Top 10 Best Super Bowl Commercials of the Decade So Far

Welcome to WatchMojo, and today we’re counting down our picks for the greatest Super Bowl brand commercials of the decade so far, from 2020 until 2024, that left a lasting impression on the audience.

#10: Floating QR Code (2022)

Coinbase
Back in the days of yore, we would turn on our DVD players, wait until the screensaver kicked in, and spend hours watching the logo bounce around the black screen due to rumors of the logo perfectly hitting a corner. Those were the days. Anyway, in 2022, the cryptocurrency company Coinbase cashed in on the nostalgia with their version. Instead of the DVD logo, they had a QR code ricocheting about, which led people to an offer of free Bitcoin for signing up with the company. This simple commercial caused the audience to go crazy for it. So many people scanned the code, resulting in over 20 million hits in 1 minute, that it caused the Coinbase app to crash!

#9: Sesame Street Sing-Song (2021)

DoorDash
If you were to list the most iconic songs from “Sesame Street,” “The People in Your Neighborhood” would be high up there. All about those residing in the neighborhood and the jobs they do, DoorDash decided to pay homage to it in 2021. With “Hamilton” star Daveed Diggs as the leading human, he takes Big Bird around the street, promoting supporting local businesses with the delivery service. After starting with the familiar song, Diggs makes it his own with a rap version as famous “Sesame Street” residents pop up. On top of the nostalgia, the modern take, and the catchy beat, the commercial also mentioned that DoorDash would donate $1 from every order to the nonprofit organization Sesame Workshop.

#8: Making Memory Room (2024)

Uber Eats
Not settling for one celebrity, Uber Eats went all out for their Super Bowl commercial in 2024. The premise involves the saying that to remember something, people have to forget something else. This is due to someone wanting to remember that Uber Eats also delivers groceries. Famous faces pop up in funny skits that involve them forgetting key moments of their careers. We have the Beckhams forgetting about the Spice Girls, Jelly Roll and his face tattoos, Usher’s Super Bowl halftime show, and average folks getting involved. But the biggest was Jennifer Aniston forgetting who David Schwimmer is and that they worked together on “Friends.” The company also released smaller commercials with their celebs that also played into the forgetting concept and viral moments.

#7: Alexa's New Body (2021)

Amazon
Amazon’s Alexa has been a success when it comes to crafting Super Bowl commercials. After all, in 2018, they did one about the virtual assistant losing her voice, bringing famous faces to step in with hilarious scenarios. Well, in 2021, they knocked it out of the park again. Promoting the new-look Alexa, one of the staff stated she couldn’t imagine a more beautiful vessel for it until she spotted an advertisement for Michael B. Jordan’s “Without Remorse,” which was distributed by Amazon Studios. Then, we watch a series of skits with Alexa B. Jordan living with the woman. She melts whenever she interacts with him, all while her husband is ignored. Unsurprisingly, it was that year’s most-watched Super Bowl commercial on social media.

#6: New Musical Neighbors (2023)

T-Mobile
In 2022, “Scrubs” stars Zach Braff and Donald Faison[a] reignited their on-screen bromance to do a T-Mobile Super Bowl commercial that parodied “West Side Story”’s “I Feel Pretty.” The following year, with musical theater numbers still coursing through the creators, the duo teamed up with their new T-Mobile neighbor, John Travolta, who was struggling with his broadband. This perfectly set the trio up to parody Travolta’s iconic song “Summer Nights” from “Grease,” with the brand’s home internet service. With throwback poses, dance moves, and the famous melody, fans of “Scrubs” and “Grease” both got to celebrate. Plus, the song is just irresistibly catchy.

#5: Bad Decisions Through the Ages (2022)

FTX
The 2022 Super Bowl was a boon for cryptocurrency companies. The most intricate commercial, hands down, goes to FTX. Armed with Larry David, they took us on a trip down history lane. David played various characters, or one immortal one, who is shown various major inventions throughout history. However, the “Curb Your Enthusiasm” star dismisses the creations and concepts with brutal and hilarious comebacks, including the wheel, the Declaration of Independence, and the light bulb. In the end, someone showcases FTX to David, telling him it’s a safe way to get into crypto, which he ignores. Weirdly, this would be accurate as the company collapsed that same year due to fraud.

#4: Loretta (2020)

Google
Not all of memorable Super Bowl commercials tickle the funny bone. Sometimes, they make us feel other emotions. In 2020, Google released an advertisement that had a man looking on the search site for how to not forget. Throughout, he talks to the company’s virtual assistant about his wife, Loretta, who’s heavily implied to have passed away. As well as getting it to display photos of Loretta and her favorite film, the man asks the assistant to remember various facts about her. Google notes each time and later shows him all the incidents throughout the years. With a touching scenario and simple somber piano music, the commercial really resonated with its audience, especially as the story was based on that of the grandfather of a Google employee, whose voice is heard throughout the ad.

#3: Michael Cera's CeraVe (2024)

CeraVe
One of the acting world’s most underrated comedy talents, Cera was bound to be a success with whatever Super Bowl commercial he starred in. However, to make it even more special, he was paired with the similarly named company CeraVe. Parodying pretentious luxury brand advertisements, Cera implies he created the skincare company as he gives himself a massage, walks through thin sheets, and chats to a unicorn dolphin. By the end, we see the actor is showcasing the commercial to the CeraVe board, who aren’t too pleased he’s claiming credit for something he wasn’t involved in. The L'Oréal-owned brand has quickly become one of the bestselling skincare companies, which this Cera ad may or may not have had a role in.

#2: The Jason Alexander Hoodie (2021)

Tide
In 2021, with a brief video, “Seinfeld” star Alexander looks at a ridiculous hoodie of his face being sold online. This was all to tease what was to come at the Super Bowl from Tide. In the main event, a mother tells her son to wash his Jason Alexander hoodie. After he states it looks clean and she doubts that assessment, we see the apparel getting into a host of gross situations. Throughout it, the face on the hoodie changes to match the situation. The actor even cameos as himself at the end as he demands his face back. To make the expressions, Alexander had to take hundreds of photos as the director gave orders on Zoom, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

#1: Breaking Snacks (2023)

Popcorners
Since the acclaimed series ended in 2013, Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul have reprised their iconic “Breaking Bad” roles of Walter White and Jesse Pinkman in the film “El Camino,” on “Better Call Saul,” and…in a 2023 Super Bowl commercial for Popcorners. The duo recreates some of the series’ iconic scenes and catchphrases. But instead of making their trademark illegal substance in the motorhome, the science duo creates corn chips. The ad even brought back Raymond Cruz’s to produce even more outstanding work as the unhinged, tight, tight, tight crime lord, Tuco Salamanca. While Paul has claimed this would be the last “Breaking Bad” team-up with Cranston, who knows which snack brand might entice them back for another Super Bowl commercial in the future…

Are there any Super Bowl commercials that we missed that you think deserves a spot in the video? Jeep’s 2020 “Groundhog Day” with Bill Murray? Seth Rogen and Paul Rudd reminiscing about Lays chips in 2022? Or something else? Let us know in the comments!
