  This acoustic powerhouse of a song managed to resonate with people on a global scale, and is undoubtedly the most successful track off the band’s seventh studio album. Chad Kroeger’s vocals deliver both an empowering message of hope, as well as an emotional plea to unite under a banner of compassion and unity. Nickelback is no stranger to pointing out the various issues that come with our modern society, but with such an uplifting sound surrounding it, the song’s meaning becomes especially poignant.      

  Brimming with themes of salvation and second chances, this song was one of the bands earliest gems, showing that when they went all out with their creativity, they could actually make a damn good power-ballad. Chad Kroeger and Ryan Peake’s vocals manage to capture a sense of desperation bordering on the edge of hopelessness, while acoustic guitars softly serenade listeners, only to have a hard-hitting guitar solo rip out the rug from under them. Did we mention this song has quite the cinematic music video?      

  Ah, nothing like a song that deals with the classic trope of broken relationships and all the heartbreak that comes with it. Playing to their strengths, Kroeger emphasises the pain and regret felt in such a breakup with plenty of far-reaching vocals and rugged guitar riffs to assuage your angst. Yeah, many like to make a joke about this track in particular, but then again it did manage to soar to the top of the Canadian Hot 100 Chart while also breaking into the US and UK’s own top tens. Someday, you just have to admit this song was a hit.

  As it happens, Nickelback are pretty prone to coming up with inspiring tracks with clear messages. Aimed directly at the listener, ”If Today Was Your Last Day” is filled with positive meaning and intention backed up by an ever so catchy acoustic tune, and Chad Kroeger seems pretty determined to act as our life coach all throughout. Though when he comes up with a song like this, we’re inclined to listen to what he has to say, and from the way the rest of the world reacted to the track, so were they.

The premise for the song is pretty simple: getting blindly drunk and going absolutely wild. An arena anthem that will make you want to reach for the nearest glass of booze you can find, this is Nickelback rock at its finest. Who’s up for another drink?    


  The lyrics were infectious as hell, the subject matter in question was so ridiculous it was downright brilliant, and the music video had all of us laughing our asses off. Taking the perspective of a dejected individual who dreams of a materialistic life as a rock star, we’re greeted to a whole slew of ridiculously cliché scenarios, made all the better when you see members of the public and various celebrities lip-syncing the song in the official video.
