Send in the divas for RuPaul's Drag Race Season 12: Meet the Queens. For this list, we're highlighting the personalities and charms of season 12's contestants of the reality competition television series. Our countdown includes Sherry Pie, Heidi N Closet, Brita, and more!
Send in the divas. Welcome to MsMojo, and today we're going to Meet the queens of RuPaul's Drag Race Season 12.
For this list, we're highlighting the personalities and charms of season 12's contestants of the reality competition television series. Though it’s strictly alphabetical, we'll be showcasing their impressive experience, distinct style and the unique talents that help each of them shine.
#1: Aiden Zhane
Cartoon style with a terrifying spin is the easiest way to sum up Aiden Zhane. And this Georgian belle uses her vertically-angled makeup to sell her unusual looks and persona. Zhane's initials play into her polarizing look, as a way to represent the far ends of the spectrum: like A to Z in the alphabet. Though she cites her more reserved nature as a worry, Aiden is boasting that her drag is unlike anything seen on "Drag Race." Plus with horror movies like "Species" inspiring her drag, Zhane definitely isn't a boring competitor.
#2: Brita
After an early theater gig as a stepsister in "Cinderella," Jesse Havea focused on drag and became Brita. She has highlighted her unfiltered energy, which might be why she's dropped Filter from her name for the show. Since Brita appeared on "Shade: Queens of NYC" and "Broad City," it was no wonder it took her one audition to get on "Drag Race." So given that she has also been performing shows in New York City up to seven times a week, this Polynesian queen has shown she’s got the chops of a top-tier competitor.
#3: Crystal Methyd
Though she's covered in pearls for her promo shoot, Missouri's Crystal Methyd insists she's a thrifty queen. Crystal also brings a DIY energy from her boy scout days, so she often designs the sets for her live shows. Her over-the-top lips are a staple of her look, so she can always stay glamorous regardless of how she feels. Methyd's addiction for accessories is endearing as well, but they can also help enhance her runway. It's this resourcefulness and a fascination with details that leaves Crystal so interesting ahead of the season premiere.
#4: Dahlia Sin
Self-described as revenge-seeking, sexy and very dramatic, Dahlia Sin has promised to keep season 12 interesting. Sin was raised as Aja's drag daughter, so she learned about frocks and makeup from the best. Though she's insisted on changing looks to spice things up, she has cited Japan and Rihanna as constant influences. Despite some troubling comments about past seasons, Sin hasn't pushed a season villain narrative. Dahlia's drag name on the other hand was picked to embrace a love of evil deeds, and the dark brand of beauty she's flaunted so well.
#5: Gigi Goode
At just 21, Gigi Goode is season 12's youngest queen, but she already brings six years of experience to the table. While she's promising great singing and dancing, her Instagram suggests that she has the upper hand for all the modeling challenges. Between her mother's costumes and some drag-parenting from Detox, Goode is coming from strong roots. Gigi's moniker is alternatively a play on a bit of TV horror and her real name. Goode somehow melds this all into a drag that manages to be self-mocking as well.
#6: Heidi N Closet
Ramseur, North Carolina offered more farm animals than entertainers for Heidi N Closet to watch. For her, drag started through a love of performing. Her name comically came from the otherwise closeted men she attracted back home. Along with her shows, Closet has held multiple Rainbow Brunches to support charities and bolster the LGBTQ+ community. And Heidi has rallied her own fans by celebrating their art amongst her Instagram posts. But ahead of the show, she's already dropped enough catchphrases to impress herself as much as viewers.
#7: Jackie Cox
From "Star Trek" to musical theater, Jackie Cox is a New York City queen that truly blends all the culture of the city. This ties into Jackie's looks, which she uses to tell a story rather than just looking glam. While she's the season's only Canadian queen, she's also the first contestant of Iranian descent in "Drag Race" herstory. Cox is afraid of the outlandish style that the show demands, but her camp and geeky influences balance things out. Besides, her goal of inspiring the Middle Eastern drag community is commendable in itself.
#8: Jaida Essence Hall
While Jaida Essence Hall is a Milwaukee queen herself, she received her drag education from Chicago's Tajma Hall. This family connection to Dida Ritz and Mercedes Iman Diamond has certainly fueled Jaida's competitive spirit from pageants right to "Drag Race." While her fashion designs have set expectations high for design challenges, this creative talent has given Jaida an outlet to model. Hall has earned great lip sync credentials through half-time shows back home too. After she left the producers laughing in her promo, it was clear that humor was key to her appearance on season 12.
#9: Jan
With a gruffer voice and hair that waves for days, Jan is bringing New Jersey flavor to New York drag. Jan has been featured on Cosmo and Refinery29, so she is already turning heads beyond her season. Music is a pillar of her shows, with live singing and looks derived from pop stars. Though Jan may be dropping Sport from her name for "Drag Race," her abbreviated moniker gives her and RuPaul a "Brady Bunch" connection. And since she is Alexis Michelle's drag-daughter, it's practically Jan's birthright to compete.
#10: Nicky Doll
Between travel and plenty of immigration paperwork, Nicky Doll has done a lot of work to be the first French competitor on "Drag Race." Her commitment has already shown how badly she wants the crown, but she's also done magazine shoots to prove her talent. Doll's last name originated from her shifting personalities, which have helped her merge anime with vintage fashion. And she's toiled away as a makeup artist long enough to pull this style off. It was Doll's heartwarming take on the show's self-love message however, that helped Doll win our hearts.
#11: Rock M. Sakura
Where other queens are inspired by Japanese culture, Rock M. Sakura is utterly obsessed with it. This gives her style A LOT of color and unusual combinations of clothes. As a staple of the San Francisco drag community, Sakura is also used to turning out routines every night. But she's not afraid to model a little out of drag. Appearances aside, her extensive performances means she can kick high and hit the floor like the best of them. There's also just enough dirty humor in the mix to keep her banter hilarious.
#12: Sherry Pie
Just like her wacky personality, Sherry Pie's name is rooted in trying to be colorful but funny at the same time. Sherry is all about going insane with her drag, to the point that some of her looks cross into spooky territory. Her jokes are rich with dry humor and sly references to pop culture from across the board. Pie is already a big deal, with magazine profiles, Pride hosting gigs and even a theatrical turn as Edna in "Hairspray" to her name. No matter what you like, you'll want a taste of Sherry Pie.
#13: Widow Von'Du
If you need a high-energy queen that can inspire everyone to push boundaries, look no further than Widow Von'Du. A Kansas City local, Von'Du mixes modest sensibilities with a high-class taste in fabrics. Her name mixes some self-aware humor with a passion for ink and great music. Widow is unabashed in her performances and emphasizes a loud personality more than anything else. So don't underestimate Von'Du's lack of social media presence, because she has the drive to wipe the floor with the competition.
