#10: Rie Takahashi

If you’re in need of shining a little sunshine on your soul, then you’d need to only cast a glance over to this actor’s line of work. Very much a super star of the modern anime scene, Miss Takahashi has demonstrated that there is no waifu she cannot inhabit and breathe life into. Mash Kyrielight from Fate/Grand Order and Emilia from Re:Zero are proof enough…but there’s also the fact she’s the de facto voice of KonoSuba’s very own Megumin. Bow before your mistress of explosions!

#9: Takehito Koyasu

Defining an entire generation’s worth of anime villains, if you want a memorable bad guy, this is the man you turn to! While he’s certainly played some standout leads across his career (he is the voice of BoBoBo after all) the quality of the antagonists that Mr Koyasu has brought to the forefront remain unsurpassed. From minor henchmen like Luke Valentine from Hellsing, all the way to major players such as Roswall from Re:Zero and Takasugi from Gintama. Of course, we can’t leave out his two defining performances – Zeke Jaeger from Attack on Titan, and Dio from JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure. You just can’t top them!

#8: Yuki Kaji

An impressive list of diverse roles or shounen bingo? You be the judge! Being the voice of both Koichi from Diamond is Unbreakable and Todoroki from My Hero Academia earned himself VIP status. Then we get into the sliding scales of morality, with him bringing life to the likes of Meliodas from The Seven Deadly Sins. Pretty impressive right? Well, it gets better, since for as good Mr Kaji is at playing nice guys, he excels as a bad boy, as Eren from Attack on Titan more than proves!

#7: Daisuke Ono

We’d know that thunderous, booming voice anywhere. One does not simply forget the sound of Jotaro Kujo’s Yare Yare Daze. Portraying arguably the most iconic and influential among JoJo Bizarre’s Adventure incredible roster, Mr Ono’s Ora Ora Ora-ing alone could have made the cut. It just so happens he’s also responsible for voicing other larger than life characters such as the force of nature that is Durarara’s Shizuo, Black Butler’s ever perfect butler Sebastian, and humanity’s greatest commander in the form of Attack on Titan’s Ewin Smith. Stand and salute!

#6: Rie Kugimiya

You don’t earn the nickname of The Queen of Tsundere without voicing some of the medium’s most adorably spicy ladies. While Miss Kugimiya has certainly lived up to the moniker thanks to her roles as Taiga in Toradora, Kagura in Gintama and Louise in Familiar of Zero, it’s her performances as male characters that have really earned her acclaim. She is, after all, the voice of Alphonse Elric from both the original Fullmetal Alchemist as well as Brotherhood. And lest we forget her role as the adorable Happy in Fairy Tail!

#5: Jun Fukuyama

There seems to be a running theme with this man’s most notable roles. They’re either dripping in swag or they know how to hit you right in the feels. And on rare occasions do both. Koro-sensei from Assassination Classroom made every fan laugh and weep simultaneously. Black Buter’s Grell Sutcliff is the most iconic, androgynous, chainsaw wielding death dealer around. Persona 5’s Joker is the definition of cool even out of his Metaverse jacket. But they all pale when compared to anime’s greatest anti-hero – Lelouch vi Britannia! We can’t give Mr Fukuyama enough credit for elevating such a complex and morally dubious icon!

#4: Tomokazu Sugita

He voiced Gintoki. He’s the voice of the silver samurai, with all of the wild comedy and dark drama that comes with him. While you could say it’s a career defining role, Mr Sugita seems to have taken it as a personal challenge, and as such gone on to voice equally incredible characters that together have broken the internet a dozen times over. Kyon from Haruhi Suzumiya was the ultimate cynical bastard, Escanor from The Seven Deadly Sins was the most well-groomed badass in recent memory, and even today he’s killing it with roles like Rudeus in Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation. Oh, and he’s also Joseph Joestar. No biggie.

#3: Mamoru Miyano

Behold the voice of one of the industry’s most diverse and dedicated leading men! Portraying the likes of Dazai from Bungo Stray Dogs and Tsukiyama from Tokyo Ghoul would be extraordinary enough given their enduring legacy. But it just keeps going. Benimaru from Fire Force; uncompromising badass. Kotaro from Zombie Land Saga; too funny for words. Setsuna from Gundam 00; the best Gundam protagonist since Amuro. Anyone of these would be a headline for other voice actors, and yet they’re a drop in bucket next to these two juggernauts that Mr Miyano brought to life. Rintaro Okabe from Steins;Gate and Light Yagami from Death Note. What a legend.

#2: Kana Hanazawa

This lady is absolutely killing it and shows no sign of slowing down! As the cool, calm and hopelessly naïve Akane in Psycho-Pass, as well as the beautifully innocent Mayuri in Steins;Gate, Miss Hanazawa has established herself as sci-fi anime royalty. For every tender flower like Nisekoi’s Onodera, there’s a ravenous Rize from Tokyo Ghoul, optimistic Hinata from March Comes in Like a Lion, and withdrawn Kuroneko from Oreimo. If we had to pick one role that solidifies her greatness, it would be Nadeko from the Monogatari franchise. Now that’s a monster of a character.

Before we reveal our number one pick, here are a LOT of honourable mentions!

Fumihiko Tachiki

Aoi Yūki

Romi Park

Miyuki Sawashiro

Saori Hayami

Nobuhiko Okamoto

Takahiro Sakurai

#1: Hiroshi Kamiya

This just isn’t fair. How is it possible for one person to have so many badasses under his belt? As Levi Ackerman from Attack on Titan, our man gave us an uncompromising beast of a character that continues to enthral. But that’s just the tip of the iceberg. Akashi from Kuroko’s Basketball, Trafalgar Law from One Piece, Izaya from Durarara, Araragi from Monogatari, it just never ends. Oh, and he’s also funny as all hell, as his role as Saiki K more than proves. Damn you Kamiya, stop being so endearingly talented!
