He’s one of the most stylish celebrities on any continent. Welcome to MsMojo and today we’re counting down our picks for the Top 10 Iconic David Beckham Looks.
For this list, we’re looking at David Beckham’s most memorable outfits and appearances.
#10: Navy Suit & Two-Tone Shirt
Arrival of the Olympic Flame in the UK (2012)
Since he’s one of the most iconic athletes ever to come out of Great Britain, it was appropriate that Beckham was chosen to help kick off the Olympic torch’s journey around the country leading up to the London 2012 Opening Ceremonies. Stepping off a special flight with Britain’s Princess Anne at the RNAS Culdrose in Cornwall, Becks managed to outshine the Olympic flame. He wore a tailored navy blue suit with a two-toned shirt underneath, featuring a white collar. His signature hairstyle and scruffy beard added a personal touch and his neck tattoos poking out added some edge to the look.
#9: Gray Striped Suit
‘Welcome to LA’ Party (2007)
It was big news when Posh and Becks moved their brood across the pond from Europe to California so David could play for the LA Galaxy. To welcome them to the neighborhood, Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes hosted a star-studded party in their honor at the Museum of Contemporary Art in July 2007. True to the trends of the time, Beckham’s subtly striped suit had a bit of a looser fit and boxier cut than we’re used to seeing on him. But his buzzed hair and sun-kissed glow gave him a youthful appearance that never goes out of style.
#8: Gray Three-Piece Suit with Mohawk
2010 FIFA World Cup Final Draw (2009)
David Beckham is an elite athlete: in fact, he was the first Brit to score a goal in three consecutive World Cup competitions. As a result, his name is synonymous with England’s national team, so it was only fitting that he attended the 2010 World Cup Final Draw in Cape Town, South Africa. And he dressed for the occasion, wearing a subtly printed plaid suit with coordinating vest, on top of a two-toned shirt with a sharp white collar. In terms of hairstyle, Beckham alternates between a subtler faux-hawk and a full-on mohawk, but at this event he was sporting the real deal.
#7: Sport Coat & Trousers by Ralph Lauren
Wimbledon Championships (2014)
The guest dress code for spectators at Wimbledon isn’t nearly as strict as it is for players, but guests always want to look their best. For the Gentlemen’s Singles 3rd round match between Mikhail Kukushkin and Rafael Nadal on June 28th, 2014, Beckham was seated with All-England Club Chairman Philip Brook, appropriately dressed head-to-toe in Ralph Lauren. His mustard-colored Polo Ralph Lauren sport coat was contrasted by simpler dark trousers and a crisp white shirt and pocket square, while his classically patterned tie added even more visual interest to the ensemble.
#6: Morning Suit by Ralph Lauren
The Royal Wedding of Prince William & Catherine Middleton (2011)
All eyes may’ve been on the future Duchess of Cambridge, but David Beckham is not one to be outshone – even by the most famous bride in recent history. For many, this was the fashion event of the decade and Beckham proved he was fashion royalty by donning a chic Ralph Lauren morning suit – accessorized by his Order of the British Empire medal, which he unfortunately pinned to the wrong lapel! We never actually saw him wearing his top hat, as he carried it in his hand for most of the day. We’ll just assume he didn’t want to muss his perfectly coiffed hair!
#5: Midnight Blue Tuxedo
68th British Academy Film Awards (2015)
Beckham was charged with presenting one of the most important awards of the night at the 2015 BAFTA ceremony: he bestowed the honor for Outstanding British Film upon the cast and crew of “The Theory of Everything.” Marking the first time he’d attended the awards show, Beckham clearly wanted to make an impression on the red carpet: the tux he wore for the occasion was a deep blue shade, with contrasting black bowtie and lapels. Becks wowed viewers and fashion critics alike in his crisp and dapper ensemble, the same way he had at the 2014 Met Gala when he donned a similarly dramatic white suit jacket.
#4: Brown Coat & Ripped Jeans
‘Police’ Sunglasses Launch (2002)
By “Iconic David Beckham Looks,” we mean memorable, and this outfit sure is memorable. With the benefit of hindsight, we can say that, in the early aughts, men’s fashion was a little more experimental than it is today. And Beckham looks about ready to audition for a boy band in these shots, wearing a long distressed leather coat with a classic white tee, faded denim and just the right amount of stubble. In London to promote a range of sunglasses by ‘Police,’ his gradient shades completed the look.
#3: All-White Tux by Dolce & Gabbana
12th Annual MTV Movie Awards (2003)
Not long after they got together, Posh and Becks became known for their flawlessly coordinated outfits. For the 2003 MTV Movie Awards, head-to-toe white was the theme. Both parties wore Dolce & Gabbana for the LA awards show, with Victoria’s lace-up dress becoming iconic itself. As for David, his white-hot tux with contrasting satin lapels was dressed down a bit thanks to a low-key t-shirt underneath, and accessorized with some seriously chunky bling. And as you know, Beckham’s hair is his crowning glory, and to this event the fashion icon wore it up in a ponytail.
#2: Leather Jacket, Jeans & Long Hair
Book Signing for Autobiography “My Side” (2003)
Whether he’s formal or casual, Becks always manages to look put together. The football star and underwear model was signing copies of his recently released autobiography “My Side” at a Waterstone’s Bookshop in Piccadilly, London in 2003 wearing a classic dressed down look: he looked laidback in a leather jacket, plain white tee and grey denim. With his shoulder-length blond hair, Beckham looked like he was channeling Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain – and it totally worked for him.
#1: Black Leather Outfit by Versace
‘Versace Club’ Gala Party (1999)
As we mentioned, this celebrity super-couple has been known to coordinate their outfits. In June 1999, less than a month before they tied the knot, they must’ve been feeling particularly close, because they went all-in on their matching attire. At a party hosted by Italian fashion house Versace, Posh and Becks appeared in matching leather jumpsuits, designed by the party’s host. Although Beckham has since revealed that the memory of these Versace ensembles makes him cringe, he also says they’ve still got the iconic ensembles! Cringe-worthy or not, this helped put David Beckham on the fashion map.
