Top 10 Anime Girls Who Broke The Internet

Top 10 Anime Girls Who Broke The Internet
VOICE OVER: Ashley Bowman WRITTEN BY: Alex Crilly-Mckean
The power of waifus compels you! Join Ashley as he counts down the ladies of anime that were too hot for fans to handle, as seen in such hit series as "Re;Zero", "Darling in the Franxx", "Sailor Moon", "Future Diary", "Kaguya-sama", and more!

#10: Chika Fujiwara

“Kaguya-sama: Love is War” (2019-)
Kaguya may have a razor-sharp tongue and be caught in the midst of the most hilariously heart-warming romance of the modern anime age…but she’s got nothing on Chika and her mad dance moves. Dominating the ending credits, the air-headed member of the Student Council breaks into one hell of a well-choreographed sequence with some superbly fluid animation, one that caught the internet by storm and inspired numerous copycats along the way. But let’s be real, much like her sick bars, only Chika can pull off Chika!

#9: Mirko

“My Hero Academia” (2016-)
Manga readers already know what’s up, but for anime onlys, the reveal of this particular bunny was a very welcome shock to the system. We’ve seen no shortage of playboy aesthetics across the medium, but this might be the first time we’ve seen a female hero who makes the big ears and revealing attire look positively badass. Throw in all the muscle and her fiery personality, and what little screen time she got during her debut was more than enough to make a monumental impact with fans.

#8: Yuno Gasai

“Future Diary” (2011-12)
There are many yanderes out there, but only one of them has a face that was plastered all over the web! Not to surprisingly since Yuno’s murderous, psychotic antics were the best thing about such a substandard show, with her pinnacle moment being when she scares the shit out of Yuki by revealing her now iconic expression – a mingling of utter devotion and insanity. As such, it wasn’t long until her money shot was re-edited, captioned and paraded everywhere for all to see in countless contexts.

#7: Zero Two

“Darling in the Franxx” (2018)
She’s got the visage of a sultry temptress, a backstory that will leave you broken-hearted, and the way in which she goes from a wild animal to melancholy waifu with her beloved Hiro will warm your soul. It’s easy to see why Zero Two became a household name overnight. What we didn’t expect was the impact she’s had on the cosplay scene. Much like Asuka before here, there just seems to be something about a long-haired, beautiful mecha pilot in a skin-tight red costume that fans can’t resist. The number of e-girls alone who tried to copy her look was staggering.

#6: Sailor Moon

“Sailor Moon” (1992-96)
We all know Usagi is the face of one of the shojo genre’s most recognisable superheroine squads, winning love, fighting evil, all that good stuff. It just so happens that said face caused a resurgence of popularity due to the “Redraw Sailor Moon Challenge”, where fans and artists alike put their spin on a still-shot of the classic series. Some were loving in their recreation of the Sailor-Senshi’s features, while others went out of their way to go far outside the box with hilarious results.

#5: Konata Izumi

“Lucky Star” (2007)
Hilarity often comes in small, adorable packages, and it seems most of the internet agreed when it decided to turn this Haruhi Suzumiya loving lady into their mascot for all their shit-posts! Seriously, take a trip down memory lane as far as MAD videos and anime memes are concerned and you’ll find Konata at the centre, imitating the SOS Brigade dance routine every step of the way. How did such a chill girl bring about a miniature online revolution just by living out her daily life and occasionally closing her eyes?

#4: Hestia

“Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon?” (2015-)
By herself, Hestia has all the divine voluptuousness you could ever want. With a sweet face, devotion to her darling Bell and plenty of waifu game going on. Why wouldn’t you swear fealty to her then and there? And the thing that cracked the mainstream was her wardrobe. Not due to the tightness or the strategically placed tears, rather her signature ribbon – the one seems to serve no other purpose than to elevate her abundant cleavage to greater heights. Yep, that became a fashion trend for a while.

#3: Nico Yazawa

“Love Live!” (2013-14)
Don’t make us say it. We only just got it out our heads. Please don’t put the meme back in our brains! (Que Nico Nico Ni) Ah damn it. Yes, for all her singing and cutesy quirks, the one thing that Nico will go down in history for is this single infamous line. It’s as cheesy, sparkly and innocent as anything else an idol has said, and yet for some reason Nico inspired an entire culture movement around this one piece of dialogue. How so? Well, not only did it start to pop up all over the internet, but it wasn’t long until the remixes came along.

#2: Rem

“Re;Zero – Startling Life in Another World” (2016)
While you could technically say that this much-cherished oni was just one part of a waifu war that nearly destroyed all anime fandom, she’s undoubtedly the spark that set thigs off. While she had no problem slaying her enemies and even offed Subaru in one timeline, Rem’s enormous heart ended up captivating everyone, which made her subsequent confession and rejection all the more painful when the resident isekaier chose to give his love to Emilia instead. Seriously, the battlelines that were drawn as a result were monumental, to the point where sure some will go to their graves declaring Rem best girl.

#1: MeMeMe

“MeMeMe” (2014)
It was only a matter of time before this animated phenomenon caught fire. Visually, it’s stunning, with psychedelic imagery constantly hammering at the screen, most of which contain MeMeMe throwing her illustrious derriere around. Audibly, the music is pounding and the electronic sound likely found its way onto a lot of playlists. Symbolically, you’ve got a short yet potent plot that wordlessly shows how someone’s fascination and obsession with fandom, erotica and fictional characters can ruin real-life relationships if left unchecked. No matter how you spin it, MeMeMe, for a time, had the world around her finger.
