Top 10 Best YouTube Channels of 2020
VOICE OVER: Phoebe de Jeu WRITTEN BY: Mandy Anne Lutman
These channels lit up the internet in 2020. For this list, we'll be looking at some of YOUR favorite YouTube channels that you've been watching in 2020, chosen through our poll. Our countdown includes jacksfilms, penguinz0, MrBeast Gaming, and more!

#10: BeastBoyShub

Beast Boy Shub — or Shubham Saini to his fam — is a very popular Indian gamer, with his channel attracting more than 4 million subscribers. Not only does he play some of the most popular games in the community, he also interacts with his followers by reacting to hilarious memes through his ForShub hashtag. Some of his most popular offerings have accumulated more than 10 million views, with his Granny video remaining one of the most beloved ones. The best way to describe BBS’s channel and his way of playing is 5% horror, 95% screaming.

#9: jacksfilms

You might know him as Jacksfilms but his real name is John Patrick Douglass. His online career started way back in 2006 and he eventually rocketed to millions of views per video. Over the years, he experimented with various formats and skits to keep his audience entertained, and in 2011 he launched the “Your Grammar Sucks” series. Criticizing the grammar of YouTube comments proved to be a huge success and in 2013, the Jacksfilms channel reached 1 million subscribers. Other popular series on his channel include “JackAsk” and “Yesterday I Asked You,” both reaching a high and loyal viewership.

#8: Marques Brownlee (MKBHD)

Former Google VP Vic Gundotra once called him the best technology reviewer on the planet. Marques has been uploading technology videos since 2009 - and ten years later, he reached over 10 million subscribers on YouTube. He covers a wide range of tech gadgets, thoroughly reviews them, and provides his own, honest, entertaining opinion. Some of his most popular videos have over 15 million views and there seems to be no signs of stopping. Being a gadget reviewer allowed Marques to be among the first to try new tech, and work with some amazing companies and some pretty awesome A-listers.

#7: OverSimplified

Let’s face it, some things are just far too complicated to be explained and ain’t nobody got time for that. This is where Oversimplified comes in. The channel, and its semi-anonymous creator, has been making videos since 2016 and has covered a wide range of topics, and continues to gain popularity among visual learners...which is pretty much all of us. The animated videos make it extremely easy for students to remember each and every detail of historical events and complicated topics. In January 2020, the channel climbed up to over 3 million subscribers, proving that people are always willing to learn if the provided content is entertaining enough.

#6: the Hacksmith

He’s been uploading videos since 2006 - but back then, he was just fighting with lightsabers. Those simple videos became a huge passion that turned into big-time success. The man behind the channel is James Hobson, a Canadian YouTuber known for turning fictional ideas into real amazing prototypes. As of November 2020, the channel accumulated over 10 million subscribers, with the majority of the videos gaining more than 1 million views. James turned from a hobbyist into a full-time prototype maker, gaining recognition from major movie and gaming franchises. His builds, which included Captain America’s shield, an exoskeleton, and many more, became worldwide sensations.

#5: Unus Annus

In Latin, Unus Annus means “one year.” And the ephemerality of time is precisely what this channel was about. The channel gained attention by announcing that, in exactly one year from its founding on November 15th 2019, all its varied content would be deleted. It was run by the very well-known Markiplier and Ethan Nestor, who uploaded videos about being team unus or team annus, with the two hosts essentially on opposite sides. It was a uniquely interesting concept that had everyone wondering - would they really delete every single video and take down the channel? They went on to do so- one year from the date. Considering how entertaining the channel was, we only hope that Markiplier and Ethan Nestor come out with more similar creative content in the near future.

#4: Sidemen

When a group of British YouTubers gets together, you know you’re in for plenty of banter. The Sidemen channel was created by the following YouTube personalities - KSI, Miniminter, Zerkaa, TBJZL, Behzinga, Vikkstar123 and W2S. The channel focuses on feel-good funny content, challenges, and just general shenanigans of the group. As of November 2020, the channel has more than 9 million subscribers, two side channels, and a number one best-selling book. Almost each of their videos gains over 1 million views, which proves these boys know what they’re doing. And they’re doing pretty well for themselves, aren’t they?

#3: penguinz0

He was in “Hunger Games” (sort of) and, according to himself, ruined a scene. And one of his nicknames is… Big Moist. His actual name, however, is Charles Xavier White Jr., and he’s known for his dry humor and his bored burgers joke, which never gets old, right? At least he thinks so. He has a special scale for reviewing games and movies which he calls the Moist Meter. Although his delivery may be dry, his sense of humour is very much on point. So much so, he’s gained over 6 million subscribers on his channel, and over 10 million views on his most popular videos.

#2: Dead Meat

James Anthony Janisse, otherwise known as Dead Meat, first appeared on YouTube in 2014 on a channel called Practical Folks. Soon after, he became the host of Dead Meat - a channel that focuses on horror franchise reviews and discussions. His videos focus, through witty commentary, on analyzing how many times someone dies in a horror movie. He’s often praised for his knowledge of pop culture, which makes his entire reviews absolutely hilarious. As of November 2020, Dead Meat has over 4 million subscribers, with many of his most popular videos featuring over 12 million views. Now that’s a high kill count.

#1: MrBeast Gaming

When you gain over 10 million subscribers just 6 months after launching your channel, you definitely deserve the number one spot on our list. Jimmy Donaldson, otherwise known as Mr Beast, focuses on amazing stunts on his popular primary channel. However, MrBeast Gaming is where it’s at if you’re looking for hilarious gaming commentary. He’s even planning on launching a “League of Legends” gaming team in 2022, which was one of his big life goals, as he’s a massive fan of the game. So, it looks like the Beast franchise is only beginning to grow and we just can’t wait to see what’s in store for this YouTube superstar in the upcoming years.
