#10: “Amsterdam”
Night Visions (2012)
Despite the up-tempo beat, this track symbolizes a slow march into the darkness. It’s no surprise that someone might apologize before a trip to Amsterdam, but in this case, the lyrics convey someone unlucky in love and desperate for a reawakening. Mother, brother AND lover are all personally addressed, as the uplifting chorus offers a glimmer of light. Released as a promotional single for their debut album, the track has become a fan favorite ever since first appearing on the band’s 2011 It’s Time EP.
#9: “Gold”
Smoke + Mirrors (2015)
You know what? Success can be a real pain in the ass. With lyrics expressing the downside of fame and big bucks, “Gold” reminds that rock stars and celebrities have problems too. You can seemingly have it all, but as reality becomes blurred, it becomes easy to take life’s pleasures for granted. In the appropriately colored music video, Imagine Dragons rock out in a claustrophobic room of blinding lights and fall under the spell of the almighty bling. Given the hypnotic tone, “Gold” takes on an even more powerful effect during live shows.
#8: “Bleeding Out”
Night Visions (2012)
Here’s a deeply intense song about the giving your all in a relationship and accepting all the pain that comes with it. Lyrically, “Bleeding Out” reminds one of the great romantic poets, as they too were obsessively passionate and willing to do anything in the name of love. While the lyrics may initially frighten your loved ones, they’ll hopefully understand the deeper meaning behind this great Imagine Dragons tune. A perfect example of the band’s use of the bass drum, the track is no doubt one of the band’s most personal moments.
#7: “Shots”
Smoke + Mirrors (2015)
Imagine Dragons embraced the 80s with this synthesizer-heavy track and performed it live at the 2015 Grammy Awards. The song deals with an individual seemingly born to destroy everything good in their life but smart enough to frantically apologize with hopes of repairing a broken relationship. With vocals that are light, and guitar reminiscent of U2, it’s no wonder the band chose this track to be the third single off of their hugely popular sophomore album Smoke + Mirrors.
#6: “Round and Round”
Night Visions (Deluxe) (2012)
Imagine Dragons shocked the universe with a change of sound on this fan favorite track. Featuring some soft acoustic guitars, and atmospheric instrumentation, the song first appeared on the band’s major label debut EP Continued Silence. The song saw a wider release after being included on the deluxe edition of the band’s multi-platinum selling debut album Night Visions. With lyrics discussing being true to yourself and not worrying about being down, Imagine Dragons continue to prove that they are serious players in the indie rock scene.
#5: ”I Bet My Life”
Smoke + Mirrors (2015)
Written as an ode to lead singer Dan Reynolds' parents, this song has universal appeal and can be applied to any relationship. Musically, Imagine Dragons took a folky approach with “I Bet My Life,” which paid off for the band as the song received platinum certification and landed them a series of commercials. Actor Dane DeHaan starred in the music video produced by Big Momma Nature, while the song received enormous critical acclaim including “Song of the Week” from USA Today. “I Bet My Life” was the lead single from the band’s second album and instantly became a pop anthem.
#4: “On Top of the World”
Night Visions (2012)
An inspirational jam, this Imagine Dragons song detailed the arduous road to success and the feeling of pure ecstasy upon arrival. Incidentally, “On Top of the World” also promotes an open dialogue with loved ones about staying true to your dreams, even if you fall down a couple times along the way. The music video parodied the idea that director Stanley Kubrick actually faked the 1969 Apollo moon landing, while the song has been adopted by the NBA, EA Sports and even Hollywood studios.
#3: “It’s Time”
Night Visions (2012)
As the first Imagine Dragons single to crack the Billboard Top 10, this song of self-appreciation was unleashed to the masses after appearing on the FOX hit “Glee” along with The CW’s “Gossip Girl.” Lyrically, the tune breaks down someone dealing with adversity but unwilling to change the essence of who they are. With a shout out to their native Las Vegas, Imagine Dragons announced their arrival on the scene, and the world welcomed them with open arms. “It’s Time” became an international phenomenon as the song charted highly in Japan, Portugal, and everywhere in between.
#2: “Demons”
Night Visions (2012)
The possibility of a new relationship incites plenty of emotions, one of them being fear. After all, everybody deal with their own personal demons and we often feel like who we are isn’t good enough. Imagine Dragons addressed such feelings with their universal smash “Demons,” as frontman Dan Reynolds sings about all the negative attributes that prevent us from becoming the best we can be. The music video features live performance footage while showing clips of individuals suffering from their own inner demons. This pop ballad has become one of the band’s most popular of all time, all while reaching the hearts of millions.
Before we unveil our top pick, here are a few honorable mentions.
“Warriors”

Furthermore, the apocalyptic production holds the record for most weeks on the Billboard Hot 100 charts. With a theme of reawakening, “Radioactive” can be applied to daily life, whether you’re waking up for the day, planning something big or attempting to move on from the past. The fusion of rock and dub step produced a futuristic sound, which earned the band critical acclaim and endless radio airplay.
