LEGO makes sets of… well, everything. That includes classic movies, vehicles, landmarks and, of course, gaming icons. So, if you’re looking for a LEGO set fit for a gamer, don’t go anywhere, we’ve got you covered. To help you seek out the best gaming LEGO sets out there, we’ve collaborated with our fam over at GetMojo, who have sifted through numerous website and consumer reviews to present their 5 recommended products.
Oh, and if you haven’t already heard of the GetMojo channel, you should go and check it out. They have a ton of other product-based lists and unboxings, covering everything from gaming gear to swimming pools. Link is in the description. Okay, first up.
Okay, so we wanted to kick things off with what is perhaps the digital gaming equivalent of the LEGO brand - Minecraft. There are a ton of smaller Minecraft LEGO sets available, but we wanted to focus on the big daddy of sets, the Mountain Cave. The brainiacs over at LEGO have created this unbelievably detailed set that features tons of popular Minecraft characters, a reconfigurable minecart track, a piston elevator, light functions and even an exploding TNT element. If you’ve ever built anything in Minecraft, you’ll appreciate how genius this set is.
There are quite a few LEGO video games that focus on classic franchises, and one of the most popular is, of course, Harry Potter. And with this Diagon Alley set you can relive both moments from the LEGO game and the movies, exploring stores like Olivanders, Flourish & Blotts and Weasleys' Wizard Wheezes. The accessories, characters and niche details in this set are fantastic. You’ve got books, wands, broomsticks, street signs, magical fireworks, interactive building elements, and of course, Gilderoy Lockhart. It’ll take you quite a while to digest everything this set has to offer!
Come on, we couldn’t not include Mario. For fans of the platform plumber, this starter set includes a DIY style course that allows you to create your own Mario-style levels. But the best part is the interactive Mario that comes with it - which has over 100 reactions built-in, including eye, mouth and belly animations. And the great thing about this set is that it’s almost endlessly customisable, with a ton of other Mario LEGO builds you can purchase and add onto it, to create your own Super Mario world!
Speaking of Nintendo staples, if you want to own a piece of history - in LEGO form that is - then why not go for this plastic brick version of the NES! Aside from the staggering attention to detail of this console and TV build, its real party trick is the fact that you can watch Mario jump his way across the screen - how cool is that! This is one of the most unique and eye-catching sets we’ve ever seen. Oh yeah, and you can even have your Super Mario Adventures character interact with it too!
We’ve got another alumnus of the LEGO video game franchise next, with the Mos Eisley Cantina, which features in both the Star Wars LEGO video game and, naturally, the iconic movie franchise. This set has 21 mini figures and a whole host of fan-favorite design features, like the booths where the Cantina band plays and Han Solo did - or didn’t - shoot first. And then there’s the bar, the parts shop, and even additional accessories like the Landspeeder and Dewback. We love the removable roof of this model too, which lets you get right inside the action.
So which LEGO set should you go for? Well, every gamer has their favorite franchise, and even if the sets we mentioned don’t perfectly hit the spot, we’re betting there’s something that each of them offers that will spark the fanboy or fangirl in everyone.
Oh, and before you go, don't forget to check out the GetMojo YouTube channel for more product rankings and reviews.
