VOICE OVER: Rebecca Brayton WRITTEN BY: Jacob Pitts
These celebrity reactions to rumors about themselves are priceless. For this list, we'll be looking at the most notable times famous people addressed stories concerning them in entertaining or empowering fashion. Our countdown includes Zendaya, Seth Rogen, Dolly Parton, and more!

#10: Ryan Reynolds on Marriage Rumors

Top 10 Times Ryan Reynolds Was Awesome

As one of Hollywood’s biggest power couples, Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively are no strangers to the rumor mill. The fact that they seem incredibly happy together with a lovely family hasn’t stopped people from speculating that there’s actually trouble in paradise. More specifically, the International Business Times once stated that the married actors were “struggling to spend quality time” together. Reynolds soon quoted the article on Twitter, joking “I wish. I could use a little ‘me time.’” Based on his response, Reynolds and Lively might be spending a little too much time together. We’re kidding, of course, but this is one rumor we can safely say is dead in the…pool.

#9: Taylor Swift on Leg Insurance Rumors

According to the tabloids, Regina George isn’t the only one protecting her signature feature. In 2015, the National Enquirer reported that Taylor Swift had her famous long legs insured for $40 million. Similar claims have circulated about Jennifer Lopez, who hilariously reacted to stories that she did the same for her well-known derriere. Many outlets repeated the rumor about Swift’s legs as if it were fact, but she later poked fun at it on Instagram. Posting a photo of a scratched leg her cat Meredith caused, the singer captioned it “Great work Meredith, I was just trying to love you and now you owe me $40 million.” When you’re as famous as Taylor Swift, shaking off the gossip is a necessity.

#8: Zendaya on Pregnancy Rumors

Female celebrities seem to endure the brunt of tabloid culture, and nowhere is that more evident than the never-ending pregnancy rumors. This one actually came from fans who misinterpreted a prank. A TikTok meme in which users get “Krissed” by Kris Jenner after seeing false information has been making the rounds. One claiming Zendaya is expecting with “Spider-Man” co-star Tom Holland made waves. Many TikTokers completely ignored the second half of the clip and spread it without checking its accuracy. Zendaya later posted on her Instagram story, writing “This is why I stay off Twitter…just making stuff up for no reason…weekly.” In other words, this rumor seems to be much a-“Dune” about nothing.

#7: Ashton Kutcher & Mila Kunis on Divorce Rumors

Top 20 Times Ashton Kutcher & Mila Kunis Made Us Believe in Love

Most celebs will just quote-tweet their false rumors, but our next couple pulled up the genuine article. In a 2019 Instagram video, Mila Kunis showed a picture of that week’s cover of In Touch magazine to the camera. It claimed that she and husband Ashton Kutcher were headed for divorce. Their surprised reaction to the headline, which also alleged Kunis had taken their children was priceless. Needless to say, it was seemingly the first they had heard that their marriage was over. Thankfully, the “That '70s Show” stars have continued to personify relationship goals, teaming up with Shaggy for a Cheetos Super Bowl commercial in 2021. Long live Jackie and Kelso!

#6: Seth Rogen on Disappearance Rumors

Apparently, we’re so plugged into social media now that if someone hasn’t posted a selfie in a bit, it means they’ve gone missing. That’s the sole basis for the abduction rumors surrounding Seth Rogen, which began as a not-so-serious TikTok song in 2021. While Rogen’s career hasn’t slowed down at all, his Instagram is mostly a showcase of his ceramics hobby. This led people to wonder where the Canadian funnyman had gone. Rogen responded to the comedic concerns, saying “This video is very funny and not at all true!,” while using the opportunity to crack a joke too. It seems he was simply swept away in the world of pottery, making regular vases and those of the “Pineapple Express” variety.

#5: Dolly Parton on Rib Removal Rumors

Also in:

Top 10 Times Dolly Parton Was Awesome

Her beauty is beyond compare, just ask the plastic surgeon’s chair. Cosmetic surgery is all the rage among celebrities, and the procedures just keep getting wilder. Dolly Parton has been an open book about her past work. But there’s one rumored surgery she says she never had: getting her ribs taken out, supposedly to make her waist appear smaller. When the country legend was confronted by a stranger about the alleged tweak, she reportedly replied, “No, my waist is little because nothing grows in the shade.” Parton isn’t the only famous artist to be accused of the unconventional procedure. Cher and Marilyn Manson have notably been subjects of the same claims, but so far no one is copping to this one!

#4: Katy Perry on Taylor Swift Feud Rumors

Band-aids don’t fix bullet holes, but Katy Perry was willing to try. During a livestream to promote her 2017 album “Witness,” she was interviewed about her rumored feud with Taylor Swift. The rivalry went way back, with Perry poaching Swift’s backup dancers, and Swift seemingly releasing “Bad Blood” in retaliation. Perry confirmed the feud, but expressed a willingness to move on and also shared her respect for her fellow artist. In 2019, they confirmed it was all in the past for good, with Perry appearing in Swift’s “You Need to Calm Down” video. Hugging while dressed as a burger and fries, the pair finally put their beef to pasture and made our teenage dreams come true.

#3: Jennifer Aniston on Pregnancy Rumors

Top 10 Moments That Made Us Love Jennifer Aniston

If the supermarket checkout magazines are to be believed, the “Friends” star must have a whole nursery of infants by now. They’ve weaved endless tall tales about Jennifer Aniston being a mother, or not throughout the years. The actress finally had enough of the speculation in 2016, crafting an op-ed for the Huffington Post about the perpetual tabloid harassment she’s faced. Among a plethora of mic-drop-worthy quotes about feminism and celebrity gossip, Aniston wrote, “I am not pregnant. What I am is fed up.” Although it failed to put an end to the stories, it hopefully made people think twice about dissecting a woman’s personal life for entertainment. We love to see it.

#2: Morgan Freeman on Death Rumors

Unfortunately, harmless Hollywood rumors seem to be an outlier. Dangerous death hoaxes have run rampant over the years, and Morgan Freeman has been a most common victim. Surviving three false reports of his passing in 2010, 2012, and 2017, the “Shawshank Redemption” actor seems to have more lives than Selina Kyle at this point. After the 2012 rumor spread, Freeman cleared the air on his Facebook page. He wrote “Like Mark Twain, I keep reading that I have died. I hope those stories are not true…But if they are, I'm happy to report that my afterlife seems identical to my life when I was alive.” We’d thank God that the stories weren’t real, but are we sure He and Freeman aren’t the same person?

#1: Lady Gaga on Male Anatomy Rumors

Also in:

Top 10 Memorable Lady Gaga Outfits

She’s never a drag, always a queen. Since her rise to fame, Lady Gaga has faced a nasty rumor that she’s also working with some male equipment. The gossip was ridiculous then, but it’s aged even worse in the years since. In 2020, an old interview resurfaced between Gaga and Anderson Cooper, where she refused to deny the rumor while acknowledging the absurdity of peoples’ obsession with it. After all, even if it were true, so what? In 2017, she once again clapped back at general body-shaming on Instagram, saying “I'm proud of my body and you should be proud of yours too. No matter who you are or what you do.” Needless to say, Lady Gaga deserves all the applause.
