Most Anticipated Games of November 2019 | MojoPlays
VOICE OVER: Dave Thibault WRITTEN BY: Nick Spake
The best and most anticipated new games coming out in November 2019!
We know how we’re spending Thanksgiving weekend. Welcome to MojoPlays and today we’ll be counting down our picks for the Most Anticipated Games of November 2019.

For this list, we’re taking a look at games that should be on your radar for November 2019. Sadly “Doom Eternal” is out, because it’s been delayed until March 20, 2020. Well, they certainly got the “eternal” part right…

#9: “Bubble Bobble 4 Friends”
Release Date: November 19, 2019 [E.U.]

If you’ve followed me on Twitter, you’ll know how much I love Bubble Bobble. Just on my desk I have Bub & Bob display stands, a mini “My Arcade” cabinet, and even a mini cartridge on my key-ring. So take my advice; Its awesome! And this Switch exclusive ups the ante with four-player co-op. Technically, the game is only releasing in Europe this month while its North American release is slated for 2020. However, North American players can get it on the Switch digitally in November since it’s region free, you can do that by purchasing the game from the eShop with a UK account. After that, any user can play the game. It also comes with the original 1986 Arcade version included, so even it the main game sucks we’ll still have a timeless classic to play.

#8: “Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020”
Release Date: November 5, 2019

Anyone who grew up during the Console Wars will always have a hard time wrapping their head around the idea of Mario and Sonic appearing in the same game. Nevertheless, these former rivals have been making it to the Olympics ever since the 2008 Beijing games. Four years after competing in the Rio, the Red Plumber, the Blue Blur, and their colorful friends are going for the gold in Tokyo. In addition to sporting events from previous games, this Switch title includes new events like climbing, karate, skateboarding, and surfing. The game’s 2D mode is also sure to offer a fun throwback, reverting Mario back to his 8-bit form and Sonic to his 16-bit form. Is it 1991?

#7: “Need for Speed Heat”

Release Date: November 8, 2019

After the lukewarm reception to 2017’s “Payback,” “Need for Speed Heat” aims to get the racing franchise back on track. “Heat” cuts lootboxes and microtransactions out of the equation, although players can buy a “time-saver” DLC car packs to cut down grinding. Assuming these “time-savers” aren’t a major factor, though, (Please EA don’t mess this up again) “Heat” looks like a stunning open world experience with over 120 cars to rev up and customize. Rather than a traditional day and night cycle, players can now shift between day and night at will. During the day, players can earn cash by competing in racing events. Night racing, meanwhile, increases your rep as racers fend off the cops. Arriving on PC, PS4, and Xbox One, it’ll hopefully bring the heat in time for the franchise’s 25th anniversary.

#6: “Blacksad: Under the Skin”
Release Date: November 5, 2019

If you’re looking to fill the void that Telltale left behind, this interactive story game should be the cat’s meow. Based on the Spanish comic series, “Blacksad: Under the Skin” has echoes of Telltale’s “The Wolf Among Us” and “Sam & Max” trilogy. It also earns comparison to the likes of “L.A. Noire” and “Grim Fandango.” Rather than a straightforward point-and-click adventure, the game adapts to the player’s choices, which can accumulate to six potential endings. “Blacksad” has already picked up a couple accolades, including Best Action Adventure Game at the Gamescom Awards. While the Switch port reportedly isn’t coming until later in 2019, owners of all other major home consoles, as well as PC and Mac, should prepare to get in the ring.

#5: “Golem”

Release Date: November 8, 2019

In 2015, Martin O’Donnell and Jaime Griesemer of Bungie joined forces with Airtight Games co-founder Jared Noftle to form Highwire Games. Four years and numerous delays later, this independent studio is finally ready to show off their first game, “Golem.” Made specifically for the PlayStation VR headset, this virtual reality experience centers on a child named Twine, who is left incapacitated following an accident. Despite being confined to a bed, the protagonist is able to explore the outside world through a bond shared with stone golems. The game’s PS4 physical version comes with a musical prequel by O’Donnell, who previously worked on the scores for “Halo” and “Destiny.” If the hauntingly beautiful music in the game’s trailer is any indication, O’Donnell has done it again.

#4: “Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order”
Release Date: November 15, 2019

Like “Need for Speed Heat,” we admittedly have some concerns about “Fallen Order,” what with EA’s recent track record, and Dice messing up the launches of Battlefront 1 & 2. All we can say in our most desperate hour is “Help Us Respawn Entertainment, you’re our only hope”. Thankfully Respawn does have better track record as of late. And this title, which takes place not long after “Revenge of the Sith” takes a few pages from “The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker,” and “Dark Souls.” Admittedly … yes … on paper; we’d totally be down of a “Star Wars” version of Zelda. “Fallen Order” could restore balance to the Force. If not, expect PS4, Xbox One, and PC users to turn to the dark side.

#3: “Shenmue III”
Release Date: November 19, 2019

Well what do ya know? Back in 2014, we declared that it’d take a miracle for the Shenmue series to finish, but here we are, (Maybe there’s hope for the #2 entry on that list). Undoubtedly, the two biggest casualties of the Dreamcast’s failure were “Shenmue” and its 2001 sequel, both of which have been hailed as masterpieces despite not making back their money upon release. Thanks to a massively successful Kickstarter campaign, creator Yu Suzuki is finally continuing Ryo Hazuki’s story in “Shenmue III” for PS4 and PC (though the latter is an Epic Store exclusive). Suzuki isn’t the only key figure returning, as sub-director Keiji Okayasu, writer Masahiro Yoshimoto, and several other OG crew members are onboard. The team is aspiring to make this the most ambitious “Shenmue” game yet.

#2: “Pokémon Sword and Shield”

Release Date: November 15, 2019

Although “Let’s Go, Pikachu! / Eevee!” garnered respectable reviews, neither game did much to evolve the “Pokémon” franchise. “Swords and Shield,” on the other hand, seems poised to usher in the eighth generation of Pokémon in style. From a visual standpoint, the Galar region looks like one of the most detailed world we’ve ever seen in any “Pokémon” game. These Switch exclusives literally take the action to new heights with Dynamax and Gigantamax mechanics, which enable Pokémon to grow to the size of a kaiju. Not everything about “Sword and Shield” is bigger per se, as they’ll be the first main games not to feature every “Pokémon.” Which is why it failed to take the top spot.

#1: “Death Stranding”

Release Date: November 8, 2019

Ever since Hideo Kojima cut ties with Konami four years ago, we’ve been on pins and needles for his next creation. Kojima Productions’ first endeavor as an independent studio is “Death Stranding,” an open world game exclusively for the PS4. This is sure to be a star-studded event with a cast that includes Norman Reedus from “The Walking Dead,” Mads Mikkelsen from “Hannibal,” and Troy Baker from “The Last of Us,” amongst others. While the actors may be a selling point, it’s the elusive gameplay that’s made this one of 2019’s most talked about titles. Just as “Metal Gear” helped establish the stealth genre, Kojima has described “Death Stranding” as “a completely new type of action game.” Will this ambitious promise live up to the hype? We can’t wait to find out.
