He's the gaming world's most beloved Italian plumber. Welcome to Watchmojo.com, and today we'll be highlighting the 7 things you may not know about Nintendo's latest flagship title, "New Super Mario Bros.Wii"
#1 The Plot
You may not have known it, but you probably could have guessed it! The game’s plot will involve Mario having to venture out to save the princess, who has yet again been captured by King Bowser, this time during her birthday celebration!
#2 Return to Old School
Due to popular demand, the franchise has returned to its traditional 2D platforming roots. This is Mario’s first console based side-scrolling adventure since Super Mario World came out in the early 90s. Fans will rejoice to hear that King Koopa’s seven children will also be returning to the franchise after a considerable absence.
#3 Multiplayer
For the first time in the series, 4 players can play on-screen simultaneously. Gamers can choose between Mario, Luigi, or their two Toad friends. Despite your choice, the characters will all have equal abilities. Unfortunately, the game does not feature an online mode, so you’ll have to be in the same room as your friends to play co-op.
#4 Game Play Modes
While saving the princess, gamers will be able to choose from two different play modes. The first is called “Coin Battle”, which awards a winner following every level based on the number of coins collected. The second, even more competitive option is called “Free Mode”, which ranks players in order of their coins collected, in addition to points scored and amount of enemy kills.
#5 Controls
The New Super Mario Bros. Wii can be played by using the Wii-mote held sideways, or by connecting it with the nunchuk controller for the added use the its analog stick. The game cannot be played with the Gamecube controller as you must tilt, shake and spin the Wii-mote to activate special attacks and moves.
#6 Power-Ups
The Mario Bros. franchise is well known for its use of power-ups, and this game introduces several new additions. Players will be able to pick-up propeller suits to fly, wear penguin suits to handle frozen surfaces, and ride Yoshis. Plus, various new weapon items such as the Ice Flower will allow you to freeze your enemies.
#7 The Super Guide
In an Interesting move, Nintendo has created a new feature called “The Super Guide”. This allows players to have the computer play through the level for them whenever they pause the game. To avoid tempting gamers to abuse this option, it is only available in the single player campaign once a player fails to complete a level eight times. Nintendo has pioneered this feature in the hopes of eliminating any possible frustration to younger gamers, and keeping the game going!
