Celebs Who Have Been Arrested in 2023 So Far

Welcome to WatchMojo, and today we’re examining our picks for the Celebs Who Have Been Arrested in 2023 So Far. For this list, we’ll be looking at infamous moments when famous faces got processed by the police in the first half of 2023. Which arrest shocked you the most? Let us know below!

Greta Thunberg

The Swedish environmental activist is no stranger to the police, having had several run-ins with the law while protesting inaction on climate change. In January 2023, Thunberg was at a protest in Lützerath, Germany, against the expansion of a coal mine that would destroy the village. After refusing to move from the mine’s edge, Thunberg and fellow activists were dragged away by the cops and detained. She was released the same day. The video of Thunberg being carried away while looking bemused became instantly iconic. She wasn’t the only celebrity arrested in 2023 while protesting environmental destruction. In May 2023, Dutch singer and actor Carice van Houten was arrested with 1,500 members of Extinction Rebellion as they blocked a highway in The Hague.

Haley Pullos

Actress Haley Pullos made her name as Molly Lansing-Davis in the soap opera “General Hospital”. But she’s now being sued for allegedly putting someone else in the hospital. In April 2023, Pullos was involved in a car crash in Pasadena, California, when she reportedly swerved into oncoming traffic, hitting another vehicle. While she was fine, the other driver was severely injured. When the emergency services arrived, Pullos allegedly struck a firefighter. She reportedly smelt of alcohol and later fought hospital staff. Pullos was arrested for a DUI and later attended rehab. Shortly after, it was announced Pullos’s role would be recast on “General Hospital”, and in June, she was sued by the other driver.

B. J. Whitmer

For years, veteran wrestler B.J. Whitmer was the workhorse for Ring of Honor. Regardless of whether he was competing in single or tag matches, he won numerous championships in his career. After leaving the squared circle behind, he took up a coaching and producing role at All Elite Wrestling in 2019. But in June 2023, Whitmer was arrested for domestic violence involving strangulation and burglary. Each charge holds a maximum sentence of 10 years. Shortly after, AEW terminated his contract with the company.

Nicola Sturgeon

Starting in 2014, Nicola Sturgeon was the First Minister of Scotland and leader of the Scottish National Party. Under her reign, the argument for Scottish independence from Great Britain grew more vocal. However, in February 2023, Sturgeon suddenly announced her intention to resign. In April, her husband, Peter Murrell, was arrested as part of Operation Branchform, an investigation into fundraising fraud within the SNP. He was later released. In June, Sturgeon was also arrested, and questioned about £600,000 in donations that had allegedly been ‘diverted’ elsewhere. She was released without charge pending further investigation.

Andy Dick

It’s not every day a celebrity really lives up to their name. But Andy Dick is a unique case who’s been in legal trouble many, many times. Some of the charges he’s had over the years include possessing illegal substances, assault, and sexual battery. In January 2023, eight months after being arrested for stealing power tools, Dick was taken in by the police in Lake Elsinore, California, for public intoxication and failure to register as a sex offender. Reportedly, the actor had been causing trouble at a bar, and the cops were called. They discovered Dick hadn’t updated his residential information on the register, so the handcuffs were slammed on him for the umpteenth time.

Jay Johnston

If there was one character on “Bob’s Burgers” who we wouldn’t be surprised to be involved in a coup, it would be Jimmy Pesto. And, apparently, the same goes for the voice actor Jay Johnston. In January 2021, the world was stunned when Donald Trump supporters stormed the United States Capitol Building in Washington, D.C., spurred on by Trump’s false claims that he hadn’t really lost the 2020 presidential election. Afterwards, the FBI put up an image on social media looking for a particular suspect that people jokingly said looked like Johnston. Well, that’s ‘coz it was. Text messages from the actor seemingly confirmed he was present and taking part. In June 2023, he was arrested for civil disorder and released on bond.

Jonathan Majors

In February 2023, “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania” was released, with Jonathan Majors reprising his role as Kang the Conqueror - the next big bad of the MCU. But just one month later, Majors had a major issue when he was arrested for assault, strangulation and harassment of a woman identified as his partner. Majors’ attorney claimed the woman had recanted, showing text messages stating they had fought and she had passed out - but it was “not an attack”. This was met with some skepticism; soon more women came forward with similar accusations against the actor. Majors’ PR company dropped him, and multiple cases are ongoing.

Dani Alves

Having played football for Juventus, Paris Saint-Germain, and Barcelona, Dani Alves is one of the most decorated players of all time. But that legacy has been forever tarnished. In January 2023, the full-back was arrested in Spain due to an allegation that he had sexually assaulted a woman in a nightclub the previous month. Initially, Alves denied that anything happened. But as evidence mounted against him, he changed his story several times. In his fourth story, he claimed that the encounter had been consensual, but he had lied to hide it from his wife. Due to the arrest, Mexico’s Club Universidad Nacional terminated his contract, and his wife left him.

Bam Margera

On-screen, skateboarder and “Jackass” star Bam Margera seemed like a chaotic but good-natured guy. But addiction issues have factored into his recent spiral, even causing him to be fired from 2022’s “Jackass Forever.” In March 2023, Margera was arrested for kicking a woman, apparently his partner. The following month, he made death threats to his brother, punched him in the face, and fled from police. After three days, Margera handed himself in. In June, after a tirade of disturbing messages to family and friends, the stunt performer was placed on a psychiatric hold for his and others' safety. Upon being released, Margera entered a rehab facility to hopefully get the help he needed.

Donald Trump

Donald Trump’s controversial presidency ended in January 2021, as the country reeled in shock from the United States Capitol attack intended to keep him in power. He still faces investigations into his alleged efforts to interfere with the 2020 election. In April 2023, he was arrested in New York for another matter - 34 counts of falsifying business accounts, relating to hush money payments to adult star Stormy Daniels. In June, he was arrested again in Miami, and faces 37 criminal charges for mishandling classified documents. It’s alleged that he deliberately concealed these documents at his Mar-a-Lago residence, including some with sensitive national defense information. Trump has pleaded not guilty.
