10 Most Anticipated Switch Games of 2024

Welcome to MojoPlays, and today, we’re looking ahead into 2024 for the Switch games we can’t wait to play!!

“Luigi's Mansion 2 HD”

With the 3DS storefront officially shuttered in March 2023, Nintendo has left a massive selection of games stranded on the platform. However, it seems the process in bringing some of these games forward has begun. “Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon” is among the first as we’ll be getting an HD port for the Switch in the summer of 2024. Though it is considered the most contentious with its more restricted gameplay and level design, it is by no means a mediocre game. Just don’t expect anything similar to “Luigi’s Mansion 3” let alone the GameCube original. But with two of the three games now on Switch and the recent focus on porting GameCube classics to the hybrid console, perhaps “Dark Moon’s” HD enhancement signals that a port of the original game is not too far away?

“Mario vs. Donkey Kong”

“Mario vs. Donkey Kong” was among the best games anyone could play on the Game Boy Advance, with its complex puzzles and fluid controls. Unfortunately, the series did fall by the wayside in its later years with concepts that didn’t quite hold up as well. Thankfully, this long-forgotten series is making a comeback with a remake launching on February 16, 2024. Now in a fully realized form, “Mario vs. Donkey Kong” will boast updated graphics as well as proper cutscenes compared to the more slideshow style of the GBA original. On top of that, the remake will come with a co-op mode where both players will navigate the factory as Mario and Toad!

“Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown”

Regardless of how you might feel about the design of the new Prince, it’s easy for some to overlook his design and be excited about the gameplay. Indeed, “Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown” looks like an absolute blast to play! It's back to the series’ roots with side scrolling gameplay mixed with mechanics seen from the action-platformers of today. But what really has us reeled in is the unique “shadow marker” ability, which serves as a custom checkpoint. Sounds like something that’ll make the game as hard or easy as you want it to be. We’ll see if “Prince of Persia” retains its royalty when it launches January 18, 2024.

“Contra: Operation Galuga”

The last time we saw “Contra”, well, it was far from being a digestible picture. The late 2010’s was not a good year for Konami in terms of trying to redeem themselves in a post-Kojima world. These days, they’re licensing their own properties to other developers. For this new “Contra” game, WayForward, the studio behind “Shantae” and “River City Girls”, is remaking the original from top to bottom. Something tells us this could relaunch the franchise with a totally new identity and garner interest from a new audience. WayForward doesn’t put out duds, so we doubt this will be anything below decent, especially after seeing what was shown off at the Nintendo Direct in September 2023. Expect it to launch in early 2024.

“Picross S+”

“Picross” has seen some quiet success on Switch with nine collections of numbered grid puzzles available for ten bucks a pop. But what of the digitally released “Picross e”? Well, the game is no longer available due to the 3DS storefront’s closure. Luckily, these puzzles will be available on Switch sometime in 2024 in the form of “Picross S+”, which span across nine collections of puzzles sold separately for five dollars each or roughly fifty dollars altogether. Nice to see that even developer Jupiter still cares about its puzzle games!

“Tomb Raider I-III Remastered Starring Lara Croft”

This was quite the surprise to see during Nintendo’s Direct in September 2023! With “Tomb Raider” having been away since 2017’s “Shadow of the Tomb Raider”, the itch to have Lara Croft kick some butt is back. In case you missed out on the original titles, you will be able to relive the first three games on Switch with significantly updated visuals and a less sharply polygonal model of the sexy explorer. We only hope they’ve touched up the controls as well. Expect to venture through ruins once more when the horribly-titled “Tomb Raider I-III Remastered Starring Lara Croft” releases February 14, 2024.

“Cat Quest III”

In case you forgot about this one, “Cat Quest III” was first revealed during a Nintendo Direct that took place in June 2023. And it looks adorably fun! The “Cat Quest” games have been fun action-platformers that harken back to the older days of classic RPGs. This time around, the franchise is adopting a pirate theme and will allow you to set sail with a ship of your own, looting treasure and taking part in naval warfare. Sadly, we only have a general 2024 release window to go off on. Hopefully it’ll arrive in time for summer?

“Unicorn Overlord”

If the artstyle of this game with the most badass name ever looks familiar to you, then you might have played “GrimGrimoire”, “Muramasa: The Demon Blade”, “Odin Sphere”, “13 Sentinels”, or “Dragon’s Crown” at some point as this is from the same developers at Vanillaware! “Unicorn Overlord” is the team’s newest game, and dear god, it looks freakin’ incredible!! With over sixty characters to recruit and a breathtaking world to explore, we anticipate “Unicorn Overlord” will captivate anyone with an interest in tactical RPGs or fantasy-themed titles like “Fire Emblem”. We’ll be diving in when it launches on March 8, 2024.

“Princess Peach: Showtime!”

Princess Peach hasn’t had her own game since her first one on DS back in 2005, and it was just another platformer. This time around, she is getting something with more of a unique identity to separate herself from the Mario brothers. Collect costumes with unique abilities to solve puzzles, participate in minigames, and fight baddies as you attempt to save Sparkle Theater! Nintendo has only shown off a fraction of the costumes featured in the game, so better find your passion for theater fashion when “Princess Peach: Showtime!” opens its doors March 22, 2024!

“Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door”

Whereas GameCube classics “Metroid Prime” and “Pikmin” have had more straight-forward ports, “Paper Mario’s” second game, the exhilarating and fantastic “The Thousand-Year Door”, is getting a full on remake! Though we aren’t too sure on the details at the time of this video, we can see that the whole game has been rebuilt from scratch with its new textures, character models, animations, and lighting. As to when we’ll get to relive this classic, we have no idea; Nintendo has only given us a 2024 release window. The wait is already killing us.
