Wes Anderson is no stranger to whimsical filmmaking. His movies are chock-full with perfectly centered framing and his unique use of over-the-top colour pallets. He is however, a stranger to the genre of filmmaking he intends to tackle in his next film. According to French publication Charente Libre, the American filmmaker will for the first time, direct a musical set in a post-World War II France. Charente Libre also writes that Anderson in eyeing the community of Angoulême for filming with his production team already scouting for locations and putting together the set décor. Unfortunately not much is known about the production, and no news has been released on who Anderson might be looking to cast. However, it may be safe to assume that frequent Anderson collaborators could find their names on the cast list. We’re not quite confident enough to venture any guesses, though.
Production may have only started on Monday, but that hasn’t stopped Disney from releasing a first look image of the live action production of Mulan. The image showcases star Liu Yifei donning traditional Chinese clothing, standing in an aggressive fighting stance while holding a sword complete with Chinese symbols. Yifei plays the titular Mulan, who disguises herself as a man in order to keep her elderly father from joining the army. Jet Li also stars in the film as the emperor of China and actors Donnie Yen and Gong Li will play Commander Tung and a villainous witch, respectively. The live action film is a remake of the popular 1998 animated Mulan which starred Ming-Na Wen as Mulan, as well as BD Wong as Captain Li Shang, and Eddie Murphy as Mushu.
Before we get to our number one entry, here are a couple new releases:
“Alpha” (2018)
“Mile 22” (2018)
Sorry about that, but now you know the fear hundreds, if not thousands of YouTube viewers felt when this horrific ad crept into their playlists. The Warner Brothers’ marketing team has been putting out terrifying trailers and ads for the upcoming Conjuring installment, The Nun. But their latest ad, which played before certain videos, has spooked many YouTube users into action. After a number of complaints that the ad was too scary, YouTube removed it from their ads list, stating it as a violation of their “shocking content policy.” “We value diversity and respect for others, and we strive to avoid offending or shocking users with ads,” YouTube said in a statement. So, how did we get a hold of this ad then, you ask? It has since been re-uploaded to the platform by users, this time with trigger warnings. The Nun, which follows a priest and a novitiate investigating a haunted abbey, is set for release September 7th.
