Top 10 It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia Moments

Top 10 It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia Moments
VOICE OVER: Rebecca Brayton
Script written by Nathan Sharp.

This gang is made up of a bunch of despicable human beings, but we can't help but love them. Join http://www.WatchMojo.com as we count down our picks for the top 10 “It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia” moments. For this list, we're looking at those times from this sitcom that either had us laughing until our sides hurt, shocked us that they'd go that far, or a combination of the two. You can't really distinguish between these two feelings when it comes to this show, but honestly, does that even matter?

Special thanks to our users Jacob Witterholt, somewheresomethingso, RichardFB, Mehdi Ouabbou and MikeMJPMUNCH for submitting the idea on our Suggestion Tool at http://www.WatchMojo.comsuggest

#10: Gail the Snail
“The Gang Gives Frank an Intervention”

Poor Gail the Snail. Played by comedian Mary Lynn Rajskub (ryescub), Gail the Snail is a prospective sex partner for Frank, as well as a past torture victim of Dennis and Dee, who threw her into the dryer when they were kids. However, Gail is not the most attractive individual, due to her skin problems and constant slurping noises. We can’t help but laugh at her misfortune and her eating sounds though, as well as her giving Frank a “handy” under the table. Charlie throwing salt on her at the end of the episode is just icing on the cake.

#9: I Browned Out
“Who Got Dee Pregnant?”

In this episode, the gang tries to figure out who got Dee pregnant. However, as Mac explains, he doesn’t remember much of the night because he “browned out.” What is “browning out,” you may ask? According to Mac, it’s when you get very drunk, but still remember pieces of the night. It’s a ridiculous concept, but that’s why it’s so funny. It’s made even funnier when the gang tries incorporating it into their conversation, knowing that the phrase will never catch on. Poor Mac. He tries.

#8: Frank in the Sofa
“A Very Sunny Christmas”

Frank can be downright disgusting at times, and this scene highlights that perfectly. While trying to eavesdrop on some workers down-talking him, Frank hides in a nearby couch. It’s every bit as ridiculous as it sounds, and the clear Frank outline in the couch brings some good laughs. However, it’s the moment when the couch practically births Frank that gets the heaviest laughs. While it’s pretty repulsive seeing a nude Frank emerge from the couch and crawl around like an infant, complete with his hacking coughs, it’s also hilarious in an “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” kind of way.

#7: Kitten Mittens
“Paddy’s Pub: Home of the Original Kitten Mittens”

Leave it to Charlie to create a commercial in good faith, but have it be completely horrible and inappropriate. As Charlie tries (with a hilariously high-pitched voice) to sell his invention of mittens for cats, we watch as he creates a typical low budget ad, but with some “Sunny” twists. These include calling the viewer stupid, watching in glee as a cat stumbles off a table, and staring seductively into the camera while saying “meow.” It’s hilariously bad and inappropriate, but that’s why we love it.

#6: The Implication
“The Gang Buys a Boat”

While Charlie at least tries to be normal, Dennis is just a straight up creep. In this scene, that creepiness is on full display as he explains to Mac that women will have sex with him on the boat they’ve bought because of the fear that he will rape them if they decline. While Mac tries to explain how creepy this is, it’s also pretty funny watching Dennis not realize just how dark he is being. The hilarity comes from both Dennis’s insistence that he’s being totally reasonable and Mac’s clear feelings of discomfort.

#5: The Long Take
“Charlie Work”

While not as funny as other moments, this moment is impressive on a purely technical level. Inspired by a long shot in HBO’s “True Detective”, we follow Charlie as he tries making the bar presentable for the health inspector. It’s quite striking to see the coordination and planning behind this uninterrupted take, and to watch Charlie Day stay in character for so long without breaking. Quite ambitious for a television comedy!

#4: Pepe Silvia
“Sweet Dee Has a Heart Attack”

In this episode, Charlie goes full-on crazy after getting a job in the mailroom at an office in order to get health insurance. Hopped up on caffeine and who knows what else, Charlie thinks he discovers a plot regarding people who don’t actually work at the office. His manic energy and mile-a-minute speech is a blast to watch, and actor Charlie Day knocks it out of the park with his performance, but that’s to be expected!

#3: Wild Card, Bitches!
“The Gang Solves the Gas Crisis”

In this meta episode, the gang buys gas and hopes to sell it in the future for a profit, but more importantly, they have to figure out who fits what TV stereotype. As Charlie is assigned the wild card, he dresses as an oil tycoon, speaks with a Southern accent, and cuts the brakes of the van. Charlie’s outfit is certainly funny, but it’s his giant “yeehaw” and subsequent jumping out of the van that make this scene so crazy. What happens next ends the episode on a dark but hilarious note. Wild card, indeed!

#2. The D.E.N.N.I.S. System
“The D.E.N.N.I.S. System”

If you didn’t think Dennis was a total sociopath already, you will after seeing the D.E.N.N.I.S. system in action. The system shows Dennis at perhaps his cruelest, including prank-calling women and threatening their lives, and slashing their tires in order to create what he calls “dependence”. What it actually is is just pure sociopathic behavior, but that’s why Dennis and this scene are so funny and cringe-worthy to watch. It’s made even funnier when Dee calls him out on it, because if Dee says you’re acting harshly, you must be really messed up.

Before we unveil our number one pick, here are a few honorable mentions.
- Rum Ham
“The Gang Goes to the Jersey Shore”
- Dancing Green Man
“The Gang Gets Invincible”
- Drunk Charlie Referees
“The Gang Gives Back”
- Joke’s on Dee
“The Gang Broke Dee”
- Good Morning, Juarez Family!
“The Gang Gets Extreme: Home Makeover Edition”

#1: Dennis and Charlie Write ‘Dayman’
“Sweet Dee’s Dating a Retarded Person”

This scene shows Dennis and Charlie at their friendliest, combining their creativity to create the famous “Dayman” song. While seeing Charlie high on spray paint and hiding away in his darkened apartment like a hermit is funny, the song itself makes the scene that much funnier. Dennis is gleefully happy about the song’s creation, and their little dance at the end caps the moment off on a perfectly hilarious note. While it seemed like a one-off creation, the song would return in the form of the infamous “The Nightman Cometh” rock opera in the show’s next season.
