Top 10 Most Hated Celebs of 2018

Is that really fair? Welcome to WatchMojo.com and we’ll be counting down the Top 10 Celebrities That Are Unfairly/Harshly Hated. For this list, we’re looking at celebs that might be irrationally hated for things other celebrities might get a pass on. For the record, we’re not saying we hate them or that everything they’ve ever done should be forgiven, but are instead attempting to give another perspective you may not have considered.

#10: Shia LaBeouf

Top 20 Ridiculous Shia LaBeouf Moments

The youngest Stevens brother in Disney’s “Even Stevens” may have been immature and selfish, but it was hard not to love the playful Louis anyway. Shia LaBeouf’s Daytime Emmy-winning performance helped pave the way for more significant feature film roles. But with success came legal troubles, plagiarism allegations and lots of controversy. However, while they’re not inexcusable, some of this could be chalked up to his coming-of-age in the spotlight, as well as LaBeouf’s commitment to being an “artist” – which he’s admittedly often taken too far. But let’s not forget that he’s also been shown not to take things too seriously. With age comes wisdom and a man who’ll hopefully find his way.

#9: John Mayer

Top 20 Funniest John Cena Moments OUTSIDE the Ring

John’s mouth has gotten him in a lot of trouble, so we can’t 100% blame others for his public persona. But the tabloids sure love him, and stories around him often get blown out of proportion. He’s an oversharer and can be mean for sure, like when he called Jessica Simpson, “sexual napalm,” but he’s also been on the receiving end of some harsh criticism, like when his ex-Taylor Swift took him down a million pegs in “Dear John.” He’s laid low for a while and hopefully, he’s grown up but there are probably more deserving people to hate on than a guy who’s put his foot in his mouth and made some cheesy soft rock.

#8: Kristen Stewart

Top 10 Funniest Kristen Wiig Moments

Kristen is an example of someone who got seemingly famous overnight and never seemed comfortable in the spotlight - but that doesn’t make her the ultimate villain she’s often painted out to be. A lot of people hate on her—more specifically, “Twilight” era her—because she seemed bored by or ungrateful for her fame. It didn’t help when she was caught cheating on her co-star and boyfriend at the time, Robert Pattinson. Since then, she’s kept her head down and has quietly transformed into one of the most critically acclaimed actresses of her generation, winning a César, France’s equivalent of an Oscar, and sticking mostly to indie passion projects. Maybe it’s time to re-assess her talent and stop worrying about her dating life.

#7: Pitbull

Mr. Worldwide just wants to make people happy - but for some reason that means tons of people hate him. In the early aughts he seemed to be on and in every song, so the overexposure didn’t really help. No one’s going to argue that Pitbull is the best rapper or singer in the world, but besides making formulaic music, has he ever really done anything bad? Not really. In fact, Pitbull uses his celebrity for good by using his name for charitable causes, like opening up a charter school in Miami. In 2017, he announced he’d use his private plane to help fly in cancer patients from Puerto Rico to the mainland after Hurricane Maria decimated the island.

#6: Khloé Kardashian

Say what you will about the Kardashians but they are targeted with a lot of hate, some deserved, some not. But out of all of them, Khloé is one who’s likely the most sympathetic. She’s been dragged in the media for her looks and her weight, which isn’t fair for anyone. And unlike Kim or Kylie, Khloé doesn’t seem to court attention. Her personal struggles with ex-husband, Lamar Odom, also had her cast in a different light, as she’s been painted as vain and selfish. We’re not saying the woman should be up for sainthood, but she’s been through a lot and still kept her sense of humor through it all.

#5: Zooey Deschanel

She’s arguably the most huggable, hated hipster out there. People like to say that she’s just a manic pixie dream girl, because of her quirky roles in films like in “500 Days of Summer,” and her character on “New Girl,” but isn’t it a little harsh to reduce her to a stereotype? Zooey is an actress, producer, mom, and businesswoman, co-founding the women’s interest website, hellogiggles.com. She’s also an accomplished musician both within She & Him, and her solo efforts. If all that doesn’t sound like a woman creating her own narrative, we’re not sure what qualifies. She may like cute dresses and bangs but that’s no reason to think she can’t be taken seriously.

#4: Nickelback By far the most hated musical group out of Canada (or really anywhere), Nickelback is a punching bag that most people can agree on. In the early 2000s, these guys were everywhere with songs like “Photograph” and “Rockstar” always on the radio and on the charts. Their music might not be everyone’s cup of tea, but there’s so much average music out there, so why pick on them? They’re not the only ones who’ve ever become successful from songs that popular culture has later collectively turned its back on. And there has to be someone out there who likes them, as they’ve sold over 50 million albums worldwide - and not all of them could have been ironic purchases.

#3: Anne Hathaway

Top 10 Moments That Made Us Love Anne Hathaway

It’s baffling that one of the biggest criticisms of Anne Hathaway is that she’s a “theater kid.” Around the time of her Oscar campaign for “Les Misérables” in 2012, hating Anne became a sport and she was dragged all over social media for her acceptance speech. But can we all admit that it’s a bit ridiculous that this woman is disliked for trying? She may come off as cheesy at times, but you can also tell that she’s dedicated to her work and wants to do her best. And her acting shows it! She’s had a wide range of roles, from “The Devil Wears Prada” to “The Princess Diaries” and “Brokeback Mountain.” She has good movies, admit it.

#2: Nicolas Cage

Perhaps one of the most polarizing actors in Hollywood, Nicholas Cage is a pretty easy target. He’s derided for less than stellar performances in movies like “Ghost Rider,” “Season of the Witch,” and “The Wicker Man.” He also seems like a pretty eccentric person. But it wouldn’t be fair not to acknowledge that he can be a damn good actor when he wants to be. Case in point, movies like “Adaptation,” and “Moonstruck,” which show that the guy has the chops. And more recently, the 2013 film, “Joe” showed that there’s still some life in him. Just root for this guy to make better choices and stop phoning it in.

#1: Adam Sandler

Jim Carrey vs Adam Sandler

Adam’s star has definitely fallen in the early 21st century. He used to be a fan favorite with movies like “The Wedding Singer” and “Happy Gilmore,” but audiences didn’t love his more serious comedies like “Punch Drunk Love,” even though the critics did. Somewhere along the way, Adam decided to go back to the brand he knew worked: gross-out, over-the-top comedies. Sure, they’re not as beloved as his earlier movies, but Adam’s not the first or the last person to make a bad movie, or two, or three … but can we all agree he’s been maligned enough? He still makes a lot of people laugh, and at the end of the day, he seems like a pretty decent guy.
