Top 10 Games That Are Turning 10 This Year (2017) It’s time to take a trip down gaming’s memory lane. Welcome to WatchMojo.com, and today we’re counting down our picks for the Top 10 Games That Are Turning Ten This Year. For this list, we’ll be looking at the titles that have had a significant impact on gaming since their release in 2007, with priority given to how well the games hold up by today’s standards.

#10: “The Witcher” (2007)

Also in:

8 Times The Witcher Infiltrated Other Games

Based on the book series by the same name, “The Witcher” dealt with some pretty heavy issues, like racism and prejudice, and landed Geralt of Rivia, a half-human hybrid warrior, right in the middle of it all. Although a standard product of the era, with longer loading times and multiple bugs, this open-world RPG still has a special place in our hearts. “The Witcher” gave players some tough moral hurdles to overcome, and its engaging storyline, along with the well-designed world environment, outweigh any other technical issues or design flaws the game has, making this an RPG for the ages.

#9: “Assassin’s Creed” (2007)

Also in:

The Evolution of Assassin's Creed Games

Ever since our very first “Leap of Faith”, we were hooked. Sprinting across 12th Century rooftops as the ancient assassin Altair gave us everything we wanted.... why they had to tie it together with a science-fiction memory macguffin is beyond us. With a beautiful open world to explore and countless enemies to dispatch with a variety of colorful weapons and tactics. Standing out from the usual “run-and-gun” gameplay style, AC showed us the satisfaction of a perfectly timed distraction, and a quick getaway. For a game to make us enjoy slowing down and really appreciating a kill is nothing short of remarkable, and it set the tone for a whole new generation of stealth.

#8: “Mass Effect” (2007)

Also in:

Top 10 Mass Effect Moments

Developed by BioWare, the champions of Western RPGs, “Mass Effect” delivered an immersive sci-fi experience like no other. It took the concept of “player’s choice” to a whole ‘nother level. From combat class to romantic orientation, this game let the player decide it all, even fulfilling the national dream of gettin’ it on with an alien. Although a bit lacking in the combat department, with clunky squad commands and questionable AI, “Mass Effect” more than made up for it in it’s depth of character and story arching, with fans clamoring for a sequel almost immediately. Even amidst the drama surrounding the culmination of the series, “Mass Effect” remains an unforgettable journey.

#7: “Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune” (2007)

Also in:

10 Hidden Secrets in Uncharted Games

The Playstation 3 had a very rough first year with a high price tag and lackluster titles, but “Uncharted” gave Sony fans just what they needed. This tried-and-true tale of a young Nathan Drake, hunting for his ancestor’s lost treasure, is exactly the kind of story that draws you in and doesn’t let go. With adventure, mystery, and a twist ending, we were in love. While the endless waves of enemy pirates may get tiresome at times, the different environments and the stellar AI keep things fresh and interesting. A balanced blend of combat and puzzles, with beautiful artwork and a fast-paced gameplay, this Naughty Dog production gave rise to an entire franchise and beloved videogame icon.

#6: “Crysis” (2007)

Also in:

Crysis 3: Everything You Should Know

For a long time after its release, “Crysis” reigned as king of next-gen graphics, challenging even the beefiest of processors to display its visuals on its highest settings. Add to that an adrenaline-fueled combat system, with critical nanosuit customizations for speed, armor, and stealth being made in real-time, and you were left with what many considered to be the future of first-person shooters. With multiple difficulty levels, and several ways to approach a firefight, this was a game that kept you coming back for more. Thanks to the solid story writing and artwork by the Crytek team, Crysis was an example of PC gaming at its finest.

#5: “Halo 3” (2007)

A quick show of hands, how many of you called in sick the day this game was released? That’s what I thought. Almost no other game series has met with such fan devotion, and no installment more than Halo 3. Fully taking advantage of the Xbox 360’s graphics, Halo 3 brought the epic story of Master Chief to life with revolutionary graphic and technical improvements. Always being known for its couch-gaming multiplayer mode, the franchise really brought the heat with Halo 3, adding in new weapons, vehicles, maps, and abilities. Gloating over your friends with a slow-mo capture of your double kill - priceless. In an era of online multiplayer, games like this kept the age-old traditions alive.

But Super Mario Galaxy does just that, and it’s hailed as one of the greatest instalments of the franchise. Acting as a spiritual successor to Super Mario 64, Galaxy led us on a journey through the stars, with multiple galaxies for The Plumber to jump, spring, fly, spin, and roll his way through. The game also introduced us to an entirely new character in the Super Mario universe, with Rosalina, the cosmic princess. With groundbreaking graphical achievements and revolutionary control schemes, Super Mario Galaxy brought us the future of Mario and platform gaming as a whole.

It’s hard to imagine what FPS’s would look like today without this genre-defining installment in one of the best-selling videogame franchises of all time. Modern Warfare gave us a whole new perspective on a traditional military shooter, mixing in compelling storylines and convincing characters, with some pretty top-notch voice acting thrown in as well. It also introduced gamers to a new and improved multiplayer experience, which helped popularize online competition across the board. Some might even say that Modern Warfare helped introduce gaming as a whole to a more mainstream audience...for better or for worse. Either way, this landmark title changed shooters for everyone.
