10 Hidden Secrets in Astro Bot

Welcome to MojoPlays, and today, we’re looking at 10 hidden secrets that are scattered across the newest PlayStation 5 exclusive, “Astro Bot”!

The Playroom Advantage

In case you missed it, “Astro’s Playroom” saw a few minor updates in the months leading up to “Astro Bot’s” launch. These updates added in special bots for you to search and rescue, one for each of the four worlds. Freeing these bots from their capsules would earn you some new trophies for your PlayStation profile, but they also have a special function for “Astro Bot” as well. Rescue all four, and you will be able to start off Astro’s new adventure with four bots available at the start, which will help boost your progress more than it may seem.

Puzzling Predicaments

In “Astro’s Playroom”, collecting every puzzle piece would eventually lead to the completion of a giant mural commemorating all of PlayStation’s first twenty-five years. In “Astro Bot”, puzzle pieces have a bit more functional use to further enhance your adventure. You will have four murals to complete in sequential order. Upon completing the murals, you will activate different facilities like the Dual Speeder Garage and the Gatcha capsule machine. There’s more to discover, but we won’t spoil any more of them here. That said, make sure you’re trying to collect every last puzzle piece!

Crash Site of Secrets

If you want to see every little thing that “Astro Bot” has to offer, it is imperative that you fully explore every level to rescue every bot. These adorable, little guys will help you navigate the crash site to uncover more galaxies. However, rescuing a certain number can help in uncovering more secrets. Around the various corners of the crash site, you will come across bots asking for you to recruit a certain number of characters. Fulfilling these requirements will often lead to you finding more bots, thus adding to your total. So, again, make sure you’re trying to collect everything as you go. It’ll make your life easier.

Best Bird Friend

Missed a puzzle piece or a lost bot on your first playthrough of a level? No worries - Team Asobi put in a special mechanic to help you out. When replaying a level, you’ll have the option of spending two hundred coins to free a robot bird that will signal the location of a secret when near one. Although, this birdy comes in handy if you chose to go through a secret goal. Regardless if you actually finished the level containing the warp, you will still be given the option of paying to have this bird help you. In other words, prioritize finding those warps so that you can make the rest of the normal level easier later on.

Hidden Photo Ops

Puzzle pieces and bots are the two collectibles you’ll have to worry about through Astro’s adventure. But there is another secret “collectible” to find. Some levels will have special photo ops where Astro can stick his face onto a board to create a funny little scene. Again, only some levels will have these photo ops, and finding them all doesn’t add to your completion or unlock anything except for some special environmental interactions. Still, it's worth being on the lookout for ‘em!

Bot Smacker

Those who played “Astro’s Playroom” will remember that there was something special to smacking bots around, specifically the ones dressed as various video game characters. You’d often get to see more references to the games the bots are living out, and this fun little feature returns in “Astro Bot”. Among the regular bots to rescue are VIP bots, characters dressed as various video game characters from both PlayStation and other companies. But most of them come with a catch to fully appreciate their inclusion. You may have to spend some ducats at the Gatcha machine to unlock special props for the various bots. Only then can you smack them and trigger special interactions. Of the ones we’ve seen, Kratos and The Prince have the best interactions!

Sacred Cheese

PlayStation’s sacred symbols make an expected appearance in “Astro Bot”. The most obvious appearances are when viewing the overworld, but there’s one specific appearance we found truly amusing. In Downsize Surprise, you’ll come across a bedroom with a bot sleeping in a bed. Go under the bed to find a few mice enjoying some cheese, each piece being the shape of the sacred symbols. Honestly, we’re sure you’ll be able to spot other collections of squares, circles, triangles, and crosses. This one, though, might be missable if you aren’t fully looking through every nook and cranny!

Bot of War

Look, we realize the name of the level really is “Bot of War”, but we don’t want to put too much focus on the level itself. While it is really funny running around as this chibi Kratos, we want to recognize this level for one funny detail. Odin’s annoying ravens make their unfortunate return, and there are eight of them for you to destroy here. Granted, they are much easier to find than they were in “God of War” 2018 and “Ragnarok”. To tell the truth, finding them all doesn’t get you anything substantial like a costume or a special cutscene. You will, on the other hand, get a PSN trophy!

Overworld Shenanigans

As we hinted at a couple entries ago, there are little secrets to find when traversing the overworld maps of each galaxy. If you see a cluster of sacred symbols or some stray asteroids floating around, crash into them. Doing so will most likely lead to uncovering more levels and sometimes, even puzzle pieces! But if you’re going for a full one hundred percent completion, you should absolutely take some time between levels to wander around the map and see what you can find. Even if it leads to nothing, it’s better to leave no stone unturned than to wonder if you’re just insane from past platformer collectathons.

Lost…& Found

Remember earlier when we mentioned birds and finding secret goals? Well, those secret goals lead to a sixth world that will become crucial to fully completing “Astro Bot”. The Lost Galaxy features a variety of levels with unique mechanics to challenge your platforming and exploration skills. As expected, not every warp will be in a super obvious place. Some might require some backtracking. Some might require certain events to happen before they become accessible like a boss fight before the main goal. Either way, don’t feel bad if you have to replay or restart a level to find the warp.
