You may not see them often, but they sure make a splash when they do. Join http://www.watchmojo.com as we countdown our picks for the Top 10 Interesting NPC's

For this list, we decided to rank the characters that just give us a glimpse of joy, help, hilarity or mystery before disappearing once again. Just so we're clear, we're not looking for villains and enemies, as well as sidekicks and teammates, as all those characters are for lists of their own. We are allowing for characters who become playable in later installments, so long as it's not in the game in question. Also the usual rule applies, one per franchise.

Special Thanks to our users "Jack Morris" "SuperSaiyun" "Michael Cooperman" & "Marlon Jacques" for suggesting this topic on our suggest page WatchMojo.comsuggest

The 10 WEIRDEST NPCs in Zelda Games

You may not see them often, but they sure make a splash when they do. Welcome to WatchMojo.com and today we are counting down our Top 10 Interesting NPCs or Non-Playable Characters. For this list, we decided to rank the characters that just give us a glimpse of joy, help, hilarity or mystery before disappearing once again. Just so we’re clear, we’re not looking for villains and enemies, as well as sidekicks and teammates, as all those characters are for lists of their own. We are allowing for characters who become playable in later installments, so long as it's not in the game in question. Also the usual rule applies, one per franchise.

#10: The Merchant "Resident Evil 4" (2005)

Also in:

10 Times Leon Was A Badass In Resident Evil Games

You definitely want to restock with him. Simply known as "The Merchant", he is the player's main source for weapons, items, and upgrades. Sporting a dark trench coat and looking like someone selling something shady in a back alley, he reveals himself to Leon S. Kennedy after he has been captured and awakens in the valley. He allows you access to the powerful weapons and upgrades, and also seems to mysteriously appear whenever you need him most.

#9: Tom Nook "Animal Crossing" series (2001-)

Also in:

Top 10 Worst NPCs in Video Games

Another shopkeeper for the list, this anthropomorphic raccoon runs the town shop in every town in the Animal Crossing world. In the first game on the Gamecube, he takes the player and employs him in his store so he can pay off of debts for his first house. Unfortunately that debt never disappears, as Nook always finds something to charge you for, like some mafia boss. He tones down his shady practices in later games … but we still don’t trust him.

#8: Happy Mask Salesman "The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask" (2000)

Also in:

We Happy Few Video Review - MojoPlays

Who is the Happy Mask Salesman? No one really knows. Appearing as just a common collector of masks, the Happy Mask Salesman recruits Link to recover a powerful mask that was stolen from him. He is often unpredictable due to his erratic behavior, frequently changing expressions in jump cuts annndd … (Show Happy Mask Salesman shaking Link) I’m pretty sure that counts as Child Abuse Buddy. While he does originally appear in Ocarina of Time, his role in Majora's Mask was definitely more memorable, when you’ve met a terrible fate.

#7: Rodin "Bayonetta" series (2010-)

A Weapon smith, bartender, Santa Claus Cosplayer, and owner of the Gates of Hell? Yep that’s Rodin. The bad ass fallen angel that creates weapons out of demons, Rodin is responsible for forging Bayonetta's sets of pistols Love is Blue and Scarborough Fair. He will craft new weapons for the player as long as you trade him the halos of dead angels. Though as a final unlock, if you have 10 million halo’s you can choose to fight his angelic form as a secret boss in both games. Best be prepared as he is very very hard.

#6: Harold "Fallout series" (1997-)

Originally a human living in Vault 29, Harold was exposed to the Forced Evolution Virus early in his life and turned into a ghoul with a tree growing on his head. By the time you run into him again in Fallout 3, that tree has outgrown him. Though undeniably tragic, he’s still a kind and helpful soul, even if he isn’t too mobile. In the 3rd game, while performing his quest lines you can either destroy his heart to grant him his final wish, or make him grow faster. Just don’t light him on fire.

#5: Sheogorath "The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion” (2006-)

Want to learn how to be a tad insane? Just ask this guy. Sheogorath is the Daedric Prince of Madness, ruling over the realm known as the Shivering Isles. Incorporating both the fun and colorful side as well as the dark and disturbed side of insanity, Sheogorath a NPC trapped in his own hell. He also makes an appearance in Skyrim, still as insane as he was before. But hey, he does give you the wabajack!

#4: Jeff “Joker” Moreau "Mass Effect" series (2007-13)

If you are going to command a spaceship like the SSV Normandy, you are going to need a serious pilot right? That's where Joker comes in. An expert pilot, especially behind the wheel of the Normandy, Joker suffers from Vrolik Syndrome which gives him brittle bones and hinders his movement. Voiced by Seth Green, Joker is the perfect balance of nerdy sarcasm and heartfelt friendship. He also finally gets his due when he hooks up with EDI in the 3rd game, though we’re not quite sure how that works. But, for that matter, neither is he.

#3: Granny Rags "Dishonored" (2012)

Actress Susan Sarandon voices Vera Moray, better known as Granny Rags. Initially, she seems to be just your average fallen aristocrat that became homeless and went insane. The catch? She practices black magic and has powers just like the player. Originally appearing as just a frail old woman in need of protecting, she it is later revealed that she is partially immortal and that she sacrifices other citizens to the all powerful Outsider. Whether or not you choose to help her is entirely up to you.

#2: Tiny Tina "Borderlands 2" (2012)

If you need something to go boom, call Tiny Tina. Tina is the teenage demolitions expert of the mysterious group known as the Vault Hunters. While she doesn't have a huge roll in the game itself, she was popular enough to be fleshed out in the DLC, even acting as the narrator for the events in Tiny Tina's Assault on Dragon Keep. We considered giving Scooter this spot, but Tina would probably send us exploding bunny rabbits if we did. Before we reveal our first choice, take a look at our honorable mentions. Cranky Kong "Donkey Kong Country" series (1994-1999, 2010-) Johnny Gat "Saints Row" series (2006-2013) Mr. Saturn "Earthbound" series (1989-2006)

#1: Murray the Demonic Skull "Monkey Island" series (1990-2010)

Definitely the most peculiar entry on list, Murray is a possessed skull that was blown up by Guybrush while assaulting Elaine’s Fort. He brings some of the best dialogue in the series thanks to his current predicament of a disembodied skull who’s still hell bent on world domination. Still you can’t help but fell sorry for him, after all he certainly speaks his mind about his demonic fantasies, even when he’s stuck in Guybrush’s coat. Do you agree with our list?
