Kid Icarus Uprising: Everything You Should Know
A long neglected Mascot returns in Nintendo’s biggest release of the year! Welcome to WatchMojo.com, and today we’re exploring everything you should know about “Kid Icarus Uprising.”
Developed by Project Sora and published by Nintendo for the 3DS handheld console, this is the first title to star the angelic Pit since 1991’s Game Boy installment “Kid Icarus: Of Myths and Monsters.” Incredibly, it is a direct sequel to his original NES game from way back in 1987.
In this long awaited adventure, the queen of the underworld has been revived following her defeat many years ago. Enraged and determined to watch the world sink into darkness, Medusa has once again unleashed her army on the land. To vanquish her and her forces of evil, Palutena, the goddess of light and guardian of the human race, enlists Pit to take on the fight.
With his Super Smash Bros. Brawl appearance intact, Pit takes on a variety of mission chapters. These have been split up between air and ground sections, each with their own unique set of mechanics.
The air sections take the form of an on-rail shooter, similar to Star Fox. Here, players must shoot magical arrows at enemies, and dodge incoming attacks until making it to the end of the level. On the other hand, ground levels play out like spectacular self-contained arenas, and give players full control over Pit as he takes out enemies with projectiles and with close-quarter hand-to-hand combat.
Along the way, Pit acquires new armaments. These are purchased from a weapons store, and include different bows and blades, many of which can be fused together. Each item will have its own benefit and drawback on the battlefield.
Meanwhile, collecting hearts from defeated foes can be used to increase the intensity of chapters. Doing so will earn you unique rewards, powers and pieces of equipment.
Sporting a gorgeous art style and graphics, this Nintendo title features voice work and the ability to interact all-new side-characters, both good and bad. It also incorporates an exciting and scalable risk versus reward system and mini-achievements.
In terms of control, most players will be content with the 3DS, and the special table-stand included that is meant to avoid hand cramping over long sessions, as much of the action is dependent on using both the analog and touch screen controls simultaneously. The game will also be compatible with the Circle Pad Pro accessory. This is primarily meant to help out southpaws, as the default control scheme favors right-handed players.
Best of all, Uprising has much replay value do to featuring its own 6-player competitive multiplayer game. Here, players can fight each other in Team Death Match or Free-For-All, both online or over Wi-Fi. Interestingly, AR cards are also included in the box, and used to unlock augmented reality mini-games to further lengthen the experience.
Making a triumphant return after a long absence, Kid Icarus Uprising will recapture the imagination of long-time fans, and thrill new comers alike. It is a sprawling adventure that transcends the size of the 3DS, and makes terrific use of the system’s 3D effect.
