Top 10 Funniest Dances in Just Dance

Top 10 Funniest Dances in Just Dance
VOICE OVER: Rebecca Brayton WRITTEN BY: Tal Fox
Who knew "Just Dance" was such a great source of comedy? For this list, we'll be looking at the greatest “Just Dance” routines that leave us as much breathless from laughter as they do from keeping up with the choreography. Our countdown includes “Barbie Girl” by Aqua, “Make It Jingle” by Big Freedia, “Ievan Polkka” by Hatsune Miku, and more!

#10: “Barbie Girl” by Aqua (1997)
Various

If you enjoyed playing with your Barbies as a kid, good news! This dance gives you a chance to be the doll! These moves are as cheesy as the iconic 90s hit and truly encapsulate the Barbie franchise’s rose-tinted world. It’s hard not to go over the top when you watch the two emphatic dancers really go for it and hit every move with the utmost vigor. Plus, watching them try and reimagine certain lyrics into something more innocent is pretty adorable. It’s a solid choice if you want a good giggle with a friend.

#9: “Ghostbusters” by Ray Parker Jr. (1984)
“Just Dance 2014” (2013)

Ever wonder how Slimer from "Ghostbusters" would look dancing? Wonder no more! In fact, you can play as The Green Ghost and lead the Ghostbusters in this energetic routine. Regardless of which character you choose, there's no denying that it's practically impossible to draw your eyes away from the green blob. There's a great bit where it looks like he’s chasing the others, and the part where he appears to possess them is a hoot. Want more ghoulishly good choreography? How about a zombie disco dancing to "I Will Survive?" They couldn't have chosen a more hysterically ironic pairing. But hey, who doesn't love to disco?

#8: “Oishii Oishii” by Wanko Ni Mero Mero (2016)
“Just Dance 2017” (2016)

The music, the characters, the choreography, it’s all so sweet it bypasses saccharine and circles around to funny. We can’t tell you what’s happening here because we’re not too sure, but we know we can’t stop grinning ear to ear whenever we select this routine. You can choose to be the lady with pink hair, in which case, you need to muster up the energy of a Saturday morning children’s television presenter. Or, you can be the little azure blob and just wave your arms around a little bit. The moves are simple enough, which means you and your buddy get to completely indulge in the number’s overly cloying vibes.

#7: “Ievan Polkka” by Hatsune Miku (2007)
“Just Dance 2016” (2015)

Did you know that this song is actually an old Finnish tune? But, in the hands of Hatsune Miku, it became one of the most popular and viral Vocaloid covers of all time. Indeed, this is the version that inspired the “Just Dance” choreography, and you can even see parallels between the two dances — right down to the vegetable in her hand. What’s the deal with that anyway? Should we put some sort of spring onion or leek on our shopping list for the next time we want to play? One more question: does this count as one of our five a day?

#6: “The Fox (What Does the Fox Say?)” by Ylvis (2013)
“Just Dance 2015” (2014)

In 2013, Norwegian comedy duo Ylvis had so many of us wondering, “What Does the Fox Say?” that it topped YouTube’s most viral videos of that year. Subsequently, “Just Dance” gifted us with not just one but two kooky dance routines to the electronic dance-pop jam. The first one is led by a fox with two backing dancers who perform some bold and energetic moves, including some hip action you’ve just gotta let loose and go for. The alternative Campfire version is even goofier, with some doubly exaggerated steps and some great animal impressions. We gotta say, we do miss the fox costume, though. Whichever you choose, you’re in for a wild time.

#5: “Kung Fu Fighting (Dave Ruffy/Mark Wallis Remix)” by Carl Douglas (2004)
“Just Dance 2” (2010)

We all know that the best kind of battle is a dance battle, which is kinda what we get here. Taking us into an old-school-style game within the game, this routine incorporates dance steps with Kung Fu moves. Just think “Karate Kid,” but if the training involved wiggling your hips a little more. (Or, a lot more.) To get total hilarity, you definitely want to find yourself a dance partner, especially for those gold moves. Even if you don’t dance with “expert timing,” you’re in for a laugh; the song and dance don’t take themselves too seriously, and neither should you. Just be careful not to butt heads at the end there. Ouch.

#4: “Infernal Gallop (Can-Can)” by The Just Dance Orchestra (1858)
“Just Dance 2020” (2019)

Well, here’s a version of the “Can-Can” you won’t be seeing at the Moulin Rouge. We don’t know what’s sillier, the ever-changing animal faces, the absurd backdrop, or the animal noises overlayed on top of this world-renowned composition. And that’s all before we even get to the choreography! The steps are quite out there and require high energy and the utmost commitment. It’s so utterly ridiculous that it leaves you no choice but to go absolute ham! It’s also a great workout; you get in your cardio thanks to the uptempo and you get to work your abs from laughing so hard. We can-can’t get enough of it.

#3: “Make It Jingle” by Big Freedia (2016)
“Just Dance 2018” (2017)

The “Just Dance” franchise isn’t short on funky festive dance routines, that’s for sure. Anyone else remember “Crazy Christmas” on “Just Dance 2”? Surfer Santa, rocker Santa, or cowboy… Take your pick! Still, they only come in a close second to the reindeer from “Just Dance 2018,” who loves to “make it jingle.” Yes, it really is a unique experience mirroring a twerking reindeer. What makes it even more out-of-the-box is that this isn’t exactly the content we’ve become accustomed to from the franchise. Nonetheless, the joy we get is practically a Christmas gift in itself. Who needs other reindeer when you can sleigh this hard on your own?

#2: “Bum Bum Tam Tam (Alternate)” by MC Fioti, Future, J Balvin, Stefflon Don & Juan Magan (2017)
“Just Dance 2019” (2018)

This dance tells quite the story! Two scientists are hard at work. Well, they’re actually busy fighting over what looks to be a control panel, unaware that some pesky acorns have infiltrated their highly-sophisticated popcorn machine until they’re about to drown in popped kernels! Yes, that’s quite an elaborate tale for a seated “Just Dance” routine. The moves entail typing, banging on the table, thinking faces, and… a lot of hand waving? Anyway, this routine is the perfect opportunity to goof off with minimal effort. We only hope their story gets a sequel some time in the future because we want to know if they escaped their popcorn prison.

Before we unveil our top pick, here are a few honorable mentions.

#1: “Beep Beep I'm a Sheep” by LilDeuceDeuce feat. Black Gryph0n & TomSka (2017)
“Just Dance 2018” (2017)

If you ever wanted to know how to “Beep Beep [Like] a Sheep,” “Just Dance 2018” has you covered. No, we’re not kidding; there are instructions and everything. This novelty track, by British content creator, TomSka, was first released on April Fool’s Day in 2017, becoming a viral hit. Was how to dance like a sheep the most googled question that year or something? Cynicism aside, this is a genuinely hilarious routine that gives you an idea of what a dance party on a farm might look like. It’s so silly but surprisingly good fun and unbaaaa-lievably entertaining. If you want a good laugh, this is the dance for ewe.
