Since becoming an American movie star and world-famous British comedian, Ricky Gervais has been given the title of 'Hollywood's Hottest Brit,' proving that success can indeed be a person's sexiest attribute. In this video, http://www.WatchMojo.com looks at the career of this outrageous comedian.
Profile on Ricky Gervais

He’s a British comedian that made it big in America. Welcome to Watchmojo.com, today we’ll be examining the outrageous comedy career of Ricky Gervais.

Once the singer in the ill-fated 80s pop band Seona Dancing, and small-time radio broadcaster; Ricky Gervais went on to become a world recognized comedian.

Gervais’ media career began in the 90s in radio, but he truly got to explore his comedic urges during his involvement in “The 11 O’clock show”. In his skits he took on the refreshingly funny role of a half-knowledgeable bigot.

Despite this exposure, his comedic talent went largely un-noticed on the stand-up comedy circuit throughout the 90s. He only truly established his status as a top British comedian following the premiere of his British television series “The Office” in 2001, which he had co-written and directed with his friend Stephen Merchant.

The series became an overwhelming success and was trailed by his popular sitcom “Extras”, and his later radio series, “The Ricky Gervais show”. These podcasts won a Guinness world record for being the most downloaded podcasts of all time. Its popularity has been attributed to Gervais’ comedic personality, and the show’s format, which allows for games and guests to say rude words on the air.

The star power amassed by his Television success allowed him to put on several of his own stand-up comedy tours in the United Kingdom. Each tour followed a simple theme, such as Animals, Politics, Fame and Science.

These sell-out comedy tours have been characterized for their dependence on shock tactics. Many critics gave him overwhelmingly positive reviews, noting that he is too eager to offend and push the boundaries of taste. Gervais retained a willingness to say what many of us could only think. Yet, his comedic style has become increasingly criticized as self-indulgent and ego-driven. Addressing himself as the “King of Comedy”, Gervais, always takes the time to remind his audience of how many awards he has won re-enforce his star status.

Many critics believe that this is due to his successful entrance into Hollywood, which resulted in small parts in major box office hits, such as in “Night at the Museum”, which eventually led to starring roles in the comedy films, “Ghost Town” and 2009’s “The Invention of Lying”.

Interestingly, the “Animals” show inspired the creation of his best-selling children’s book series, “Flanimals”, which served as a guide to his own fictional animal creations. And since becoming an American movie star and world-famous British comedian, he has been given the title of “Hollywood’s Hottest Brit”, proving that success can be a person’s sexiest attribute.

Today, Audiences continue to be infatuated with Ricky Gervais’ rash comedic style, and many wonder if Hollywood will succeed in taming the outrageous comedian.
