#3: James Wan Will Not Direct Newly Approved “The Conjuring 3”
The Conjuring universe continues to spread its darkness. After approving several Conjuring spinoffs like The Nun, Annabelle: Creation and most recently The Crooked Man, New Line Cinema has summoned even more demonic possessions with the announcement of a third installment to the original storyline; The Conjuring 3. While continuing the franchise is a no-brainer considering its tremendous success, fans were left scratching their heads when franchise runner James Wan declined to direct. Wan, who has directed the two previous films, received widespread acclaim from fans and critics alike, but will only be serving as a producer for The Conjuring 3, with no replacement director named yet. Wan’s role isn’t the only big shakeup the film will see, however. While there is no synopsis yet, producer Peter Safran did say that paranormal investigators The Warren’s, would not be investigating another haunted house and would instead go in a new direction.

If you were a fan of Jake Gyllenhaal’s terrifying turn in the neo-noir thriller Nightcrawler, then you’re in luck. Gyllenhaal, Rene Russo and Nightcrawler director Dan Gilroy have reunited to work on a new film that has the movie industry already buzzing. Deadline first reported that the script - which focuses on a story based in the art world - was making the rounds in Hollywood and started a giant bidding war between production houses. In the end, the film landed with Netflix, who continue their gigantic surge into high-end, dramatic original films. The streaming giant recently had two films play at the Cannes Film Festival for the first time: Noah Baumbach’s The Meyerowitz Stories and Bong Joon-ho’s Okja, which Gyllenhaal also stars in. Fans will get to see the film on Netflix, but also have the chance to view it on the big screen, with the film being given a small, award-qualifying theatrical release. James Cameron is no stranger to technological advancements in cinema. His sci-fi epic Avatar was a breakthrough in 3D technology, which landed him Oscar wins for Best Visual Effects, Cinematography and Art Direction. While his long-awaited sequels have lost some interest in the public eye, the iconic filmmaker looks to bring some back after the announcement that Avatar 2 may be shown not just in 3D, but glasses-free 3D. According to Inquisitr, Cameron's Lightstorm Entertainment has been working with company Christie Digital in order to master a technology called RGB laser projection systems. The breakthrough is said to provide audiences with crystal clear and sharp images with extremely high frame rates, which they hope will completely eliminate the need for wonky 3D glasses. While the concept seems like a game changer, Peter Jackson's Hobbit films also used a high frame rate of 48fps, which many moviegoers disliked. Will Avatar 2 fall under the same scrutiny?
