Top 10 Most Amazing Celebrity Apartments
#10: Tommy Hilfiger’s Plaza Penthouse
Back in 2017, fashion designer Tommy Hilfiger put his NYC Plaza penthouse up on the market. The twelve-room apartment has a cool view of Fifth Avenue and Central Park, and the decor is as lavish and eccentric as you might expect from the family home of a fashion icon. There are two outside terraces - to capitalize on that view - and more than one gigantic walk-in closet. Every room has its own style. However, the apartment’s stand-out feature has to be its domed tower room. To decorate this unique space, Hilfiger commissioned a mural by Hilary Knight, illustrator of the “Eloise” books. If you were wondering, the room was mainly used for tea time and occasionally, pizza.
#9: Shonda Rhimes’ Upper-East Side Apartment
They say life imitates art, and it definitely feels like Shonda Rhimes’s work may be influencing her decorating style. The “Bridgerton” creator called in interior designer Michael S. Smith to help her design this lush, romantic space. Smith, who formerly designed the interiors of the White House, took inspiration from different eras and cultures to create something colorful and classy. The regal furnishings lend themselves nicely to the old-fashioned, Upper-East Side New York vibe. Meanwhile, the vibrant wallpaper and modern pieces make it feel fresh. Rhimes keeps it homey with her favorite art, creative nooks, and a bright, cozy kitchen.
#8: Michael Kors’ Greenwich Village Penthouse
“Space and light are the greatest luxuries in New York,” says fashion designer Michael Kors. His penthouse apartment, which he shares with his husband, has plenty of both. There’s a glorious terrace overlooking the city, floor-to-ceiling windows and a spacious bathroom with a river view. He can even stare at that skyline from his personal gym. From the decor to the clothes in the gigantic walk-in wardrobe, the color palette is surprisingly minimalist. Additionally, every table decoration and art piece appears to have been chosen with love, gifted by a friend, or picked up on the designer’s travels.
#7: Taylor Swift’s Multi-Unit Compound in Tribeca
To create her sprawling New York penthouse, Taylor Swift has been gradually buying up multiple units of a building in the Tribeca neighborhood. The historic cobblestone block has a different feel from the ultra-modern and minimalist pads we often associate with celebrities. From snapshots of the singer’s home shared on social media, it seems Swift has kept the building’s classic aesthetic while also infusing it with her own personality. And of course, filling it with her friends and her cats. The home has exposed wooden beams and brick walls, lofty ceilings, wood-paneling, board floors and roaring log fires. Perks also include a cinema room, and a billiards room.
#6: Jennifer Lopez’s New York City Penthouse
In 2017, J-Lo put her New York City home up on the market, and it’s everything you’d imagine from the glamorous star. Located in a Georgian-style mansion overlooking Madison Square Park, the penthouse has four grand terraces. The 3,000 square feet of outdoor space includes stunning views of the park and the city skyline. There are oak floors, white marble bathrooms, and an extravagant chef’s kitchen. There’s also plenty of space for entertaining, including a putting green and a croquet pitch. Thanks to the high-arched windows and lofty ceilings, the interiors are bright and spacious, all furnished with interesting and modern pieces.
#5: Meryl Streep’s Tribeca Loft
It might not have the wow factor of some flashier celeb apartments, but Meryl’s Streep’s former loft in Tribeca has a real homey vibe. With lots of natural light, cozy furnishings, a free-standing log fire, and plenty of art and greenery, it could almost be a home in a Nancy Meyers movie. There are tons of jaw dropping features too. The penthouse includes ensuite bathrooms off all the main bedrooms and a wrap-around terrace with fabulous views of the Statue of Liberty and the Empire State Building. On selling the apartment, Streep said: “I have gardened under the stars on hot days, and sat by the cozy fire while the snow piled up on the terrace. This has been a great home for us.”
#4: Jennifer Lawrence’s Manhattan Penthouse
This penthouse in the bustling center of Manhattan once belonged to actress Jennifer Lawrence - and it's all about the views. All around the apartment large windows look out onto New York’s magnificent skyline and fill the high-ceilinged rooms with light. The decor is pretty minimal, but with views like that, you’re not going to spend much time looking at the interiors. There’s plenty of communal dining space and also a games room but, when it comes to entertaining, we expect the real parties to happen outside. The roof terrace is probably the penthouse’s biggest selling point. There are spaces in which to sunbathe and watch TV, as well as a rooftop kitchen area and grill with a dining space overlooking the city.
#3: Sting’s Manhattan Penthouse
Gorgeous views over Central Park and the skyline, even from your bathtub? An outdoor terrace? His and hers spa bathrooms and your very own sauna? What else could you want from a New York apartment? Sting’s duplex penthouse also features a unique, free-standing fireplace and two custom designed spiral staircases. Plus, it has personality; there are pops of color about the place and books on the shelves that look like they’ve actually been read a time or two. The musician and his wife, actress and producer Trudie Styler, bought the property in 2008. It sold to a “mystery buyer” in 2017 for 50 million dollars, reportedly about double what the couple originally paid for it.
#2: Barbara Corcoran’s Fifth Avenue Penthouse
“Shark Tank” investor Barbara Corcoran got her first glimpse of her future apartment in the early ‘90s, when delivering a package there. Twenty-six years later, she bought the property for 10 million dollars and started renovating. For many of us, the kitchen is the heart of the home, and that’s certainly the case for Corcoran. Beginning its life as a green-house, this stunning space is filled with vintage touches and includes epic vistas over Central Park. As well as four bedrooms, seven bathrooms, a living room and a cozy library, the apartment also has an outdoor terrace, to take full advantage of that view.

#1: Bette Midler’s Upper-East Side Penthouse
It’s a palatial piece of real-estate worth 50 million dollars, but Bette Midler’s Fifth Avenue apartment still exudes the vibe of a lived-in, cozy family home. The bedrooms are on the penthouse’s first floor, while upstairs, the living room opens onto an outdoor terrace, with views of the city skyline and Central Park reservoir. There’s more outdoor space off the kitchen and the entire top floor has been converted into a library with a roaring fireplace, walls of books, and an attached rooftop garden. Not all the decor is up to date, but the overall effect is grand, classy, and really gorgeous.
