10 Meme Stars Who Went to Jail

Welcome to WatchMojo, and today we’re looking at Meme Stars Who Went to Jail.

For this list, we’ll be looking at Internet personalities and sources of popular memes that ended up behind bars.

If there were a documentary made about any of these incidents, which would you watch? Let us know in the comments.

Dr. Love

This guy is living his own “Catch Me If You Can” with a series of fraudulent identities, and has gone viral doing so. Malachi Love-Robinson – more widely known as “Dr. Love” – was arrested when he was eighteen years old in 2016 for pretending to be a licensed doctor. His headshot was subsequently used as a meme template to poke fun at poor medical advice, or to laugh at the whole absurd situation itself. Love-Robinson went to jail for twenty-one months after pleading guilty to his crimes, and was charged once again in 2023 for scamming a shipping company. Old habits die hard, we suppose.

Bryce Hall

Did you know that this viral TikToker has a criminal record? Hall is known for being an Internet personality, regularly posting videos that receive millions of views apiece. He even had a stint as a boxer, fighting YouTuber Austin McBroom… and losing. But when Hall reposted a viral TikTok of his mugshot to his social media, he had folks wondering exactly what he had done. In May 2020, Hall was arrested and held in jail for marijuana possession. He was able to pay the fine and be set free the following day, and went right back to being an online superstar.

Nikita Dragun

This YouTube star is known for her makeup tutorial videos and lifestyle vlogs, having amassed over three million subscribers on her channel. But influencer Nikita Dragun got herself into trouble back in 2022 in a hotel in Miami Beach, Florida. She had allegedly been publicly unclothed by the hotel pool, and splashed a police officer with water when confronted – which led to a battery charge. She later reported to be unjustly held in a men’s correctional facility, despite being a transgender female. There was some dispute with the correctional facility about this, but Dragun was released soon after. Fans have edited and reposted her mugshot, where she blows a kiss to the camera.

Cameron Dallas

Being an Internet-famous dreamboat does not protect you from the law, apparently. Cameron Dallas had blown up online in 2012 from his viral Vine account, where he was the eleventh-most popular user on the site in 2014. Since then, he’s made appearances in film, television, he even had a role on Broadway. But in 2015, he was arrested for vandalism. Then in 2018, he was held in jail for assault after he had punched someone. The victim’s nose had been broken by the attack, but despite this Dallas was quickly able to pay the bond and be released.

Jeremy Meeks

This meme star went to jail… and then he went viral. You may not instantly recognize the name Jeremy Meeks, but you’ll definitely remember his breathtaking mugshot. Meeks was arrested in 2014 on weapons charges, and his photo was subsequently posted on Facebook by the Stockton, California police department. His good looks led to the picture being liked and reposted thousands of times, and he became a popular meme. Due to his huge fandom and online notoriety, Meeks went on to become a model after his time in prison. What a great turnaround story!

Young Busco

Back in 2015, everyone was pointing at each other’s shoes and shouting “What are those?!” This was all thanks to content creator Brandon Moore, better known as Young Busco. His viral video instantly became a huge meme, having been recited and remixed countless times. It was even quoted in the Marvel film “Black Panther.” Busco served time in jail later in 2015 for transporting a controlled substance and violating his probation, but was later released. Sadly, the Internet comedian passed away in 2018 of an accidental overdose, but will always be remembered for his sense of humor and massive cultural impact.

Andrew Tate

The openly misogynist and controversial online figure, Andrew Tate was arrested in Romania in 2022 after being investigated for trafficking. This arrest came about shortly after Tate had posted a video in response to criticism by environmentalist Greta Thunberg, in which he featured pizza boxes that reportedly indicated his geographical location. Tate has been detained and will remain so until February 27th, 2023 as of this writing. While it has since been disputed that the pizza box video was precisely what led police to Tate, the Internet churned out tons of memes about the situation.
