All of John Krasinski’s Voice Performances
Welcome to MsMojo, and today we’re counting down our picks for all the times John Krasinski memorably brought some of our favorite animated (or silhouetted) characters to life.
#10: Cuthbert
“Monsters vs. Aliens” (2009)
When an alien menace named Gallaxhar threatens to take over Earth, who you gonna call? A ragtag team of monsters, of course! Krasinski voices Cuthbert, a man whose date with a woman named Katie, is interrupted when Gallaxhar lands on Earth. Is interrupted even the right word? Katie seems far more into this date than Cuthbert, so perhaps the spaceship's arrival was perfect timing. Krasinski's character is hilariously nervous and doesn’t fare well in the face of the unknown. He excellently bounces off Renée Zellweger’s confident and curious Katie with perfect comedic charm. Who knows what fate had in store for these two; something tells us it wasn't another date.
#9: 7723
“Next Gen” (2018)
“Next Gen” takes us into a futuristic world where robots are as common as smartphones. In this animated adventure, Krasinski lends his voice to 7723, an experimental robot who forms an unlikely friendship with a kid named Mai Su. Together, they embark on a world-saving mission— think of it as Netflix’s answer to “Big Hero 6.” Krasinski brings 7723 to life with warmth, humor, and plenty of heart. In fact, he makes 7723 feel like more than a robot; he becomes a friend, a confidant, and a source of genuine empathy in a world of wires and circuits. His performance adds an irresistible magnetism to the film that captivates audiences of all ages.
#8: Halim
“The Prophet” (2014)
In this animated gem, based on Kahlil Gibran's book, Krasinski plays Halim, a soldier watching over Mustafa, a foreign artist and activist put under house arrest. Halim strikes up a bond with Mustafa, the housekeeper, and her daughter, who’s deeply affected by her father’s passing. Together, they try to save Mustafa when he's arrested again for his controversial writings. Krasinski's humor adds a nice touch to the heartfelt story without overshadowing its deeper meanings. There’s a lot to love about this film, from its breathtaking animation, touching plot, and captivating cast of characters. It's a beautiful story, and Krasinski's Halim helps shine a light on its uplifting message.
#7: Secretariat
“BoJack Horseman” (2014-20)
Krasinski’s voice talents aren’t limited to the big screen. Take “Robot Chicken,” for instance, where he lends his voice to characters like the Commercial Director Mike Brady in an episode called “Secret of the Flushed Footlong.” And let’s not forget his role as a squirrel Gilbert in an “American Dad!” spoof of “What’s Eating Gilbert Grape.” Yet perhaps his stand-out TV voice gig is his two-episode stint on “BoJack Horseman.” Here, he plays Secretariat, a character inspired by a real-life racing legend. Krasinski nails the balance between Secretariat’s outward charm and inner struggles, perfectly capturing the essence of what also makes the show’s titular character so relatable.
#6: Owen Huntington
“Animal Crackers” (2017)
This movie is truly crackers! In it, a family unexpectedly inherits a struggling circus, only to stumble upon its secret to success: a magical box of animal crackers. Krasinski voices Owen, the main guy who's as quick with jokes as he is with saving the circus and guarding those crackers from the wrong hands. This role truly allows him to showcase his incredible range as an actor. In an impressively star-studded cast, Krasinski's scenes with real-life wife Emily Blunt add an extra sparkle to every moment they share. Even when they're just riffing off each other, their chemistry is so charming that the filmmakers kept it in the final movie.
#5: Silhouetted Gamer
“Free Guy” (2021)
In this action-packed comedy, we meet Guy, an everyday guy who discovers that he’s, in fact, not just a regular guy. He’s a background character in this massive online game called “Free City.” Since several in-game characters wear face coverings, Ryan Reynolds, the star and co-producer, had a fun idea to spice things up with some celebrity voice cameos. Alongside Dwayne “the Rock” Johnson, Tina Fey, and Hugh Jackman, Krasinski adds his voice to the mix. He plays a mysterious gamer who boasts about his achievements. Though his appearance is short, Krasinski’s cameo brings a delightful and humorous touch to the movie.
#4: Kiro Honjo
“The Wind Rises” (2013)
“The Wind Rises” tells the fictionalized tale of Jiro Horikoshi, the mastermind behind Japan’s World War II fighter planes. Caught between his dreams of flying and the grim reality of war, he finds solace in his friendship with Kiro Honjo, voiced by Krasinski in the English dub. As Jiro dreams big, Honjo keeps him grounded, reminding him of the challenges they face. Their banter adds a light touch to the weighty themes of the film. Honjo offers a refreshing perspective on his friend’s aviation dreams and enriches Jiro’s world with a different viewpoint. It can sometimes get heavy, but Krasinski and the cast know how to stir up all our feels.
#3: Kal-El / Clark Kent / Superman
“DC League of Super-Pets” (2022)
Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, it's John Krasinski doing a super job of voicing Krypto's owner, Superman! The character has been shown in many ways across countless mediums, so it can be difficult to make him stand out. Well, unless you're Krasinski. He captures the classic heroic essence of Superman while also bringing the character down to earth with some subtle humor. Plus, his connection with Krypto, his on-screen bestie, is just perfect. Even though Superman isn't the central character, Krasinski brings surprising layers to his performance. Still, what we love most is how he uses his comedic background for a fun take on the character.
#2: “Frightening” Frank McCay
“Monsters University” (2013)
The actor may have only had a small role in the “Monsters, Inc.” sequel. However, you could argue that he played one of the most important characters in the entire franchise. Why? Well, in “Monsters University,” we see a flashback to Mike Wazowski’s first visit to Monsters, Incorporated, on a school field trip. That’s where he meets “Frightening” Frank McCay, one of the company’s top Scarers, who sparks his lifelong dream of becoming a Scarer himself. In this short scene, Krasinski wins over not just young Mike but also pretty much everyone watching. If Monstropolis could run on charisma and friendliness alone, McCay would be its powerhouse for life.
#1: Lancelot
“Shrek the Third” (2007)
Did you know that Krasinski voiced the Medieval high school jerk, oh sorry, we mean jock? So far, we’ve mostly seen him as these likable characters that are easy to root for. However, somehow, he also nails the more arrogant knucklehead on the jousting field, and surprisingly, we still want to cheer for him. In this “Shrek” installment, he’s initially mistaken for Arthur, the dweebish heir to the Far Far Away throne. Honestly, they don’t give Krasinski enough screen time in that role. He totally steals the spotlight with every line he delivers! Every time we watch the movie and hear his voice, we can’t help but give a little “huzzah!”
What’s your favorite John Krasinski voice-acting performance? It would be great “IF” you shared them in the comments.
