopes it stays that way. She is concerned about the negative effects of too much fame. For all her talent and success, Jolie knows this burden as a second-generation movie star. Never mind the scandals surrounding her personal life, especially in the wake of a nasty divorce from Pitt. Their children's comments on the matter marked an unfortunate breakout for their status as mature public figures. They clearly inherited their parents’ presence, but Jolie must be even more anxious about them being in the spotlight.
#4: Drew Barrymore
Drew Barrymore’s name represents two acting dynasties that predate cinema. As far as she's concerned, though, the lineage should end with her. Barrymore is protective of daughters Olive and Frankie, and hopes they won't go into acting. If they do, she’s only willing to support private training. As one of the preeminent child actors of her day, Barrymore knows all too well the pressures of growing up in the entertainment industry. She has been outspoken about her struggles with father John Drew and juvenile substance use disorder. Barrymore wants to make sure Olive and Frankie are fully adjusted before entering the spotlight. If they are destined for the family business, their mother won't even consider it until they're 18.
#3: Nick Cannon
Actor, comedian, rapper and media personality Nick Cannon is a real Renaissance man. He's also a father of 12! With their mothers being models and entertainers themselves, the children's talent must be natural. Of course, Cannon would rather keep that under wraps. He wants his children to do something challenging in their lives, fearing that nepotism would open them to easy work and public scrutiny. He believes they've already had too much exposure for comfort via social media. Cannon remains devoted to his many kids, and is even willing to lend his name to help them fulfill their dreams in showbiz. He just hopes that they’ll put their versatile talents to other use.
#2: Jennifer Garner
Despite her wholesome image, actress Jennifer Garner is very careful with her maternal brand. Violet, Fin and Sam Affleck are rarely seen by the world. Their mother has even barred them from social media out of mental health concerns. Her ex-husband Ben Affleck is also strictly private about his children. Of course, Garner made a uniquely public gesture. In 2013, she testified before a California state committee for the protection of minors from the paparazzi. This inspired a law limiting media intrusion and representation of celebrities’ children. Garner won't even let her peers’ kids be famous, at least without parental consent. While she hasn't publicly addressed her children's future prospects in the industry, she's dedicated to protecting them from it now.

#1: Jason Momoa
Most actors who want a low-profile family admit that they’d support their kids’ showbiz ambitions. Jason Momoa may be living the good life as a Hollywood megastar, but it’s not a life he wants for daughter Lola or son Nakoa-Wolf. In an interview with “Entertainment Tonight”, he was adamant about not wanting his and Lisa Bonet’s children to pursue acting. He feels that the industry is too much pressure to place on people he loves. Keeping them out of it can’t make the grind any easier. But Momoa already efficiently shields his children from the paparazzi. The prolific actor is proud to share them with the public on his own terms, but sincerely hopes that they can enjoy a future of privacy.
