10 Abandoned YouTube Channels With Disturbing Backstories

Welcome to WatchMojo, and today we’re looking at the most interesting inactive YouTube channels that aren’t being used due to unsettling reasons. We’ll only be looking at accounts that haven’t uploaded for years at the time of writing.

Spy Kitten TV

Specializing in conspiracy videos, especially if religion or the Illuminati are involved, Spy Kitten TV, also known as Dasha, opened her account in 2015. She regularly took aim at celebrities, often musicians, and tied their imagery, behavior, and words to the so-called secret world-running organization. Dasha’s last video was released in 2018, which focussed on Tekashi69. Her social media channels, which have problematic content, have also gone dark or been deleted with no explanation for her disappearance. Her mysterious absence led fellow conspiracy fans to believe something strange had happened to her, perhaps involving the Illuminati. However, there are allegations Dasha created The Witching Hour channel before that, too, became inactive in 2019.

Connie Kin

Alongside Elle Walker and Meg Resnikoff, Kin co-founded the popular parenting channel WhatsUpMoms in 2012. They released their first regular content in 2013 and are still active today. At the same time, Kin ran a personal channel that contained candid clips of her family with her husband, Andrew, and their son, Nathan. The last video from this account was in 2013. That year, sadly, Kin passed away from complications from giving birth to her daughter. While Andrew posted a couple of clips on the account afterward, it then became inactive. After taking a break to recover from the loss, WhatsUpMoms returned with Andrew’s blessing. A tribute video to Kin’s legacy was uploaded by Walker and Resnikoff.

Bratayley

Showcasing the life of the LeBlancs, the Bratayley was one of the most popular family channels on YouTube. The account first began uploading content in 2010 and put out around 2,600 videos, often reaching millions of views. Yet the last, titled “The End of an Era,” was in 2019, when they announced stepping back from the platform. The tragedy of the channel made this change understandable. Four years before, in 2015, the teenage son of the LeBlancs, Caleb, suddenly passed away from a heart condition. The Bratayley channel posted a tribute video to their son and brother. After focusing on other projects, some of the LeBlanc family returned to YouTube, such as Jules and Katie.

Martyn Hett

One of the best parts of YouTube is people in fandoms making funny, bizarre videos about their passion. And Hett was a prime example of this. Originally creating his channel in 2007, he specialized in making comedy videos, often focussed on the UK soap opera “Coronation Street.” He even had a tattoo of one of the show’s characters on his leg. A month after uploading his last video in 2017, Hett went to watch Ariana Grande at the Manchester Arena in Manchester, England. Sadly, an attack by extremists ended his life along with 22 others, including the perpetrator. In 2024, Hett’s mother, Figen Murray, partitioned the government to introduce Martyn’s Law, which would require venues to train staff to prevent similar attacks.

Achilles Williams

On top of being a personal trainer, Travis Williams, better known as Achilles, wanted to spread his fitness advice through YouTube and created an account. His videos focused on exercise to help get people fitter and motivational messages. Days after posting his last video on the platform in 2015, Williams and a friend went to the Buckhead area of Atlanta, Georgia, to record an exercise video. However, they choose a place next to the train tracks. When Williams was jumping rope, a high-speed freight train struck him and his friend, who was filming. While the camera operator escaped without serious injury, Williams unfortunately didn’t survive.

geriatric1927

In 2006, this channel was the most subscribed one on YouTube and was the first to reach 25,000 subscribers! Created by Peter Oakley, the UK-based creator quickly became the internet’s grandad. He specialized in putting out autobiographical videos, talking about his role during and after World War Two, as well as his passions, such as motorbikes and music with The Zimmers band. Oakley’s calm demeanor resonated with the audience through the chaos of life and the internet, turning him into a celebrity as the mainstream media profiled him. In 2014, he put out his last video, giving an update on his circumstances. Oakley had moved into a nursing facility after being diagnosed with cancer. A month later, he unfortunately passed away.

snakebitmgee

Setting up his channel in 2012, Kenny Veach concentrated on his hiking trips and gave advice to other would-be walkers for managing the great outdoors. A month after putting up his last video on YouTube, Veach went to search for the fabled M-Shaped Cave. Previously, he had commented on the platform about a strange cave that caused his body to vibrate that he found near the Nellis Air Force Base in Nevada, which is speculated to be connected to Area 51. This November 2014 trek was Veach’s second attempt to rediscover the strange place. However, even though he stated he would return the following day, he never did. To this day, no one knows what happened to Veach, which has led to rampant conspiracy theories.

Will Norton began releasing content in 2007 that highlighted his comedy skills with skits. In 2011, he put out his last video about a snowstorm. A couple of months later, tragedy sadly struck. Norton and his father were driving back from his high school graduation when a tornado hit Joplin, Mississippi. The Hummer was engulfed by the dangerous weather, nearly forcing it to tip. While his father tried to hold onto him, Norton’s seatbelt snapped, and he was taken by the tornado. Altogether, 158 people directly lost their lives to the devastating event. After being encouraged by her brother, Sara Norton created her channel, TheStyleBlog, in 2010 before stepping away in 2020.

Corey La Barrie

After forming his channel in 2014, La Barrie began releasing content in 2016 that specialized in his lifestyle and challenges. On top of this, he was one part of the Corey & Crawford channel alongside Crawford Collins. In 2020, La Barrie released a video that was meant to be deleted after 24 hours. In it, he detailed it was his 25th birthday, and he planned to stream the day after. However, that night in Los Angeles, California, ended in tragedy. After celebrating and both drinking, “Ink Master” alumni Daniel Silva drove La Barrie. Silva crashed the car into a tree, unfortunately ending La Barrie’s life. After a plea deal for manslaughter, Silva was sentenced to a year in jail and five years on probation.

Nomadic Statik

After spending years raising money, Gabby Petito and Brian Laundrie planned to travel in their van and vlog their experience through their channel. However, they only uploaded one video in 2021 as they set off. Shortly after a domestic incident, Petito vanished. Laundrie then returned to his parent’s house. As people searched and tried to figure out what happened, Laundrie also disappeared. Then, sadly, Peito’s body was found in Wyoming. She had been murdered, and the evidence pointed to her partner. Before he could be located, his remains were discovered after taking his own life. Laundrie’s notebook stated he was responsible for taking Petito’s life and that he pretended to be her to deceive her family through text messages.
