Wherever the White Wolf treads, you can expect a trail of corpses to follow in his wake. Welcome to WatchMojo, and today we are counting down our picks for the Top 10 Fight Scenes in The Witcher Season 1. For this list, we’ll be looking at the battle scenes from across the first season of Netflix’s acclaimed dark fantasy series. Whether they’re between humans or monsters, as long as swords are drawn and bodies are cut down, they’re up for consideration!

#10: Geralt vs Nekkers

"Much More" And this is why you should never leave a mountain of bodies strewn around the place, because you never know when the not-so-heavenly scent of the dearly departed will end up attracting these pests. Drawn to the rotten flesh of those that were killed at the Cintra refugee camp, a swarm of Nekkers nearly end up devouring a good Samaritan trying to bury the fallen, only to be rescued by Geralt at the last second. Given how he had just watched everyone in Cintra get slaughtered by Nilfgaard, we imagine carving his way through these grave-eaters made for quite the cathartic experience…at least until one chomped on his leg and poisoned him.

#9: Vilgefortz vs Cahir

"Much More" If anyone had a chance of beheading Nilfgaard’s resident, psychotic zealot before he could cause anymore damage, it was the charismatic mage with one hell of a sword hand. After teleporting in, Vilgefortz charges headfirst towards the enemy commander, but in spite of Yennefer’s warnings, exhausts all of his magic by creating multiple swords in quick succession, which eventually leads to Cahir kicking him down a steep hill. Of course, now that we know Vilgefortz is a turncoat, we can’t help but wonder if this whole fight was simply staged to avoid blowing his cover.

#8: The Battle of Marnadal Valley

"The End's Beginning" It’s the conflict that plunged the Northern Kingdoms into chaos, as well as set the likes of Geralt and Ciri on their destined crash course. It also led to the death of the majority of Cintra’s forces, including the endearing King Eist, while also leaving Queen Calanthe mortally wounded. Given Nilfgaard’s newfound faith in the not so benevolent religion of the White Flame combined with a growing resentment of Cintra due to years of tension, the Empire pretty much strutted their way through their borders and decimated their army, sparing none. And that’s all before they forced their way passed the gates!

#7: Saving the Dragons

"Rare Species" Geralt may be a monster hunter by trade, but that doesn’t mean he’s always going to take the side of humans, especially when they’re the morally dubious kind. After discovering his employer was actually a Gold Dragon in disguise seeking assistance to guard the body of his mate as well as their unborn hatchling, Geralt and Yennefer abandon their original goal and instead work together to kill off the Reavers before they can steal the egg. Goes to show that not only do the White Wolf and Obsidian Star make for quite the power couple, but complement each other in combat, as the poor bastards who faced them found out the hard way.

#6: The Banquet Brawl

"Of Banquets, Bastards and Burials" Speaking of defending monsters from humans, it’s fair to say the Witcher made no friends in Cintra when he chose to defy Queen Calanthe’s wishes and protect the likes of the cursed-hedgehog-knight Duny. Willing to do anything to prevent the Law of Surprise from being fulfilled, the Lioness of Cintra orders her royal guard to do away with both of them, turning the social gathering into something of a battle royale. Turns out that even when dressed in the finest of silks, Geralt is still a beast as long as you put a weapon in his hand.

#5: Yennefer vs The Assassin

"Of Banquets, Bastards and Burials" Well…she did say she wanted something more exciting than entertaining at court, though we doubt becoming embroiled in an assassination plot against a Queen and her infant child she was tasked to guard was what Yennefer had in mind. In order to avoid not only the blades of a magically equipped mercenary, but also his death-dealing lobster, Yen and the royals make a run for it. How so? Portals, and a whole lot of them. As Yen and Queen Kalis traverse mountains, deserts and everything in-between, the hunt tragically comes to an end when the assassin gets his mark, though fails to kill Yen and the baby thanks to a last-second act of heroism.

#4: Geralt vs The Kikimora

"The End's Beginning" What better way to kick things off than seeing the Witcher do what he does best – slaying giant monsters and making it look easy! Erupting from the dark waters of a swamp, we find the White Wolf mid-battle against the tentacled terror that is a Kikimora, only able to contend with its multitude of limbs thanks to downing some enhancement elixir. Even as the beast attempts to drown him, Geralt is able to slice his way to freedom, before finishing things off with a final stab through the face. As messy as it is, we’d say it’s still one of the easiest contracts Geralt’s had thus far.

#3: The Siege of Sodden Hill

Top 10 Unanswered Questions In The Witcher Season 1

"Much More" For those of you that wanted to see more magical battles in this show, then feast your eyes. With Nilfgaard on their doorstep and conquest on the brain, Yennefer, Tissaia, Triss and a small group of rogue mages prepare to take one last stand at the keep on Soddon Hill. Despite being outnumbered, the way in which these brave souls use every trick and spell at their disposal to keep the Empire at bay is downright mesmerising, though we can all agree the highlight was when Yen showed her true power by setting the army ablaze in a dazzling display of fire magic. How’s that for chaos?

#2: Butchery in Blaviken

"The End's Beginning" Despite doing his damnedest not to get involved in the conflict between Stregobor and Renfri, Geralt finds himself having to choose an evil, eventually crossing swords with the princess-turned bandit and her merry band of marauders. Thus we have our rampage, as Geralt slays his way through each of her men like they were nothing, displaying his immense sword skill and magical prowess in the process. Even while trying to hold himself back for Renfri’s sake, her refusal to give in leaves the Witcher no choice but to reluctantly cut her down too. Bloody, brutal and oddly beautiful to behold, this is the Witcher at his most savage.

#1: Geralt vs The Striga

"Betrayer Moon" Who would have guessed that what started as an investigation surrounding another Witcher would evolve into a ferocious fight to save an innocent soul warped into a grotesque monster? From its creepy origin all the wait to its tension-filled reveal, the Striga is one of the most sinister beings the White Wolf has ever fought, and holy crap did it put him through the wringer. Despite using everything from a silver chain to his Signs, Geralt only managed to survive by the skin of his teeth, willing to get himself mauled purely for the sake of trying to free the creature of its corruption, and damn if it wasn’t spectacular to behold!
