Top 10 Fun Facts You Didn't Know About Ariana Grande

Welcome to MsMojo, and today we’re counting down our picks for the little details about Ariana Grande’s life that make us love her even more.
#10: She Does Incredible Impressions
What do Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, and Celine Dion have in common? Ariana Grande does amazing impersonations of all of them. With her spectacular vocal range, it’s not too surprising that she can imitate lots of fellow singers. But what’s really crazy is that she can do it with her speaking voice too. Her impression of Jennifer Coolidge is uncanny. And Jennifer Lawrence was super impressed by Grande’s performance as her on “Saturday Night Live.” Imagine being at a star-studded Hollywood party and watching Grande bust out this talent in front of everyone.
#9: She Never Went to Prom
In May of 2020, Grande teamed up with Justin Bieber to release a new single, “Stuck with U,” that became a tribute to high schoolers who couldn’t attend prom because of COVID. They also put out a “prom playlist,” and in a subsequent interview, Grande revealed that she had never gone to prom herself because she was shooting “Victorious” at the time. The singer said that filming with her castmates and having tutoring sessions together between shoots sometimes made the set feel like a real high school. The show even did a prom episode in season two, but it’s not quite the same when there’s a director standing nearby yelling, “Cut!”
#8: She’s a Huge Jim Carrey Fan
It’s fitting that Grande is so good at impressions, since her childhood crush is the king of them. She’s been smitten with Jim Carrey since she was a kid, and over the years the two have formed an unlikely friendship. They worked together on Carrey’s show “Kidding,” and each gushed about how great the experience was. Around the same time, Grande got a tattoo of Carrey’s most famous line from his hit 1998 film “The Truman Show.” The pair has stayed in touch, occasionally chatting over email or on social media. It’s a surprisingly heartwarming story.
#7: She Was Hit by a Hockey Puck – Twice
When Grande was growing up in Boca Raton, she and her family were huge fans of the Florida Panthers NHL team. She even sang the National Anthem at a game when she was eight years old. But she caught the team’s attention well before that. When she was just five, she was hit in the wrist by a flying puck during a game. Puck injuries can be deadly, but luckily, Grande was just bruised. The crazy thing is that the accident happened while Grande’s mom was talking to a reporter about the first time she was hit by a puck. Considering that she was showered with gifts from the players and got to ride the Zamboni, we’re guessing she wasn’t too traumatized by the incidents.
#6: She Has a Ton of Tattoos and One Is a Mistranslation of Japanese
We wouldn’t be laughing at this if Grande didn’t have a sense of humor about it herself. Ari fans already know that she has a bunch of tattoos. But one of her tats has a slightly embarrassing story. To celebrate the release of her single “7 Rings,” Grande got a tattoo of the song’s title on her hand in Japanese kanji. Or at least, she thought she did. The tattoo actually said, “shichirin,” which is a small grill. Grande got help from her Japanese tutor to fix it, but that didn’t quite work out either. When the old news story about the hockey pucks went viral, Grande jokingly posted that she still looks the same, except for a hand tattoo that says, “BBQ grill finger.”
#5: She Wears a Ponytail Because of Hair Damage
If you pictured Ariana Grande in your mind right now, you’d probably envision her in her signature high ponytail. It turns out there’s a reason she wore that look so often. In 2014, Grande responded to rude fans who complained that she always had the same hairstyle. In a Facebook post, she wrote that constantly bleaching and dying her hair to play Cat Valentine had seriously damaged it. She was self-conscious about how it looked, and felt that wigs looked terrible too. So she opted for extensions and disguised them in a ponytail. We hope whoever gave her a hard time about her hairstyle is ashamed of themselves. We think Grande looks fabulous even with no hair.
#4: She’s Vegan
Grande has a huge heart for animals. She went vegan all the way back in 2013, and she’s stuck with it. She’s also a major advocate for adopting homeless animals. While on tour in 2015, she invited local shelters to bring adoptable dogs to the venues, and she paid the adoption fee for every one that found a home. Of course, she also has a house full of rescued dogs of her own. She even encouraged her followers to avoid SeaWorld after learning about how captive orcas are abused from the documentary “Blackfish.” Now that’s a star who stands up for what she believes in.
#3: She Had a “Jaws”-Themed Birthday Party
Grande isn’t shy about her love for horror movies. She’s even used Halloween as an opportunity to dress up as some classic horror monsters. And she went all out with the prosthetics and makeup. Apparently, her love for scary movies goes all the way back to the beginning. Her second birthday party had a “Jaws” theme. Needless to say, it didn’t help her make friends with other toddlers. She was also known to run around the house in a Freddy Krueger mask wielding a hockey stick. All this makes us wonder, is there a horror movie role on the horizon?
#2: She Holds 20 Guinness World Records
When Grande’s song “Positions” debuted at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, it was her fifth single to do so. That incredible achievement was a world record, and it’s far from her only one. She has nineteen others. Her single “7 Rings” was the most streamed track on Spotify in one week, and at one point, she had more subscribers than any other female musician on YouTube. She was also the first solo performer to have songs at spots one, two, and three on the U.S. singles chart at the same time. She’s also the sixth most-followed person on Instagram, with over 376 million followers. Yet somehow it feels like she’s just getting started.

#1: The First Song She Remembers Singing Is “Over the Rainbow”
Grande has had a strong connection to “The Wizard of Oz” long before she was cast as Glinda in “Wicked.” In a 2012 interview, she revealed that “Over the Rainbow” is the first song she ever remembers singing. At her benefit concert following the Manchester Arena bombing in 2017, she chose to close out the show with that song. She later explained that it was her grandfather’s favorite song. She even played Dorothy on an April Fool’s Day episode of “Victorious.” It seems that Ariana and Oz were always meant to be connected.
