Top 10 Funniest Psych Moments

Top 10 Funniest Psych Moments
VOICE OVER: Jennifer Silverman WRITTEN BY: Britney Lucas
We're as psyched as you are for this list! Welcome to MsMojo, and today we're looking at different scenes from the beloved comedy-drama series that make us laugh out loud. Our countdown includes Broadway baby, piecing it together, Gus gets groovy, and more!

#10: Broadway Baby
“Psych: the Musical”

The classic way to solve a crime? Singing a song, of course! It seems that seemingly psychic detective Shawn Spencer can handle anything thrown his way, even a Broadway-style performance. This gleeful moment is not only amusing for its clever use of Shawn's running quote: “I’ve heard it both ways,” but also because it doesn’t shy away from the power of the duet. Audience favorite jokes mix together with jovial music to create the perfect storm. Especially when that storm is with Shawn’s frenemy Detective Lassiter, whose stony persona mixed with frivolous dance moves equals an insanely epic scene that we have on replay.

#9: The Canadian Culprit
“Extradition: British Columbia”

Get your ski shoes out because we’re headed to Canada! Ski mishaps reign when Shawn and Gus find themselves face to face with elusive art thief Pierre Despereaux and believe they can bring him to justice. Shawn’s quirky brashness is portrayed strongly in this moment, and we love to see it! He will stop at nothing to reach his goals, and this scene emphasizes that to the extreme. That being said, it's insanely humorous watching our playful heroes in a frenzy while struggling to keep it together. The duo’s inability to control their skis makes for a spirited moment of physical comedy that left us in stitches—and they probably had to get some after that too….

#8: Dazzle & Stretch
“9 Lives”

When Shawn is possessed by a spirit, that is, the spirit of showbiz, he impersonates a victim with an absolutely ridiculous display in the name of solving a case. The sheer insanity of Shawn’s choice to make all the world his stage, including the police station, is a complete riot! His snazzy presentation is extremely out of place in the best way possible, and it’s a wonderful example of Shawn’s wild personality contrasted with the stoic personas of the detectives around him. This incredible duality, plus Shawn’s dedication to the bit, left us feeling dazzled beyond belief!

#7: Piecing it Together
“Last Night Gus”

Uhhh, what happened last night? That’s what the Psych gang is trying to figure out when they wake up with no memory of the night before and a murder that leads right back to them. In this rare moment, a majority of the main players lose whatever cool demeanor they may have had and descend into a world of delightful chaos. Not only is this scene painfully reminiscent of real life, but it also takes some of the more serious characters, like Detective Lassiter, and pushes them out of their comfort zone. This masterful parody episode takes a relatable premise and kicks it up a notch, fabricating a scene filled with slapstick comedy and absurd circumstances that we, unlike Shawn and Gus, will totally remember!

#6: Disco Makes a Comeback
“Disco Didn’t Die. It Was Murdered!”

Can you dig it? When an old case from the ‘70s gets overturned, Shawn and Gus get jivin’ to find the true culprit and set things right. The humor comes out in full force as they embrace their inner flower power, along with Shawn’s dad Henry, to inevitably help them solve the case with style. As a character who rarely gets involved, Henry’s inclusion in the silliness is truly sensational! This episode really emphasizes the eccentric methods that Shawn and Gus employ to solve cases from the far-out jokes to the nifty throwbacks. The folly of this blast to the past is hysterical for its foolishness in the face of serious matters and off the hook style that’s totally radical to the max!

#5: Shawn & the Stars
“From the Earth to Starbucks”

Shawn often goes undercover as a so-called psychic detective, but his short stunt as an planetarium guide shines just as bright as the sun. Literally. The combination of Shawn’s made-up facts about the universe and his comical problem-solving outlines a scene brimming with delight. While Shawn is always quick on his feet, this moment playfully shows that things don’t always go according to plan. The commitment to staying undercover through improvised theatrics had us bursting with laughter—unlike those poor space center guests. Plus, the birth of Gus’s iconic pickup line about Pluto feels like the comedic cherry on top! [“You heard about Pluto? That’s messed up, right?”]

#4: Gus Gets Groovy
“High Top Fade-Out”

The spirit of a capella reigns supreme when Gus must team up with his college singing group to find out who murdered one of the former members. Because Shawn has somewhat of an odd career path, he isn’t easily shocked. So, getting to see his amazement at Gus’s secret past is incredibly fun, and it’s an extremely refreshing shift for the duo! While Shawn is typically the one with surprising antics, Gus finally gets back at him in this thrilling episode. The chaos leads to a side-splitting encounter that puts Shawn’s vocal qualities to the test in a remarkable way. This, plus Shawn’s later brilliant idea for the group name “Quarter Black,” makes him a capella worthy in our book.

#3: The “Karate” Kid (or Man)
“Romeo and Juliet and Juliet”

While Shawn Spencer is gifted in some ways, his fighting skills definitely need a bit of brushing up. When he must go head-to-head against a pro martial artist, Shawn uses his “extensive” combat background in a farce to beat him. And by extensive, we mean one lesson. Shawn’s inability to fight against his opponent, and his overconfidence in himself never fails to make us chuckle. This wonderful visual comedy blends with campy clichés of ninja warriors to end up with an on-the-nose masterpiece. While Shawn may believe he’s a martial arts master, the fence that he failed to jump might just prove otherwise. Practice makes perfect, and maybe a few more lessons.

#2: Scene of the Crime
“Office Space”

Pro tip: don’t tamper with a crime scene. This is solid advice that Gus unfortunately didn’t follow when he came upon his deceased boss in his office. Because Gus is typically the level-headed foil to Shawn’s huge personality, it’s positively gleeful seeing him lose his cool! And things somehow get even more hysterical once Shawn gets involved to help him pick up the pieces. It’s hard not to laugh when a helping hand only makes everything so much worse. The situation the pair find themselves in is absolutely priceless as almost everything that could go wrong manages to happen. Believe us, this episode is truly to die for.

Before we unveil our top pick, here are a few honorable mentions.

Screaming Spirits, “Scary Sherry: Bianca’s Toast”
Shawn & Gus Can’t Handle Their Spirits!

Magic & Mischief, “Lock, Stock, Some Smoking Barrels, and Burton Guster’s Goblet of Fire”
Pierre Despereaux Is Back, but This Time in London & Hilarity Ensues

Bite Me, “This Episode Sucks”
When a Vampire—We Mean, Suspect—Is on the Loose, Shawn & Gus Must Go Undercover

#1: The Audition of a Lifetime
“American Duos”

Shawn SpenStar and Gus T.T. Showbiz are the hottest new faces on tv! In this spectacular scene, Shawn and Gus go undercover on reality show “American Duos” in an attempt to uncover a plot against judge Nigel St. Nigel. Tim Curry guest stars as this crude judge who expertly wields witty remarks like humorous daggers that cut right through our funny bone! But Shawn and Gus’s undercover audition is the real star here. Their rendition of “Take on Me” by A-ha is wonderfully horrible and the blank reactions from the judges are killer. Their determination, despite being awful, displays the playful nature of the show that keeps us coming back. Nigel may have been a harsh judge, but they’re definitely the winners in our hearts!
