Hollywood

Located northwest of downtown Los Angeles, Hollywood has been the heart of the American motion picture industry for decades due to the presence of movie studios, associated companies and celebrity activity.

Hollywood Sign

The district’s most iconic tourist attraction and landmark is the Hollywood Sign, which sits on Mount Lee in the Santa Monica Mountains. Those white letters are recognizable from miles away and have appeared in countless multimedia formats.

Streets

Meanwhile, the glamorous Sunset Boulevard is found south of the sign. Then there's Hollywood Boulevard itself, where you're sure to see why L.A. is known as the creative capital of the world.

Dolby, or Kodak, Theatre

For instance, the Dolby Theatre, once known as the Kodak Theatre, is found on Hollywood Boulevard. The venue is most well-known for hosting the Academy Awards since 2002, though other televised performances and events have taken place there as well.

Grauman’s Chinese Theatre

An important historical landmark on the street is Grauman's Chinese Theatre, which has hosted many film premieres since its opening in the late 1920s. The theater’s unique design makes it stand out, as do the celebrity relics found in concrete in front of the building.

Walk of Fame

The movie theater also happens to be located on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. This section of city blocks is a major Hollywood attraction and comprises over two thousand manmade stars memorializing various artists from the fields of music, film and more, on the sidewalk.

Hollywood Bowl

You’ll also find America’s biggest natural open-air venue in this district: the famous Hollywood Bowl.

Shopping and Eating

If you’d like to do some shopping or grab a bite to eat, head west. Hollywood’s Melrose community, particularly Melrose Avenue, is a popular tourist spot. If you’d like some California bistro fare, there’s Delphine Eatery and Bar on Hollywood Boulevard. Right across the street you’ll see the Pantages Theatre, which is found on the legendary intersection of Hollywood and Vine.
