Top 10 Fresh Prince Outfits We WANT
What if we got jiggy with it one more time? Welcome to MsMojo, and today we’ll be counting down our picks for the Top 10 Fresh Prince Outfits We Want.
For this list, we’re taking a look at some of the most iconic and fashionable outfits in The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. So strap on those hightops and turn that school blazer inside out as stroll down memory lane with these ‘90s fashion gems.
#10: Jackie’s Classy Student & Will’s Varsity Champ Look
"Father of the Year"
The ‘90s were definitely an interesting time in fashion. Tyra Banks, who had a recurring role on the show for a few episodes, demonstrates this in her cropped turtleneck, plaid and denim ensemble. If ever there was any way to make a crop top classy, a high neck is definitely it, while the essential ‘90s staple known as the plaid shirt makes the entire outfit casual chic. On the other hand, Will is donning a timeless classic: the varsity jacket. His shirt and pants bear the same colors, matching perfectly with the whole quarterback look. This is how you have a schoolyard argument in style!
#9: Will’s Windbreaker Win
"Mistaken Identity"
The Fresh Prince himself is the only person we can think of who can pull off these quintessentially ‘90s patterned pants. We know from his other outfits that the proper way to wear such a loud print is simple colors; somehow he found a windbreaker that matches the party that is these pants. The red Nike hightops compliment this outfit perfectly, yet raise an interesting question: how many different pairs of Nike shoes does Will own? It’s a good thing his life got flip-turned upside down so he could afford this rainbow of Nike flavors…
#8: Hilary’s Little Black Dress
"Cased Up"
In a rare instance of simplicity, Hilary looks flawless in this LBD. What better, classy way to dress to go on a date with Theo Huxtable? She is perfect arm candy for her date, as she doesn’t overdo it (something Hilary is often guilty of). The sheer sleeve is a stylish added bonus to this otherwise simple dress. The shrug effect on the shoulders displays the perfect level of modesty for a fine dining date. We all want and need this amazing date night frock: let’s hope this style makes a comeback soon!
#7: Ashley’s Dressy Combo
"Grumpy Young Men"
Ashley Banks became a fashion icon in the later seasons of “The Fresh Prince.” Here she shows off this ‘90s staple: the dress shirt, high-waisted dress pants and suspenders combination. She adds her own touch with a sheer tank top, making the entire outfit to die for. Though this style has made a bit of a comeback in the late 2010s, no one could really pull it off as flawlessly as Ashley. The entirety of this simple look really spells chic. She displays the elegant class of a woman from Bel-Air, born and raised.
#6: Will’s Neon Nostalgia
Various
No one on this show rocked more neon colors than the Prince himself. The vast array adorned by Will was astounding: from green and yellow stripes, to a multicolored plethora of paisley. Will Smith must have developed color blindness after six seasons of the neon rainbow. The appeal of looking like a fabulous traffic cone has actually returned in the late 2010s, and we’re still trying to wrap our heads around its glowing splendor. Perhaps if we spent most of our days on the playground, it would make more sense though.
#5: Hilary’s Little Red Dress
"Fresh Prince After Dark"
The family met many famous people throughout the seasons, some more interesting than others. However, when Will, Carlton and Hilary are invited to the Playboy Mansion, Hilary chooses the perfect outfit to meet Hugh Hefner. She wears a tight, short, red dress with a cut-out halter neckline...again, seemingly a dress that only Hilary can pull off! It fits her like a glove, and she looks classy as ever where she easily could have looked the opposite. Her minor accessories and simple hairstyle are a perfect match for the LRD, ensuring that her trip to the bunny mansion is all set.
#4: Will’s Inside Out Blazer Look
Various
Perhaps the most memorable look from The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, Will’s rejection of Bel-Air Academy’s uniform resulted in his turning his blazer inside out to reveal a red, paisley pattern. It’s such an ultimate 1990s “bad boy” look that it makes us question how the educational institution would even allow such shenanigans. Don’t even get us started on his wearing a backwards cap in school. But there’s no denying that Will pulled off an inside-out blazer like no one else could. Maybe that’s how everyone in West Philadelphia (born and raised) actually wore it back in the glorious ‘90s. Now, let’s all run to our closets and check the linings in our blazers!
#3: Ashley’s Denim & Plaid Dream
"What’s Will Got to Do With It”
Oh, Ashley! Back at it again with the enviable style! The perfectly matching hat trend returns in this plaid and denim combination. A red plaid skirt is paired with a white, long-sleeved shirt, denim vest and matching plaid hat for another flawlessly cool look. Plaid needs no accessories in this case, as Ashley accompanies the outfit with just a simple black purse. This is what the cool kids in high school wore that we all envied and tried ever-so-hard to emulate. The preppy-chic look is overdue for a comeback, and we’ll happily sport it as adults if it does: then, we will be the cool kids.
#2: Ashley’s Cool Girl Look
"For Sale by Owner"
Ashley’s outfits are most definitely the stuff of envy. This may be the coolest one yet with its black romper, red long sleeved shirt, thigh-high black stockings and white and red beanie to top it all off. Ashley looks like what we all wanted to look like in the ‘90s, though we could never quite get there. If Will is the Prince of Bel-Air, Ashley is definitely the Princess. Ankle-high boots finish the look so perfectly, and once again, Ashley is definitely one of the cool kids, if not the cool kid on the block.
Before we unveil our top pick, here are a few honorable mentions:
Hilary’s Red Tartan Suit
"Courting Disaster"
Will’s Black & White Pants with Purple & Lime Shirts
"Bang the Drum, Ashley"
Vivian’s Short Pink Sequined Dress
"The Big Four-Oh"
Hilary’s Oversized Vest & Florals
"How I Spent My Summer Vacation"
Will’s Red, Black & White Patterned Vest & Hat
"A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum"
#1: Will’s Overalls
Various
When it comes to stylish male celebs, it’s not hard to deny that Will Smith is a 1990s fashion icon. The Fresh Prince’s looks scream ‘90s style, and one aspect of said decade that he made exceedingly cool was overalls. With his loud shirts and signature one clasp left unclasped, Will made us all envy how fine he looked in the farmer’s staple. It’s no wonder overalls have made a comeback. When he pulled up to the house at about seven or eight, he entered the 1990s in unique style, and brought fashion to the decade in a way that no one else could. He looked at his kingdom, he was finally there, to sit on his throne as the Prince of Bel-Air… and fashion!
