Top 10 Big Time Rush Stars: Where Are They Now?
Their musical journey has come to an end… now what? Welcome to MsMojo, and today we’re looking at the Top 10 Big Time Rush Stars: Where Are They Now?
For this list, we’ll be seeing what the actors of our four Minnesotan hockey players-turned-pop stars, and a few of their supporting castmates, have been up to since the end of the hit Nickelodeon musical comedy in 2013.
#10: Challen Cates
It takes an army to take care of four hockey players and a mischievous little girl, but Challen Cates brings order to the chaos as Kendall and Katie’s caring mother, Jennifer Knight. Fun fact: Cates is actually a real-life mother of two –a boy and a girl, so you can imagine that it wasn’t too hard to be a mother on the show –while also saying it was a learning experience. When she isn’t being a parent, she still gets offered plenty of acting jobs –including guest appearances on TV and Film or on episodic YouTube series. You’ve got to respect Cates for being able to juggle so much both on the show and in real life.
#9: Katelyn Tarver
Starting from Season 1, actress and musician Katelyn Tarver portrayed Jo – an aspiring actress and Kendall’s main love interest. After her time on BTR ended, Tarver followed in her character’s footsteps and continued acting –landing roles in Lifetime films such as “Dead on Campus” and recurring roles such as Rachael in “Famous in Love”. She was also quick to dive back into her music career, releasing music videos and songs such as “You Don’t Know”. Add to this that Tarver got married in 2014, and also had a recurring role in season 4 of HBO’s Ballers. Most recently, she appeared on NBC’s Songland, and had her original song “Young” chosen and recorded by Old Dominion.
#8: Tanya Chisholm
Disney fans might recognize her as Jackie from “High School Musical 2”, but today, we’re recognizing Tanya Chisholm’s role as Gustavo’s even-tempered assistant who looks out for the boys, Kelly. After her time in the “Big Time” concluded, she still continued acting –getting cast in films such as “Confessions of a Prodigal Son” and even in videos for the Wong Fu Productions YouTube Channel. When she isn’t out acting, she can mostly be found online, blogging fashion tutorials and tips for a positive lifestyle. It’s almost fitting that her actress would try to be a positive role model since Kelly tried to keep things peaceful between Gustavo and the Boys – and that she’d look so glamorous while doing so.
#7: Stephen Kramer Glickman
Being a comedian, Stephen Glickman was the perfect casting choice for Gustavo Rocqué – the boys’ blowhard manager who secretly harbors a soft spot for his “dogs”. Even after the show’s conclusion, Stephen still keeps the comedy going through his YouTube channel and hosting his monthly podcast, “The Night Time Show”. Other than that, he still gets plenty of acting opportunities in both television and film –including voicing the awkward antihero, Pigeon Toady, in the 2016 animated film, “Storks”. Also, on a personal note, he took the time to give our “Big Time Rush” Moments video a shout out on Twitter –showing that the series still means a lot to him even after it ended.
#6: Erin Sanders
While longtime Nickelodeon fans know her as the brainy, spazzy Quinn Pensky from “Zoey 101”, we’re giving Erin Sanders respect for her role as Camille – the eccentric, aspiring actress with a not-so-subtle crush on Logan. While her time at Nickelodeon was over after that, Sanders still found work making guest appearances on shows like “Melissa & Joey” or in films such as “Guilty at 17” –and even the television miniseries, “Six Degrees of Separation”, so it’s safe to say that Sanders is still reaching for the stars just like Camille. Also, around 2016, she started dating music artist, Adam Johan –tough luck for all the ‘Lomille’ shippers out there.
#5: Ciara Bravo
Although she had been acting since she was 9-years-old, Ciara Bravo’s true rise to fame began on “Big Time Rush” where she portrayed Katie Knight –Kendall’s smart-alecky little sister who they’ll all probably work for one day. As she grew older, Bravo started to branch out in all kinds of starring roles, including –but not limited to- main characters for the short-lived “Red Band Society” and “Second Chance”, and she even managed to land herself in the MCU as Abby in “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.”. Not only that, but she’s also managed to leave her mark in both short and theatrical films –including a role in the 2017 drama film, “To the Bone”.
#4: Logan Henderson
At last, we come to the Dogs themselves –and what better place to start than with the panicky brains of the group, Logan? After the series’ conclusion, Logan took a three-year hiatus from his acting and music career to really focus on his personal life… but he couldn’t stay out of the limelight forever. At the start of 2017, he began his career as a solo music artist –dishing out hit singles such as “Bite My Tongue” and “Pull Me Deep”. While he hasn’t done too much acting in a while, it’s comforting to know that he’s still thriving in the music business –he also briefly dated Carlos PenaVega’ sister-in-law, Makenzie Vega for almost two years.
#3: Kendall Schmidt
Out of the four boys, it was usually Kendall who acted as the levelheaded and calm leader of the pack –and one-half of one of the most developed couples on the show. While the show’s time was up, Kendall’s time in the business was only getting started. His first order of business was to reunite with his old music partner, Dustin Belt, and bring their old pop-rock band -Heffron Drive- back together. As for his acting career, he has mostly stuck with guest appearances in other TV shows –including as a recurring rival in Nickelodeon’s “School of Rock” and even a surprise appearance on Gordon Ramsay’s “Hell’s Kitchen”.
#2: Carlos PenaVega
We all remember Carlos as the fun-loving, optimistic, but not-too-bright member of the band –with or without his lucky hockey helmet. After the show’s conclusion, the acting bug never left Carlos, and neither did his time with Nickelodeon. He still shows his support for the network with a few notable guest appearances, such as hosting the short-lived game show “Webheads”, and the recurring voice role of Bobby Santiago on “The Loud House.” Also, while Carlos on the show was unlucky in love, Carlos in real life married “Spy Kids” actress Alexa Vega in 2014. Together they share a YouTube account and two sons, and their relationship is nothing short of sweet.
#1: James Maslow
Finally, we come to the vain-yet-good natured pretty boy of the group who first dreamed of becoming famous, James. After the show ended, he found himself cast in multiple TV shows and even more films, including “Seeds of Yesterday” –he even got a chance to compete as a finalist on “Dancing with the Stars”. Along with this, James also got back into the music business as a solo artist – with singles such as “Love U Sober” and even his own album, “How I Like It”. If you look at his history, James didn’t have much of a career before “Big Time Rush”, but the show ended up opening more doors and opportunities for him to fulfill his character’s dream of becoming famous.
