Thank heaven we've got these guys looking over us. Welcome to WatchMojo.com, and today we are counting down our picks for Top 10 Gods & Deities in Anime.

For this list we are only considering characters that are recognized as gods in their respective worlds. Also we are excluding the God Hand from “Berserk” as they fall into a grey area.

Top 10 Gods & Deities in Anime

Thank heaven we’ve got these guys looking over us. Welcome to WatchMojo.com, and today we are counting down our picks for Top 10 Gods & Deities in Anime.

For this list we are only considering characters that are recognized as gods in their respective worlds. Also we are excluding the God Hand from “Berserk” as they fall into a grey area.

#10: Aqua

“KonoSuba: God's Blessing on This Wonderful World!” (2016)
Following the adventures of hero Kazuma Satou in a new fantasy world after his untimely passing, Aqua is there to assist him – much to her own chagrin.
She makes the unfortunate transition from god to commoner pretty badly at first, but later warms up and shows fans her cuter side - providing most of the comedic moments in the series.
At least its not all doom-and-gloom for Aqua as she qualifies as a high level archpriest class, proving that she isn’t just a pretty face…most of the time.

#9: Kaguya Otsutsuki

“Naruto: Shippuden” (2007-)
For some, there is no end to what they will do for peace, as is the case for our next entry. Back when the various Shinboi clans were tearing each other apart in an endless war, Kaguya took it upon herself to end it once and for all. Upon ingesting the “God Fruit” she gained the power of chakra and aimed to have peace for all clans. A powerful and corrupted individual, Kaguya quickly lost faith in humanity and was rebranded from saviour to demon. This is why one person can’t have unlimited power, as the madness will soon take hold.

#8: Holo

“Spice and Wolf” (2008-09)
Few animals have the spiritual connections of foxes…and few foxes are quite like Holo. A simple harvest goddess, Holo guaranteed the citizens of the village of Pasloe a successful harvest every year. As the years passed, she slowly faded away until joining traveling merchant and series protagonist Lawrence in his travels. A smart and confident individual, Holo tries her best to satisfy the wishes of those around her. She does also have her vices, as she is known to be quite a drunk. Either way, Holo is a worthy travel companion, so long as you have some apples to spare.

#7: Athena

“Saint Seiya” series (1986-89)
Time to tap into greek mythology. The primary goddess in the “Saint Seiya” series, Athena is one of the gods that reside on Mt. Olympus. Kind and benevolent, Athena’s duty is to protect Earth and select the almighty saints to protect her. Her resolve is not to be questioned, as Athena will protect Earth at all costs. Fun fact, in contrary to her mythological roots, “Saint Seiya’s” Athena has a strict dislike of weapons. Sorry saints, you’ll have to rely on fists to appease her...

#6: Obelisk, Slifer, and Ra

“Yu-Gi-Oh!: Duel Monsters” (2000-04)
Known as the “Egyptian God Cards”, Obelisk the Tormenter, Slifer the Sky Dragon, and the Winged Dragon of Ra are all powerful one-of-a-kind cards that are loosely based off of aforementioned dieties in Egyptian mythology. Incredibly rare and highly destructive, these cards are sought after by many of the main characters throughout “Duel Monsters”, namely Yugi, Kaiba and the malicious Marik. Don’t believe their power? Even having a single one of the set can turn the tide in one move. If your opponent has them, just put your deck away.

#5: Shinigami

“Soul Eater” (2008-09)
When it comes to death gods, our next entry is on the top of the food chain. The creator of the Death Weapon Meister Academy and its primary operator, Shinigami makes it his sole purpose to train new meisters to eliminate evil kishins and madness from the world. Equally terrifying and comical, Shinigami is rather caring for his students and their training but will not hesitate to result to violence. His power is insurmountable, so if you ever cross blades with him, be sure to have your funeral planned and ready.

#4: Truth

“Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood” (2008-09)
Many god’s evolve past their physical bodies, as is the case with our next entry. Encompassing everything and nothing at the same time, Truth is the representation of the consciousness of the world and its inhabitants. Convoluted, I know. Truth appears in a metaphysical form when an Alchemist performs a human transmutation, with its goal maintaining the balance of the universe with the “Law of Equivalent Exchange”. A living reminder of why you don’t bend the rules of alchemy…

#3: Madoka Kaname

“Puella Magi Madoka Magica” (2011)
For those who aren’t lucky enough to be born with the gift, you have to work your way to the top. A naive high schooler and series protagonist, Madoka Kaname is faced with a choice...to become a magical girl and rid the world of the forces of evil or to watch her friends suffer. While we later learn that Madoka is one of a series of Madokas across multiple timelines, Madoka’s current version decides to become a magical girl and becomes the “Ultimate Madoka” - essentially the embodiment of hope in the universe.

#2: Beerus

“Dragon Ball Z” Franchise (1989-)
The “Dragon Ball” series has had some monumental antagonists in the past, but none hold a candle to our silver medalist. Known as the God of Destruction in Universe 7, Beerus is a humanoid cat-like creature that can make even the greatest warriors cower in fear. Trusted with the task of maintaining balance in his sector, which includes Earth, Beerus can easily destroy planets just as a showcase of his power. He can even overpower Goku, which is no easy feat. Beyond the power however, Beerus is rather polite and well mannered when he is in a good mood. Just remember to keep him well fed.

Before we praise at the shrine of our number one god, here are a few honorable mentions.

Teto
“No Game No Life” (2014)

Hestia
“DanMachi” (2015)

Belldandy
“Ah! My Goddess” (1998-99, 05-07)

Deus Ex Machina
“Future Diary” (2011-12)

Ryuk
“Death Note” (2006-07)

Haruhi Suzimiya
“The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzimiya” (2008-09)

#1: Yato

“Noragami” (2014-15)
There are always plenty of humans that want to change their stars, so why can’t a god? Originally known as a “God of Calamity”, Yato has decided to throw his past away and take on the title of “Delivery God”, where he will accept any job for a single yen. This includes eliminating phantoms with his trusty regalia Yukine or… looking for lost cats. Despite his current situation, Yato is rather silly and playful even if this masks his incredible power. Don’t get on his bad side or he will definitely strike you down.
