Top 10 Best Boy Band Music Videos

Top 10 Best Boy Band Music Videos
VOICE OVER: Rebecca Brayton WRITTEN BY: Andy Hammersmith
Everybody loves a music video. Welcome to MsMojo, and today we're counting down our picks for the most iconic and endlessly re-watchable videos in the boy band canon. Our countdown includes "Bye Bye Bye," "Butter," "Steal My Girl," and more!

#10: “I Want It That Way” (1999)
Backstreet Boys

For this video, the Boys decide to dance their way around Los Angeles International Airport. It’s an oddly compelling location that offers up some stellar shots. Blink-182 even parodied the setting for “All the Small Things,” helping to extend the legacy of this piece. As tons of adoring fans cheer them on, the charismatic group draws the audience in with their performances. Even if you’re watching the video ironically, you might still come away a fan. While they have many other impressive videos, this one keeps us coming back with its classy execution.

#9: “Back for Good” (1995)
Take That

Fans of British boy bands will likely remember this soulful hit. The chic video manages to tread the line between heartfelt and melodramatic, featuring some cinematic scenes on a studio backlot. The perpetual rain gives the entire concept an added flair – without messing up the lead singer’s perfect hair. The talented band tries out some dance moves in the poor conditions, with slow-motion giving them a movie star-quality. You can enjoy this as a genuine statement about love or just an excuse to watch some soggy boys flaunt their memorable choreography.

#8: “Because of You” (1998)
98 Degrees

Compared to other 90s boy bands, 98 Degrees might be considered underrated. “Because of You” functions like a beautiful travelog of San Francisco. The band appears in all kinds of locations as the main character travels around, popping up on billboards, bus stops, and taxi top ads. The singers pose in a field and on a beach in this entertaining and surprising journey. There isn’t really a big story here – just some boys singing their hearts out around San Fran. You even get to watch them perform on the Golden Gate Bridge in unforgettable and sweeping shots of the famous structure.

#7: “Steal My Girl” (2014)
One Direction

You could describe this video as sensory overload. Shot in a desert, the brightly colored scenes feature sumo wrestlers, ribbon dancers, a marching band, wild animals … and is that Danny DeVito? The comic legend plays the role of the video’s director and charges the boys with creating a new artistic vision. We think it’s safe to say they succeeded, since this video stands out even more than the band’s other classics, like “What Makes You Beautiful.” The finale features each artist coming together with the boys in an extravagant scene under the rain.

#6: “End of the Road” (1992)
Boyz II Men

As one of the great R&B songs of the decade, “End of the Road” already has a lot going for it. But the video makes the track that much more special. The group’s color-coded outfits and accessories are peak-nineties – they’ll make you nostalgic for the era even if you didn’t live through it. Every member is giving it their all in this moody plea to reunite with their partner. They each carry so much emotion in their visual performances that the lyrics sound even more impactful. Don’t be surprised if you actually shed a tear while watching this class act.

#5: “Butter” (2021)
BTS

The best K-pop videos deliver cool visuals and capture the personality of each singer. “Butter” does all this to perfection, beating out even the group’s other major hit, “Dynamite.” BTS are all confidence, dancing on various sets with eye-popping colors. They also get to wear sleek suits in scenes set in black and white, which give parts of the piece a film-like quality. The group rocks out in a gymnasium and an elevator as they show off their best moves. All of this builds to the flashy climax featuring some awesome lighting designs. The charisma of every bandmate is on full display in this high energy spectacle.

#4: “Fantastic Baby” (2012)
BigBang

Critically acclaimed and hugely successful, this EDM single also has a standout video. The elaborate sequences combine sci-fi elements and post-apocalyptic imagery into a visual feast. The video transitions from one bizarre scene to another, where the BigBang members perform in wild costumes surrounded by rioters in masks. The ensemble then comes together for a dance finale set to an intense beat. At every turn, “Fantastic Baby” pushes the envelope with its unusual story and eye-popping imagery. The song is infectious, and the video is both highly entertaining and truly artistic.

#3: “Bye Bye Bye” (2000)
*NSYNC

This song was everywhere in the early 2000s. In one of their most iconic moments, Justin, Joey, Lance, Chris, and JC appear as marionettes being controlled by someone else. The unusual setup lends itself to some unique choreography. The singers also appear in various action sequences where they find themselves pursued by their jilted lover. From trains to cars, this effort rivals the production value of Hollywood cinema. Another NSYNC hit, “It’s Gonna Be Me,” also sees the boys portrayed as inanimate objects come to life, this time as dolls rather than puppets. But “Bye Bye Bye” was easily the group’s most memorable video.

#2: “You Got It (The Right Stuff)” (1988)
New Kids on the Block

They started the boy band revolution. This 1988 single features the boys driving around town, clowning around in a cemetery, and busting out a few sick moves in between. Their trademark dance might just be their most classic, as they shuffle their feet in perfect rhythm. The five guys prove that they have all the skills to wow audiences. Not only that, they do it all in slick black and white. They’re no stranger to fantastic videos either, as they later turned in energetic work on “Step By Step.” The video is quintessentially eighties and yet, somehow, timeless.

#1: “Everybody (Backstreet’s Back)” (1997)
Backstreet Boys

In one of the more stylish videos of its era, the boys find themselves at a spooky old mansion after their ride breaks down. Taking inspiration from classic horror and even Michael Jackson’s “Thriller,” it might put you in the mood to watch a scary movie. The video features some fantastic costumes, nods to famous monsters, and a massive dance number. While it might be the best video for Halloween, it’s also an entertaining watch all year round. You can’t go wrong with superb set design and a fun concept that’s campy in all the right ways. “Larger than Life” comes in a close second with a remarkably similar video, this time with a sci-fi theme.
