#5: Markiplier

We have talked a lot about wildly successful gaming YouTubers. But this one is perhaps the most versatile and the most beloved. Born Mark Edward Fischbach, Markiplier began with comedy sketches before moving to gaming. He specialized in playing indie horror games, especially Five Nights at Freddys. Whatever your view of him, Paul has over 25 million subscribers to his channel and four million to his podcast, Impaulsive. And of course, there is his brother Jake Paul, also a popular Vine-creator-turned-professional-boxer. It runs in the family.

Child YouTubers are a powerful force indeed, and this Russian-American content creator is an adorably formidable one. Kjellberg launched his channel in 2010, playing horror and action video games before eventually expanding his field. From there Kjellberg moved to make vlogs, reaction videos, comedy shorts, and even music shows. His crude humor drew criticism, including his use of racial slurs and sexist and antisemitic language. Regardless, Kjellberg has starred in many films, TV shows, music videos, and even video games. Despite the backlash and his move to Japan in a kind of soft retirement, his channel still has over 110 million subscribers. It is considered one of the most viewed of all time.

Still, no YouTuber comes close to this beast. Jimmy Donaldson uploaded his first YouTube video in 2012. Like many others, he began as a gaming YouTuber with a focus on Minecraft and Call of Duty. Since then, Donaldson has expanded into mobile games and films, but also the food industry. He even opened an actual restaurant. Regardless, Donaldsons success is staggering, winning Creator of the Year four years in a row. He was the highest-paid YouTuber in 2024 with a subscriber count of over 350 million subscribers.
