Gears of War Judgment: Everything You Should Know
It’s judgment day on the planet Sera. Welcome to WatchMojo.com and today we’ll be exploring everything you should know about Gears of War: Judgment.
Developed by Epic Games and People Can Fly, this prequel takes place before the events of the first installment in the series and shifts the focus away from the series stars Marcus Fenix and his pal Dominic Santiago.
Taking place in the wake of Emergence Day, Judgment centers on a treason charge against Kilo Squad for their actions during the battle of Halvo Bay. This unit is made up of series regulars Lt. Damon Baird and Pvt. Augustus Cole, who are joined by new characters, which include Sofia Hendrik, a former journalist, and Garron Paduk, a man out for vengeance against the Locust.
With the narrative centered on the squad answering for their actions, the 4-player online campaign has gamers follow the team as they steal experimental coalition technology while battling against a powerful Locust General named Karn and his invasion force. Much of the campaign takes place during his assault on Halvo Bay, and the siege of Gorasnaya.
A prequel that reduces the focus on scripted sequences, the battles of the game are designed to be more open ended and dynamic, while bringing back the heart stopping terror that the Locust were once recognized for. It also showcases the world of Sera in way not yet seen in the series.
The main campaign also features a wide variety of “Declassify Missions”. These have you experience what really happened during previously classified Locust encounters. These challenges task you with using specific weapons and tactics that will keep you on the edge. If you follow the guidelines, you earn stars, which open up a variety of game unlocks.
Making things more intense and unpredictable, Judgment features an all-new Smart Spawn System. This means that when you return to the game following a death, enemy types are changed, arranged differently, and given new attack patterns, preventing you from knowing what to expect.
Speaking of which, Judgment introduces new enemy types. Chief among them is the Ranger, a Locust that transforms to become armored and incredibly aggressive.
Other exciting additions include a new arrangement of tools. These include beacon grenades, which allow allies to locate enemies, as well as Stim-Gas grenades that handily heal and revive allies.
New weapons include the Booshka, a drum-loaded grenade launcher that fires ricocheting explosive rounds, a bolt-action sniper rifle called the Breeshot, and the semiautomatic Markza rifle. Also a series first, you can also now use any standard weapon in tandem with a brute shield, not just the pistol!
With a major component of the series being the multiplayer, Judgment introduces several new modes.
The first all new online mode called “Overrun”. Featuring teams of five, the COG team must defend Generators, while the Locust have to destroy them. In each match you will get to play as both sides. Whoever destroys the generators the fastest wins. While playing as the Cog, Individuals can choose from four defender classes. These include the engineer, who can place temporary sentries and repair fortifications, The soldier can resupply his teammates with ammo crates, the medic who can revive the injured, and the scout who can climb into perches and tosses tagging beacons to identify enemy positions.
The second all-new multiplayer option is the Free-for All Mode, which does away with the COG versus Locust battle dynamic, and finally allows every man to fight for himself.
The third addition is the new “Dynamic Defense Scenarios.” These game play scenarios randomly generate intense encounters for Kilo squad to overcome, providing a more structured experience than those found in Horde mode. One of the many twists is that will have auto turrets that they must defend, or lose them for good.
Though the series wrapped nicely in Gears 3, Judgment proves that there is still a lot of excitement left in the Gears universe. Judgment ups the action and fleshes out the harrowing story of the Locust War. Gears of War: Judgment is available exclusively for the Xbox 360.
