Top 10 Funniest Moments In Dave From Season 1

Top 10 Funniest Moments In Dave From Season 1
VOICE OVER: Phoebe de Jeu WRITTEN BY: Nick Spake
This TV series has taken the world by storm thanks to its unique brand of comedy. For this list, we'll be looking at the most uproarious moments from the first season of this FXX series. Our countdown includes Dave at the Urologist, Kourtney Kardashian, Dave Goes to Prison, and more!

#10: Dave at the Urologist

“The Gander”

The pilot’s opening scene sets a perfect tone for the awkward, unfiltered, and hilarious ride that we’re in store for. Dave Burd’s stage name seems self-explanatory enough. At the urologist, though, Dave paints an all-too vivid picture of the birth defect that helped inspire the Lil Dicky moniker. We’ll spare you some of the grosser details, but the bewildered look on the urologist’s face says it all. Like his TV counterpart, Burd was born with a similar condition and underwent multiple surgeries. Not everybody would be open about this sort of thing, but Burd spins his struggles and insecurities into comedic gold here. The urologist also delivers the laughs through the subtlest of facial expressions and line delivery, especially his response to Dave’s back acne.

#9: Meeting Benny Blanco

“PIBE”

Benny Blanco might not be the most iconic celebrity who’s dropped by the show, but you’ll definitely remember his name after this epic introduction. Dave shares a fair deal in common with Benny, both coming from Jewish backgrounds and specializing in hip hop. Although Dave is hesitant about meeting with the record producer, he has a change of tune upon learning that Benny worked with Kanye West - which is true! Before Dave can even finish texting that he’s outside, Benny bursts out of his house with a freestyle about buttermilk, wasabi, and what he’d like others to do with his various body parts. Benny rants for almost thirty seconds before even mentioning his name, leaving Dave and the audience in an impressed state of disbelief.

#8: Back Acne

“Dave’s First”

As Dave’s manager, roommate, and friend, Mike goes above and beyond the call of duty. The two get especially close in this scene where Mike casually rubs lotion on Dave’s back acne… in the tub. It makes sense that Dave would strip down for this activity, but we’re not sure why Mike took his shirt off too. Mike takes Dave’s acne as seriously as a dermatologist would, even keeping a log on his “baby boy’s” progress. Unfortunately, Dave doesn’t seem nearly as invested, setting them back by eating cheese. On other shows, you don’t always see male platonic friends interact in such an intimate way. That’s part of what makes “Dave” so refreshing, although Mike’s level of commitment to his client is bizarrely hysterical.

#7: Running Over a Rabbit

“Ally’s Toast”

Driving Ally to her sister’s wedding in Napa Valley, Dave accidentally hits a rabbit. Dave isn’t fazed, but Ally couldn’t be more broken up. With the vet off the table, Ally insists on putting the little guy out of its misery. In an oddly relatable moment, Ally attempts to direct Dave as he puts the car in reverse. This only makes matters worse, however, as Dave crushes its ears. Finally, Dave charges his car at the bunny, but - in a priceless bit of editing - we jump ahead to the couple back on the road. Ally is still devastated while Dave loses himself in his music. Like the bunny, Dave and Ally’s relationship endures a slow demise, and this incident marks the beginning of the end.

#6: Knock 'Em Dead

“Dave’s First”

If you think the rabbit’s fate was grim, this episode revolves around the passing of a child. Lil Dicky finds himself in an uncomfortable situation when he’s asked to perform at little John’s memorial. Dave has reservations since he’s never performed live, his material is a tad risqué for such a somber event, and he’s sick of people comparing him to Macklemore. On top of all that, a child’s memorial isn’t exactly the ideal event to make a live debut, but how do you say no to two grieving parents? Unearthing the dark comedy in a tragedy, Dave ultimately sees the opportunity to bring John’s loved ones some comfort. He isn’t sure whether to feel relieved or rejected when Macklemore shows up, bumping his set.

#5: Kourtney Kardashian

“PIBE”

Dave is starstruck when Benny Blanco introduces him to Justin Bieber, who invites him to a houseparty. At Biebs’ place, Dave manages to keep his cool when he crosses paths with Kourtney Kardashian. Butting in on Kourtney’s conversation about childbirth, Dave contemplates what it would be like if he could get pregnant. This sparks a chat about Thomas Beatie, a transgender man who made headlines after being artificially inseminated and giving birth to his first child. The story may be more than a decade old, but still makes for engaging banter. In the social hierarchy, it’s safe to say that Kourt is higher up than Dave. Yet, the two hit it off in surprisingly laidback fashion, even as they get into some pretty graphic descriptions.

#4: Wood Shirts

“What Wood You Wear?”

You never know what you’re going to come across at the flea market, but a wooden shirt is among the most surreal concepts we’ve heard of. While it’s impressive that the proprietor made them splinter-free, the shirts look heavy, you can’t move your arms while wearing them, and we can’t imagine why anymore would prefer wood over cloth. Nevertheless, Trippie Redd’s nephew is drawn to the wood shirts, turning into a progressive Pinocchio, as Dave describes him. Even after the kid falls over and struggles to get up, he desires a pair of wooden socks to go with his new look. In a way, it’s funnier that we learn little about the craftsman, but a part of us wants to know how he re-entered society.

#3: The Next Kanye West

“PIBE”

Dave is usually a neurotic mess, but he’s at his most composed for a meeting with a label. His newfound confidence only makes his presentation sound more outlandish. Although Dave is generally seen as a comedic rapper, he wants to be taken seriously. He even goes as far to call himself the next Kanye West… except whiter. Dave also brings visuals to the pitch, showing off his cuddly side, his physical side, and how far he’s come since his awkward youth. Throw in Eminem, Zayn Malik, and you have… whatever that is. Dave doesn’t make the strongest case for being the next Kanye. If this meeting proves anything, though, it’s that he may be the funniest rapper working today.

#2: D Is for Disaster… And Something Else

“Ally’s Toast”

From the moment they hit the road in this episode, it’s clear that Dave and Ally’s relationship is headed for a big blowout. This isn’t what we anticipated, however. Carrots are usually good for you, but Dave’s body isn’t used to vegetables of any kind. On a hike, Dave’s digestive system turns against him. Ally underestimates how dire the situation is as Dave waddles around in panic. Unable to contain the storm brewing inside his pants, Dave unleashes like a chocolate fountain into the pond. Dave may not reinvent rap music, but he reinvented something that day. The only thing funnier than the scene itself is the making of footage as the crew attempts to bring as much authenticity as possible to the special effects.

A Sweet Moment That Was Fun While It Lasted

#1: Dave Goes to Prison

“Jail”

After the previous episode ended on a surprisingly sad note, we all wondered how the season finale would commence. This isn’t at all what we expected, but the result is the show’s funniest and most epic musical moment to date. At a live show, Dave jokingly exposes a close friend of Lil Dicky’s. Before Dave knows it, he’s arrested, sentenced to three years, and struggling to survive. This unusually catchy rap lasts for several minutes, leaving us to wonder if what we’re watching is real. As it turns out, this is just a song that Dave is pitching. Dave is silenced around the same time that he gets on his knees, but we still want to hear the remaining six minutes.
