Top 10 Funniest The Goldbergs Moments

Top 10 Funniest The Goldbergs Moments
VOICE OVER: Samantha Clinch WRITTEN BY: Tal Fox
It was 1980-something and the Goldbergs were up to their usual hijinks. For this list, we'll be looking at all the times this lively family made us laugh out loud. Our countdown includes Barry keeps the party going, the cheesesteak adventure, a lesson in Barry-isms, and more!

#10: Beverly & Murray’s Fight Gets Out of Control
“For Your Own Good”

Murray Goldberg is a man of habit. He loves routine and heaven help anyone who tries to advocate for change. Despite being well aware of this, Beverly decides that it’s time for a new chair. How dare she, right? He retaliates by removing her stove and replacing it with a microwave. This escalates into a heated back and forth with the pair removing household items deemed essential by the other, you know, for their own good. It all comes to a head, so to speak, when Beverly’s bangs even get caught up in the crossfire. Beverly and Murray have some interesting exchanges over the series, but this has to be one of the funniest.

#9: “Who You Gonna Telephone?”
“Who Are You Going to Telephone?”

One of the most endearing parts of the series is the relationship between Adam and his Pops. They share such a tight bond and no one indulges Adam’s interests more. So it’s only too funny when Al arrives for Halloween dressed as a ghost...fella? He even gets the famous catchphrase almost right. The hilarity of that moment pays off as Adam decides to forgo trick-or-treating with Pops, a decision he will soon regret. After a disastrous night, he realizes that it would have been better to be a ghostfella all along. As the iconic theme song plays, the pair head out on their candy-filled adventure, followed by a Beverly-shaped ghost.

#8: Adam & Barry’s Prank Battle
“The Adam Bomb”

If you have siblings, you know how out of hand a prank can get. Even so, did you ever reach Barry and Adam’s level? Yep, one prank in, and things accelerate beyond control. A castle for a shoe, baseball cards for a castle, and perhaps worst of all Adam’s video camera. Well, that’s until Adam goes for Barry’s relationship, and then it’s time for the A-Bomb. Just as it seems like this war has no end in sight, Barry has a change of heart. We guess that watching David Hasselhoff perform as the Great Wall of China falls, and Russia reunites, will change a man.

#7: Barry Keeps The Party Going
“Livin’ on a Prayer”

As in many TV shows and movies, as soon as the parents go out of town, the kids throw a party. Barry spends the night trying to be a hero only to have his dreams crushed when his parents come home early. But for once, Murray shows some compassion toward his son. He decides that he can wait an extra ten minutes before unleashing consequences on his rule-breaking kids. With his boombox in hand, Barry proves that there really isn’t anyone like him. He might not be the best dancer, but he sure is entertaining. We wonder what the real Barry Goldberg made of his moves.

#6: Barry’s Creepy Collection of Sculptures
“Lainey Loves Lionel”

It was 1980-something and Lionel Richie’s “Hello” had taken the music world by storm. And according to Barry, the music video was super romantic too. While the lady in Richie’s video is a talented artist, the same can’t be said for the middle Goldberg child. He hopes to impress Lainey with a sculpture of her face, but each attempt is more disturbing than the last. Nothing is more horrifying than seeing a room full of so-called Lainey sculptures. Poor Barry, all he wanted was to show Lainey how he felt about her - but instead, he created this nightmarish hilarity. Well, it’s the thought that counts, right?

#5: The Cheesesteak Adventure
“Adam Spielberg”

In this season five “Indiana Jones” inspired-episode, Barry bets his dad that he knows where to find the best cheesesteak ever. The stakes, pun intended, are high as father and son set out to find the “Hoagie Grail.” Only, we don’t recall Indy getting lost on his way to New Jersey or needing to pull over to go to the bathroom. We also don’t remember the archaeologist locking his keys in a sandwich shop. Barry sure made a few poor decisions along the way. But if you were looking for an episode that would make you laugh out loud, you chose wisely.

#4: The Triple-Dog Dare
“A Christmas Story”

Jealousy rears its ugly head when Barry starts spending more time with his girlfriend, Lainey. Knowing that he won’t be able to resist, Adam challenges Barry to a Triple-Dog Dare. As Barry likes to remind everyone, he was born without the fear gene. That proves to be unlucky for him on this occasion, although it provides plenty of amusement for us. Sure, Adam’s dare goes a frostbite too far, but we guess that it does force Barry to spend time with his little brother. Especially after he exacts his revenge. If things were frosty between the brothers before, they were pretty much frozen solid now.

#3: Erica Channels Jeanie Bueller for a Memorable Encounter
“Barry Goldberg’s Day Off”

Movies from the ‘80s are pretty epic and “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off” is arguably one of the best. So we can totally understand why Barry and Adam would want to spend a day in Ferris’ shoes. But you could argue that no one throws themselves into the film more than Erica. Like Jeanie Bueller, she ends up at a police station for questioning after a misunderstanding. Also like Jeanie, she ends up chatting with a delinquent who just happens to be played by none-other-than Charlie Sheen himself. When he’s finally released, he delivers this brilliant one-liner as a nod to his role in the original.

#2: A Lesson in Barry-isms
“The Circle of Driving”

We love Barry Goldberg, there’s really no one quite like him. He approaches everything in the most Barry-esque way imaginable. That being said, we probably wouldn’t want to get in a car with him behind the wheel. Something his father finds out the hard way. Barry is stubborn and has an unwavering determination. So even when his dad tries to take control, it’s not going to happen. Barry makes that abundantly and hysterically clear. Still, he gets his chance to prove himself after Pops crashes the Trans Am into a burger restaurant’s drive-thru. Like many of these scenarios, this one’s rooted in real events too.

#1: A Birthday to Remember
“Dinner With The Goldbergs”

If your family is as loud and crazy as the Goldbergs, you can relate to this episode hard. All Geoff wants is to surprise Erica with a special birthday dinner. However, he has no idea what he’s let himself in for by inviting her family as well. This episode is filled with lots of laugh-out-loud moments, from choosing the perfect table, swapping food with other customers or Pops getting acquainted with other unsuspecting diners. Well, he did want the night to be memorable - and thanks to the Goldbergs’ utter chaos, it certainly was. Still, nothing’s quite as funny as when Geoff finally loses his cool.
