Top 10 Video Games with Crafting Sometimes in video games all you need is a workbench, a few pieces of wood and a reliable blueprint to make something special. Welcome to WatchMojo.com, and today we’ll be counting down the Top 10 Video Games with Crafting in them. For this list we gathered together some of the many games that allow you to collect materials and use them towards constructing weapons, items and more. Bare in mind that games like LittleBigPlanet and Super Mario Maker that don't require you to use up resources will be omitted from this list.

#10: “Dead Island” (2011)

While we could have gone with Techland’s more recent survival horror game Dying Light, we decided to go with the studio's first attempt at the Zombie genre with Dead Island. As one of 4 survivors trapped on a tropical island you're given the opportunity to improve your weapons by searching the island for blueprints in order to use some of that extra loot you're carrying to create mods for them. Not only can these help in improving their damage and durability but they can also add effects such as shock, poison, fire and even explosive.

#9: “Rust” (2013) (Alpha)

In this open world survival game players are dropped into a vast wilderness and are left with nothing but a rock to help them with gathering basic materials. As they progress they can craft both weapons and structures out of what they've scavenge but it’s only by working with others and forming your own clan that you can hope to survive against other players who are not as friendly. Not only does this game present a realistic experience about forming bonds in order to survive but it also lets you and your companions use your imagination to craft some amazing structures that can help to make your group into the most feared in the land.

Surviving in a post-apocalyptic America is not an easy thing, especially when you have to contend with both humans and infected alike. However for Joel and Ellie, the best way to get the better of those that want you dead is to craft something and prove that brains always trumps brawn. With just a few pieces of scrap you can create a hand full of survivalist tools from Health Kits, to Molotovs to even smoke bombs. However it's not just the campaign where crafting is important as it plays a huge part within the game's multiplayer too as you and your team fight to secure supplies in order to come out on top over the opposing team.

#7: “Terraria” (2011)

In this popular 2D game, you are dropped into a flat world filled with both wonders and deadly creatures that linger both above and below the ground. While you may be able to get by during the day, at night it becomes a much different story unless you build yourself a well fortified home. As you explore both the surface and depths of the world you’ll uncover all kinds of materials that will not only help in protecting you from the monsters of the night but will also allow you to create all sorts of things from furniture, to flasks, to weapons and armour, there is almost no end.

As the grandson or granddaughter of a recently deceased relative, you are handed down a small plot of land located in the peaceful area of Stardew Valley. While the game starts out with you mainly farming, you’ll start to discover other activities in this treasure trove of a game, namely, crafting. As you gather up more and more resources you’ll turn your farm into a lush fertile land, as well as open the door for other ventures such as mining, bee keeping and fishing. It's the simple things in life.

When it come to slaying some the most savage monsters in this beloved RPG series, you may need to equip yourself with the finest weapons and armour around. While purchasing your gear is an option, that stuff doesn’t offer much protection. In these games you set off to hunt and kill monster after monster, caring up parts of their body and crafting their scales or fur into your own armor, you know: PETA’s Worst Nightmare. On top of that, food, potions, bombs and other items are there to be crafted from whatever plants and insects you find, meaning you’re really living off the land to snag that perfect Rathalos set.

When it comes to crafting some of the most original and bizarre weapons in video games, Dead Rising 2 is among the greatest. While using most of the everyday shopping mall and casino props provides plenty of laughs when used on the hordes of undead, it’s when you combine some of these items that you are able to create some of video games most ridiculous weapons. As you continue to move forward and explore the infested Fortune City you’ll discover all sorts of combinations, from basics like the Spiked Bat, to room cleaners like the Blambow, to completely ridiculous ones like the Paddlesaw. The undead better start running.

Though many would have wanted more quest variety and a better dialogue system, they still would probably agree that the crafting in Fallout 4 was certainly robust. Bethesda finally found even more use for all that spare loot we keep picking up, by having players use them to craft something new in the latest outing of this apocalyptic franchise. Though upgrading gear and cooking up food and chems was engaging, it was the newly introduced building mechanics that had us using up all that spare loot to turn the many settlements of the commonwealth into thriving communities. This wouldn't be the end however as Bethesda would later release multiple DLC packs, adding in such things as robots, arenas and even our very own Vault.

This open world survival game has already taken much of the gaming community by storm thanks to its life like prehistoric world, it’s survivalist gameplay mechanics and its way of turning your neanderthal like character into a crafting survivalist. As you continue to explore the world and upgrade your character you’ll craft all sorts of neat stuff from simple homes, to various weapons and tools, to even building saddles so as to ride your tamed creatures, now is that not the coolest thing or what? You can even build large scale bases with automated defenses to keep out roaming dino’s or other players. When it comes to crafting whatever your mind can conceive, what else could have taken the top spot for this list? A real game changer, Minecraft allowed for players to craft a whole assortment of tools and armor, all of which can be used to mine tougher minerals to build impressive looking structures. For the more hardcore players out there, you can also enchant intricate potions for extra buffs or create intricate circuits with redstone.
