Darksiders II: Everything You Should Know
And the 4th rider was Death. Welcome to WatchMojo.com and today we’ll be exploring everything you should know about Darksiders II.
Developed by Vigil Games and published by THQ for the Xbox 360, PS3, the forthcoming Wii U and Windows PC, this is the highly anticipated sequel to 2010’s sleeper hit.
For those who didn’t play the first game in the series: it was a gripping single-player third-person hack and slash action romp centered on War, the most honorable and incorruptible member of the four Horsemen of the apocalypse. Falsely convicted for starting the Apocalypse early, he was banished to Earth by the Charred Council, the mediators between heaven and hell.
As there can only be one apocalypse, this game runs parallel with those events, following another horseman of the apocalypse, Death, who has been awoken by the end of days. Filled with rage and coming to suspect that something is amiss, the eternal defies the council and travels to Earth and the Nether Realms, a space between Heaven and Hell, to prove his brother’s innocence. Along the way, he must fight countless foes, unravel a conspiracy against mankind, and uncover a threat worse than Earth’s annihilation.
Playing as Death, an agile and powerful antihero, gamers are aided by his bird Dust, and trusty horse, Despair as well as a strange cackling laughter that beckons Death forward towards his goals.
Along the way, players must hack and slash their way through countless unfortunate souls, sending them back to the afterlife. Meanwhile, platforming remains an integral part of the gameplay, having players spring between ledges, posts and footholds.
Fans of the original can rest easy knowing the game’s strong visual style remains intact. Complete with entirely all-new environments that are twice as big as before, with multiple dungeons and city hubs filled with NPC’s and engaging side quests. Often coined as a more mature version of Zelda, the classic Darksiders formula remains largely intact throughout the new changes.
Like before, players must make use of a revamped leveling system. This is augmented by twelve horrifying sets of armor, which shift Death’s abilities between such classes as the Necromancer, Rogue and Warrior. Meanwhile, armor is purchased and equipped by collecting items and coins dropped by slain adversaries: and work to make Death quicker, stronger and able to use new magic powers.
Handling differently from the slower and more tank-like War, Death is quicker and more agile fighter, and promises to offer a fresh feel to the combat heavy gameplay.
If you’re dying to slay massive creatures, see breath-taking sights and experience killer action, than Darksiders II is the journey through hell you've been waiting for!
