Top 10 Celebrity Siblings Who Have Appeared Together on Screen
#10: Aly & AJ Michalka
These two sisters may be best known as the aptly named pop music duo, Aly & AJ. Their 2004 debut album, “Into the Rush” was certified gold and in 2021 they released their fourth studio album and first one in 14 years. Both girls are also actresses and have worked mostly on separate projects. You might know AJ from her recurring role as Lainey Lewis on “The Goldbergs.” And Aly had a major recurring role on the CW show, “iZombie” during it’s five season run. The sisters have acted together as well. In 2006 they starred in the Disney channel TV movie, “Cow Belles,” which was inspired by the Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie reality show, “The Simple Life.”
#9: The McClain Sisters
Again we have sisters best known for their music. This time it’s the three McClain sisters, China Anne, Sierra and Lauryn. The girls started their careers as the “3mcclaingirls”, then they became the “McClain Sisters”, then just “McClain” and after taking a break, they returned in 2020 as “Thriii.” Their acting careers have seen them mostly work separately from each other. Sierra can be seen in “9-1-1: Lone Star” and China Anne has a recurring role in “House of Payne.” But back in 2007, just as their careers were getting underway, all three sisters appeared in the film, “Daddy’s Little Girls,” written and directed by Tyler Perry. They also put out a single for the movie called “Daddy’s Girl.”
#8: Hilary & Haylie Duff
The Duff sisters made names for themselves separately. Older sister Haylie was the first to hit it big, when she was cast in the role of Sandy Jameson on the show, “7th Heaven.” But her sister soon caught up, becoming a teen idol with her show”Lizzie McGuire” on the Disney channel. The show was such a hit that Disney even released a “Lizzie McGuire” game for the Nintendo Gameboy. Haylie made a few appearances on her sister's show, and the two also appeared together in a movie called “Material Girls” in 2006.
#7: Emily & Zooey Deschanel
Both of these sisters have been acting since the 1990s and have had successful careers in both film and television. The Deschenel sisters are also very close – so much so that at one point they lived right next to each other in adjoining duplexes. And yet, this closeness off screen has only been seen on screen once in the last 20+ years. The only time the women have appeared together on screen is in a season five episode of Emily’s show, “Bones.” Zooey played one of Bones’ cousins, Margaret Whitesell.
#6: Abigail & Spencer Breslin
The Breslin siblings both found success in Hollywood at an early age. By the age of seven, Spencer was co-starring in “The Kid'' with Bruce Willis. And younger sister Abigail was just 10 years old when she stole all of our hearts in the hit film “Little Miss Sunshine,” with a performance that earned her both a BAFTA and an Academy Award nomination. While Abigail and Spencer have made their own way in the industry, their paths have brought them together several times. They both had roles in “Raising Helen,” “The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement,” “The Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause” and the crime thriller “Perfect Sisters.”
#5: Jason & Justine Bateman
If you grew up in the 1980s then you know who Justine Bateman is. Her role as Mallory Keaton on “Family Ties” made her a star and garnered her Golden Globe and Emmy nominations. Her younger brother Jason also found success in the 80s, but has seen his popularity rise over the last few decades with some hit films and the television show, “Arrested Development.” Speaking of “Arrested Development”, it’s on a season three episode of the show that the Batemen siblings appeared on screen for the only time in their long careers. Fittingly, the episode was titled “Family Ties.”
#4: Luke & Owen Wilson
While the other siblings on this list have gotten their starts separately, the Wilson brothers kicked off their careers together, starring in the same film. “Bottle Rocket” was the film debut for both brothers and was co-written by Owen and director Wes Anderson. Not only that, but their older brother Andrew also had a small part in the movie. All three brothers would reunite with Wes Anderson again five years later in the film, “The Royal Tenenbaums.” And in 2004 Luke and Owen played another pair of famous siblings, the Wright brothers, in “Around the World in 80 Days.”
#3: Maggie & Jake Gyllenhaal
Jake and his older sister have been working in Hollywood since the early 90s and have each made a name for themselves as two of the best actors of their generation. Both siblings have been nominated for an Oscar, and have starred separately in some of the best films of the current century – from “Adaptation” and “The Dark Knight'' to “Brokeback Mountain” and “Nightcrawler.” They have also shared screen time together in two films: the cult classic “Donnie Darko”, and “A Dangerous Woman,” which was directed by their father, Stephan Gyllenhaal.
#2: Marlon & Shawn Wayans
Yes, we know that Shawn and Marlon were both featured cast members on “In Living Color”. And that they both wrote and starred in the WB sitcom, “The Wayans Bros.” And yes, we also know that those don’t count! But what does count are the movies they appeared in together. These include both “Scary Movie” and its sequel. Their sister Kim actually appeared in a deleted scene in “Scary Movie 2”. Marlon and Shawn were also both in “White Chicks” and “Little Man”. All four films were directed by their brother, Keenen Ivory Wayans.
#1: John & Joan Cusack
If you thought the Wayans brothers starred in a lot of movies together, you might be shocked to know that the Cusack siblings have acted together in ten films thus far! The first film they both appeared in was 1983’s “Class” starring Rob Lowe and Andrew McCarthy. John and Joan both had very small parts. In “Say Anything”, Joan played John’s sister in the film. In “Grosse Point Blank” Joan is the assistant to John’s hitman character. And in “High Fidelity”, she’s a mutual friend of John and his ex. These talented siblings have had accomplished careers together and apart.
