#10: Ai & Rika vs. Stalker
“Wonder Egg Priority” (2021)
As the manifestations of trauma, Wonder Killers can take on all shapes and sizes, and it’s up to Ai and her crew to wipe them out so the spirits of the fallen can find peace. Easier said than done when what was once a deranged stalker becomes a giant fitted with killer tendrils for hair. Despite the size difference, Ai and Rika are still able to win the day thanks to a little encouragement, and one hell of a left swing. Those weapons of theirs may look ridiculous but at least they get the job done!
#9: Kabane & Nobimaru vs. Yui
“Kemono Jihen” (2021)
Who would win in a fight? A boy who can’t die or an edgelord with ice powers? After taking his brother captive, Yui starts to draw way too much attention to himself and risks the existence of Kemono being exposed to the world. Hence why the undead Kabane and the mischievous fire fox Nobimaru team up to bring their friend back, but not before beating the ever-loving crap out of their dangerously moronic older brother. Yui may have zero chill, but Kabane’s the one with flaming punches!
#8: Garfiel vs. Elsa
“Re:Zero – Starting Life in Another World” (2016-21)
It may have taken a while, but after endless loops, Subaru was finally able to secure himself an ally in the infamous beast boy Garfiel. Pretty handy to have on the team when you’re storming into a flaming mansion with a guts-obsessed assassin waiting in the wings. However, compared to all the other times that Elsa shredded her prey, Garfiel has the stones and the skills to hold out against her. It’s a brutal and bloody exchange, but it turns out that not even Elsa’s thirst for abuse can save her from getting squashed.
#7: Diva & Matsumoto vs. Kakitani & Antonio
“Vivy: Fluorite Eye's Song” (2021)
Between trying to save humanity from an A.I uprising and making it as a songstress, it’s a wonder that Diva even has a chance to breathe. Following on from her traumatic experience on the Metal Float, the Vivy we once knew has been replaced by a much cockier persona, but that doesn’t mean her mission is over. Caught between the psychotic A.I Antonio and her human-turned-cyborg nemesis Kakitani, Diva once again teams up her cube-shaped partner from the future, where the two proceed to unleash a combo of fast flurries and instantaneous hacking. Even after decades apart and a personality transplant, these two are unstoppable.
#6: Geld vs. Shogo
“That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime” (2018-)
Revenge is sweet. Or horrifyingly painful if you happen to be the unlucky soul caught on the end of a pig man’s fists of doom. In retaliation for the attack on Tempest, Rimuru and his crew set out to get some much-deserved vengeance, with Geld taking on the cocky Otherworlder. While he’s stocked with an impressive strength and ability to regenerate, Shogo is nonetheless reduced to a punching back for the Orc to wail on again and again. Turns out being unable to die has a few drawbacks when your insides are being turned to mulch. But hey, he definitely deserved it.
#5: Attack Titan vs. War Hammer Titan
“Attack on Titan” (2013-)
With Marley declaring war on the island of Paradis, Eren decides to answer their call to arms in a swift fashion, and in doing so not only slaughters their military, but earns the wrath of the War Hammer Titan. With its ability to construct weapons out of its own body, the vengeful Tybur certainly keeps Eren on the ropes, ripping his body apart with her arsenal. However, it turns out that age hasn’t only made Eren more cynical, but craftier, since he not only outlasts the War Hammer thanks to his frequent transformations, but figures out a way to shatter her vessel. In the messiest way imaginable, of course.
#4: Kawaki vs. Garou
“Boruto: Naruto Next Generations” (2017-)
Goes to show you just how much harder canon content hints! Taking on the rather disgruntled outer member of Kara he once disfigured, Kawaki displays why he’s a force to be feared. With both fully utilising their science weapon bodies to the limit, we’re treated to quite possibly one of the best fights the series has given us since Momoshiki. The physical exchanges and use of armaments keep the battle fresh and fast-paced, upping the brutality tenfold as we see Kawaki bury his quarry.
#3: Dai vs. Baran
“Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai” (2020-)
It’s a clash between father and son, both of whom happen to be Dragon Knights with a serious amount of power to their name. After recovering his memories following Popp’s sacrifice, Dai throws down with his old man, now able to fully utilise the Dragon Crest upon shifting it to his fist. It’s not an easy win by any means, especially on account of Baran’s Dragonoid form able to send him hurtling through mountains. The odd bit of CGI may be a little on the distracting side, but the emotional weight of this fight still puts it at the pinnacle.
#2: Asta & Yami vs. Dante
“Black Clover” (2017-)
With his magic combined with that of the devil, the leader of the Dark Triad proved himself to be a beast that took even someone like Yami to task. While he put up a valiant effort, the chain-smoking swordsman ultimately fails to bring down the Spade Kingdom’s resident tyrant. No worries though, since it paved the way for one the series’ most defining moment; Yami passing his sword to Asta and entrusting him to finish the fight. Watching Asta using his mentor’s blade while channelling his own inner devil is peak shounen, and we are here for it!
#1: Yuji & Todo vs. Hanami
“Jujutsu Kaisen” (2020-21)
Exorcizing a curse has never been more badass. With Jujutsu Tech under assault from one of Mahito’s most powerful allies, the sorcerers are soon overrun. That is, until Yuji and his best friend arrive on the scene. Combining incredible action and apex bromance, Yuji and Todo seamlessly blend together an onslaught of incredible hand to hand combat along with their own signature curse techniques to bring down the plant-based monstrosity. The movie-level quality of them battling up demonic tree-roots is a perfect example of why this series has become a dominant force in the industry.
