#10: Gerald ‘Coop’ Cooperberg & Katie
“Wet Hot American Summer” (2001)

When a girl tells her boyfriend all she wants is sex, sex and more sex, it would be hard to imagine her also saying that not getting enough of it is why she wants to break up. But Katie dumps Coop in this summer camp scene from the 2001 satirical comedy, and the result is a hilarious speech about her having needs and him being too nice to satisfy her sexual cravings. This is definitely one breakup that delivers more laughs than tears.

#9: Simon Cooper & Carli D’Amato
“The Inbetweeners Movie” (2011)

Ever tried to dump someone who then seems to take it unusually well? When Carli tells Simon that she is ready to call it quits right after he kisses her and shares how great the past year has been, he seems to just not understand. The laughs inspired by this breakup come not only from Simon’s casual response to getting dumped by walking home whistling, but they also continue as he suddenly breaks into loud sobbing once he’s alone in his room.

#8: Scott ‘Scotty’ Thomas & Fiona
“EuroTrip “(2004)

Ridley Scott Says Neill Blomkamp's ALIEN 5 Movie is DEAD – The CineFiles Ep. 19

Getting dumped on graduation day is bad - getting dumped on graduation day in front of your parents and grandparents while they film the entire thing? Well, that’s just funny. This breakup perfectly sets up the rest of this quirky teen comedy, and starts the audience off with a laugh as Scotty cries into a letter jacket and calls out Fiona’s name in “A Streetcar Named Desire” fashion.

#7: Andie Anderson & Benjamin Barry
“How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days” (2003)

One way to take a breakup from a tearjerker to a gutbuster is to add in an impromptu karaoke number with some perfectly adlibbed verses. This scene in which Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey’s characters let a roomful of people know exactly why the other is so vain, with several not so subtle jabs, is a zany breakup moment that is high on laughs, and Carly Simon-inspired insults.

#6: Quincy & Jamie Rellis; Dylan Harper & Kayla
“Friends with Benefits” (2011)

In this romantic comedy, we are treated to a double dose of dumping and hilarity in one of the first scenes of the movie. While Dylan tries to defend one of his sexual preferences to Kayla as she tells him it’s over and he thanks her from saving him from a John Mayer concert, Justin Timberlake and Emma Stone offer up several laughs. Meanwhile, Andy Samberg and Mila Kunis add in their own humor as Jamie critiques Quincy’s outfit and finds out that her eyes freak him out.

#5: Angie Anderson & Dale Denton
“Pineapple Express” (2008)

Relationships are hard enough, without the stress of hiding from killers and the stress of college starting in the fall. So it’s no surprise that Angie dumps Dale because of his lack of motivation and a marijuana addiction. However, not one to let a breakup go unresolved, Dale then predicts the inevitable demise and subsequent aftermath of their relationship in an equally funny manner, including her going to college and becoming addicted to The Shins and Godspeed - oh, and becoming a lesbian.

#4: Robbie Hart & Linda
“The Wedding Singer” (1998)

Being dumped at the altar is not typically a laughing matter, but the scene that follows Linda coming to apologize to Robbie for standing him up definitely offers up more than a slight chuckle. In this Adam Sandler rom-com, Robbie lets Linda know that he didn’t appreciate her runaway bride act, and his little nephew also adds in his two cents along with a perfectly delivered five letter word - both of which are guaranteed comedy.

#3: Ricky Bobby & Carly Bobby
“Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby” (2006)

A breakup can bring tears to everyone involved, or not. Ricky Bobby comes home after being away for three hours only to discover his wife is divorcing him for his best friend, the family portrait above the fireplace has a received a photo shop fail update, and his kids are happily involved in a family game night with their soon-to-be new dad. In short, Carly lets Ricky Bobby know she has moved on to greener pastures. The kids chanting excitedly about having two Christmases is just the icing on the splitsville cake.

#2: Elle Woods & Warner Huntington III
