Beyond acting on screen, Ezra Miller has also dabbled in the music world with their band ODDKIN, previously known as Sons of an Illustrious Father. In February 2022, Miller got in touch with music producer Oliver Ignatius. Since the duo had worked together previously, Ignatius agreed to work on a new project. He decided to bring in Philadelphia-based rapper Ghais Guevara with Miller’s blessing. Shortly after other controversies, Ignatius showed Miller the progress. However, upon hearing a track about Ignatius’s friend that was slain by her husband, the actor reportedly had an “aggressive temper tantrum.” After the producer quit the project, he accused Miller of leaking the unfinished work via a pseudonym Instagram account, including songs Miller didn’t even work on.
In January 2022, we began to see the signs of Miller’s struggles after they posted a video threatening the supposed Beulaville, North Carolina, chapter of the Ku Klux Klan on their Instagram account. Opening by introducing themself with their name and the pseudonyms of “Bengal Ghouls” and “the Mad Goose Wizard,” Miller directed their video to the group, telling them to use their firearms on themselves. The actor also suggested they know what the Klan is up to, and if they didn’t use the weapons on themselves, the actor implied a group would do it for them. The caption for the video stated this wasn’t a joke and didn’t give an exact reason for its creation.
In June 2022, Variety published an article that detailed the experience of someone named Nadia with Miller in February. She stated that after a friendship of a couple of years, Miller visited her at her apartment in Berlin, Germany. As the actor rolled a cigarette, Nadia told them they couldn’t smoke inside. Miller allegedly exploded in rage and called Nadia a “Nazi” – despite her being a relative of a Holocaust survivor – and “transphobic.” So, she asked them to leave multiple times. With the threat of the cops, Miller did eventually leave. However, Miller later returned, claiming Nadia had stolen from them, when in reality, they had just forgotten their jacket at her place. Nadia filed a report with the police. However, it couldn’t be pursued since Miller wasn’t in the country.
In June 2022, news broke that a mother in Greenfield, Massachusetts, had successfully been granted a harassment prevention order against Miller for allegations of inappropriate behavior towards her child. During one of the earlier encounters, Miller wore a bulletproof vest and waved a firearm while they were visiting her neighbor. The actor reportedly then inappropriately touched the child and acted strangely, offering to create a fashion brand with the child. The actor later turning up at the mother’s house on multiple occasions, including being dressed as a cowboy and claiming they would buy the child horses, was the last straw for the mother as she got the order issued. In 2023, the order was lifted, and Miller’s representatives denied the accusations.
Miller had a very eventful time in Hawaii during 2022, with several scandals sprouting up – more on that later. In April 2022, they were arrested by the police in Pāhoa on the charge of second-degree assault. Miller was allegedly in a rage after being asked to leave an acquaintance’s home in the early hours. They reportedly threw a chair, which struck a woman on the forehead, leaving a half-inch wound. According to what TMZ posted, she stated in her 9-1-1 call that she had offered up her home to the actor, only for it to turn nasty. Miller attempted to drive away from the scene, but the police were able to locate and arrest them.
In May 2022, police arrived at a residence in Stamford, Vermont, regarding the theft of several bottles of alcohol while the homeowner wasn’t home. After examining surveillance footage and speaking to witnesses, they found their culprit in Ezra Miller. The actor, who was childhood friends with the victim before falling out, claimed they needed rice wine to cook and believed their former friend would be fine with it. They were not. After originally pleading not guilty in 2022, Miller agreed on a deal to plead guilty to trespassing, causing the other charges to be dropped in January 2023. They were fined $500 plus court costs and handed a year of probation with an agreement to avoid alcohol and continue their mental health treatment.
After their experience in Hawaii, Miller offered to house a woman and her three children at their farm in Stamford, Vermont in April 2022. Soon, reports came out about allegations of unsafe conditions there. The children’s father and others claimed Miller had weapons and ammunition around the house that were accessible to the children. There were also allegations of substance use. The woman stated Miller was helping her leave her abusive ex. In August 2022, after several attempts to issue the mother with an emergency care order for the state to take in her children, Miller met with the authorities and told them she hadn't lived there for months.
While the actor has since issued an apology and began treatment for “complex mental health issues” in 2022, it was two years prior that the first scandal involving Miller’s controversial behavior came to light. In April 2020, the actor was recorded grabbing a woman by the throat and violently taking her down, shocking social media. This incident took place at a bar in Reykjavík, Iceland that Miller was known to visit when in the country. Reportedly, the woman was messing around and joking about fighting Miller. Instead of shrugging it off or leaving, they responded aggressively. Staff at the bar quickly intervened and removed Miller from the venue. There were also reports that during their stay in the European nation, Miller was running a cult at an Airbnb and had been psychologically abusive towards a musician during a brief relationship.
In June 2022, Native American activists Chase Iron Eyes and Sara Jumping Eagle’s request for a protective order against Miller to protect their child, Tokata Iron Eyes was issued. They claimed the activist was being groomed by the actor. They stated Miller had met Tokata when she was a pre-teen in 2016. Since then, the actor had allegedly used lavish trips to film sets, physical and psychological abuse, and illicit substances to turn Tokata against their parents and under Miller’s sway. Some of the abuse claims were supported by Oliver Ignatius. Tokata denied the allegations with a social media video. However, some believe the video was scripted. When the court attempted and struggled to give Miller the order, the actor mocked them on social media before deleting it.
After arriving in Hawaii in March 2022, Miller quickly annoyed residents by committing several petty infractions. But while at a karaoke bar in Hilo, it got much worse. As people were singing a song from 2018’s “A Star Is Born,” Miller exploded in rage, trying to grab the mic from a woman and attacking a man playing darts. The actor stated that they were accosted, causing their reaction. Miller later pleaded no contest to the charges and was fined $500. Once Miller was arrested and released on bail, they were causing further problems hours later. According to a couple, who was granted a temporary restraining order, Miller was staying with them. The actor allegedly threatened the two and stole their wallet and passport before leaving.
