#10: “The Fall of the House of Usher”

Honestly, it’s a wonder Netflix hasn’t tried to adapt more of Edgar Allan Poe’s iconic repertoire of spooky stories. They’re the perfect fodder for some binge-worthy fright fests, especially in the hands of hit-maker Mike Flanagan. He’s been the creative voice behind some of the service’s biggest horror hits to date such as “The Haunting of Hill House,” “The Haunting of Bly Manor,” “The Midnight Club”, and “Midnight Mass.” His track record pretty much speaks for itself. Giving him the chance to turn “The Fall of the House of Usher,” of the greatest horror stories ever written, will surely lead to a spine-tingling good time.

#9: “Beverly Hills Cop: Axel Foley”

This famed California city just hasn’t been the same without Eddie Murphy patrolling the streets. So, it’ll be a welcome treat to see him pick up his badge and his signature varsity jacket for another round. While the original film’s tone still completely holds up, rumored plot details for the long-awaited fourth installment imply it’s not ignoring the modern political climate. That’s a good move in our book, since tackling corruption feels like the natural evolution of the series’ formula. It’s been decades since Axel last dusted off his car, but if the new film can emulate even half of the original’s charm, it’ll be well worth the wait.

#8: “The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar”

Most of the time, live-action adaptations of beloved children’s books are to be approached with caution. But, based solely on the reputation of its cast and crew, this story will almost certainly live up to its name. Roald Dahl’s eclectic tales are a perfect match for writer-director Wes Anderson, who’s made a name for himself with quirky films like “Isle of Dogs” and “The French Dispatch.” With acclaimed source material and a fantastic cast made up of Benedict Cumberbatch, Ralph Fiennes, and more, the Oscar nominee has plenty to work with here. At this point, it’d be more surprising if this film doesn’t turn out great.

#7: “The Pale Blue Eye”

Even if it’s just Christian Bale brooding for two hours, this film will be well worth the price of admission. Although, with the experienced crime director Scott Cooper at the helm, there’s good reason to believe it could be the streamer’s next breakout hit. It’s got a gothic mystery, a fantastic cast, and even a young Edgar Allan Poe character helping the investigator protagonist. What more does a movie need? Clearly, Netflix agrees with the hype, since it’s giving the film a limited theatrical release before dropping it on the service in early 2023. If that’s not a vote of confidence, we don’t know what is.

#6: “You” Season 4

After quite literally burning his life to the ground in season 3, Joe Goldberg decided to take his unhealthy impulses abroad. The change in scenery is sure to shake up the series’ formula. After all, Joe’s just as lost as the women he’s after now. The fourth season is slated to arrive in two blocks of episodes. But, don’t worry, it won’t be a long wait. The first batch drops February 9th, with the second coming one month later in March. Since the first few seasons ranked among the most-watched original shows in the entire United States, there’s no reason to believe the fourth will be any different.

#5: “The Killer”

Last time David Fincher directed a film for Netflix, it was widely praised and snagged ten Academy Award nominations - including two wins. Yes, we’re talking about “Mank.” So, to say there’s a high bar for the follow-up is a pretty big understatement. Thankfully, it’s off to a promising start, with a story taking inspiration from popular French comic book series “The Killer”. But, just to sweeten the deal, Netflix also threw in leading roles for Tilda Swinton and Michael Fassbender. Suffice it to say, those two could command the screen in their sleep. So, if anyone can make lightning strike twice, it’s definitely this director with this cast.

#4: “Extraction 2”

This sequel always felt more like a matter of when, not if. After all, “Extraction” is one of Netflix’s most streamed original movies ever. In hindsight, though, that shouldn’t be too surprising. A Chris Hemsworth-led action-thriller from the Russo Brothers practically sells itself. At the very least, it’s worth a ticket for a sequel, which is sure to have the same incredible action that made the first one stand out. The only thing more exciting than the return of Hemsworth’s Tyler Rake is that this could potentially be the first in a long line of “Extraction” films.

#3: “The Witcher” Season 3

Toss one last coin for Henry Cavill, who’s taking his final bow as leading man Geralt of Rivia in the third chapter of this fantasy adaptation. The big-budget series’ next season was already high on the list of hotly-anticipated releases coming to the service, but now it’s practically a must-see cultural event. It’s safe to say the Internet will be curious to see how they handle Cavill’s departure – if they address it at all. As many know by now, Liam Hemsworth will be bringing Geralt to life in the fourth season. All that casting news aside though, viewers will surely be tuning in to get their “Witcher” fantasy fix, and for good reason.

#2: “Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget”

10 Most Shocking Scenes from Robot Chicken

What started as a jog of acclaim for a classic film has turned into a decades-long marathon of fan support. Now, these chickens are finally clucking again, this time up against their most fearsome foe yet: the dreaded nugget. The concept is suitably hilarious, and there’s no doubt that actors Thandiwe Newton and Zachary Levi will master the comedic tone of the project. And if anything, this is worth checking out just to appreciate the stop-motion animation. It feels like this follow-up flick will have an abundance of love, effort, and charm fried into it. So we’re definitely excited to check it out. Before we unveil our top pick, here are a few honorable mentions.

Long ago, the four nations lived together in harmony… and then a certain live-action film ruined all that. Fans still have a bad taste in their mouth from the horrid 2010 adaptation, so there’s some trepidation surrounding this upcoming television series. It doesn’t help matters that the animated “Avatar”’s creators left the project. But if anyone has the resources to do this beloved series justice, it’s definitely Netflix. And there’s certainly a sense of excitement and anticipation that’s been building since the show was announced. The release is all but guaranteed to get people talking – here’s hoping it’s for good reasons.
